Mohamed Sabbari, First Deputy-Speaker of Morocco's House of Representatives, met on Monday in Rabat with a delegation from the Jordanian House of Representatives, led by Nimer Abdul Hamid Abdullah Al-Fuqaha Al-Abbad, Chairman of the Finance Committee.
The visit forms part of a cooperation program between the Jordanian Parliament and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, aimed at strengthening parliamentary practices, particularly in financial oversight.
Sabbari emphasized the strong ties between Morocco and Jordan, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and HM King Abdullah II, and reiterated Morocco's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation at the legislative level, according to a press release from the Moroccan Parliament.
He underscored the importance of deepening exchanges between parliamentary committees and reinforcing the work of the Morocco-Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Group. He also praised Jordan's consistent support for Morocco's territorial integrity and the autonomy plan proposed by Rabat to resolve the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
For his part, Al-Fuqaha said the visit offers an opportunity to learn from Morocco's experience in parliamentary financial oversight and voiced Jordan's interest in fostering closer institutional ties between committees and friendship groups from both parliaments.
The Jordanian delegation's visit is aimed at expanding collaboration and aligning parliamentary practices in line with the aspirations of both heads of state and the interests of the two nations' peoples, the same source added.

Marhaba 2025: Morocco Welcomes 1.5 Million Diaspora Returns

Rabat — Morocco welcomed over 1.5 million diaspora members back home by July 10, marking a significant 13.30% increase compared to the same period last year. Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita presented the figures of Moroccans living abroad (MREs) coming back to their country to the Government Council as part of his briefing on the 2025 Marhaba operation. Marhaba operation is Morocco's annual summer program that helps Moroccans living abroad return home for vacation. The numbers tell a compelling story of growing connections between Morocco and its diaspora. Along with the 1,520,951 Moroccan residents abroad (MREs) who returned, officials registered 151,411 vehicles crossing into the country — a 3.56% rise from 2024. The government has intensified its efforts to handle the influx, with the country now processing more than 67,000 Moroccan arrivals daily during peak summer season, with July 14 recording the highest single-day numbers so far. Officials expect this upward trend to continue through the coming weeks as more families complete their summer journeys home. Over the last year, Morocco has significantly boosted its transportation infrastructure to meet growing demand. The maritime plan now includes 29 ships operated by seven different companies, running across 12 routes that connect Moroccan ports with destinations in Spain, France, and Italy. These expanded sea routes can now handle 7.3 million passengers and two million vehicles — a 3% capacity increase from last year's operation. The Marhaba operation reflects Morocco's commitment to maintaining strong ties with its diaspora community, which plays a crucial role in the country's economy through remittances and investments. The program's success demonstrates the enduring bonds between Morocco and the millions of Moroccans who have built lives abroad while maintaining deep connections to their homeland. South Africa : Will Zuma's party succeed in ousting the Polisario's main ally ?

As Jacob Zuma, the founder of the UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, visits Morocco, his party has issued a call for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to resign. Last Wednesday, the MK party gave the current head of state and leader of the African National Congress (ANC) a two-day ultimatum to step down. On Friday, July 18, the MK staged a protest outside the presidential palace in Pretoria, demanding Ramaphosa's ouster. They criticized what they termed as the ANC president's «negative record» since he assumed office on February 14, 2018. This development unfolds amid escalating tensions between the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA). The latest chapter in this political showdown between the country's two leading parties occurred on Friday, July 18. In a statement, Ramaphosa's party voiced its «concerns over the disinformation campaign led by Democratic Alliance MP Emma Powell against South Africa, and her apparent attempts to undermine the South African government's response to the new U.S. tariff regime». These events echo the turbulent weeks preceding the ousting of Pedro Castillo, a former Polisario ally in Peru, in December 2022. A few months after his arrest, the new Peruvian president rescinded in September 2023 her recognition of the «SADR». In Morocco, Jacob Zuma reiterated from Rabat his support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and advocated for establishing an economic and diplomatic partnership between South Africa and the kingdom. The MK stands as the third-largest political force in South Africa.

CNDH: Morocco, Palestine Unite for Joint Human Rights Initiatives and Capacity Building

Rabat — The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Human Rights and Civil Society Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) concluded a weeklong training program in Rabat today, culminating in the signing of a cooperation protocol between the two sides. The Palestinian delegation, which included human rights and political representatives from the PLO, has been on an official visit to Morocco to strengthen ties and exchange expertise in the field of human rights. The closing session was chaired by Amina Bouayach , president of the CNDH, and Ahmad Said Al-Tamimi, head of the PLO's Human Rights and Civil Society Department. During the ceremony, the two officials formalized their commitment to continued collaboration by signing an agreement to deepen cooperation and develop joint mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights. The protocol outlines a framework for practical programs designed to build capacities, share experiences and best practices, engage with the international human rights system, and enhance documentation, monitoring, advocacy, and reporting on violations. Speaking at the event, Bouayach described the protocol as more than just a formal document, calling it 'a sincere expression of a collective will to establish sustainable cooperation and a firm commitment to advancing human rights causes.' She also acknowledged the serious challenges facing Palestinian human rights institutions, including mounting restrictions on civic space and persistent targeting of human rights defenders. These circumstances, she said, reveal the need for stronger cooperation and joint advocacy to support justice and fairness. The agreement outlines several areas of collaboration, including capacity building, exchange of information and knowledge, dialogue, and monitoring of relevant UN processes and jurisprudence. This initiative marks the first training of its kind between the Moroccan council and the Palestinian delegation and highlights Morocco's ongoing engagement with regional human rights issues, with the Palestinian cause remaining central to its human rights agenda.
