Uttarakhand CM Dhami flags off Kalash Yatra for Surya idol Jalabhishek in Kushinagar

India Gazette11-07-2025
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 11 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday flagged off the Kalash Yatra for the Jalabhishek of the idol of Lord Surya in Kushinagar district from his official residence in Dehradun.
As part of the initiative, water from around 151 sacred rivers across the country is being collected for the Jalabhishek of the Surya idol in Kushinagar. The Kalash Yatra, flagged off by the Chief Minister, includes water gathered from the holy rivers of Uttarakhand.
Mahamandaleshwar 1008 Swami Santoshanand Dev Maharaj, President of the Purvanchal Mahotsav Samiti Vinay Rai, along with other committee members, were present during the flagging-off ceremony.
Earlier on Thursday, in view of the Kanwar Yatra, the Uttarakhand government launched 'Operation Kalanemi' to take action against imposters who are hurting religious sentiments and duping people in the name of 'Sanatan Dharma'.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that many such cases have come to light in the state where anti-social elements are cheating people, especially women, by disguising themselves as seers. This, he said, is not only hurting the religious sentiments of the people, but also harming the image of social harmony and Sanatan tradition. In such a situation, if a person of any religion is found doing such acts, then strict action will be ensured against him, he added.
Chief Minister referenced the mythological asura Kalanemi stating that just like the demon had attempted to mislead by disguising himself as a saint, similarly, many 'Kalanemis' are active in society today who are committing crimes in religious guise.
Dhami further said that his government is fully committed to protecting public sentiments, the dignity of Sanatan culture and maintaining social harmony. Those who spread hypocrisy in the name of faith will not be spared under any circumstances, he said. (ANI)

. DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday increased the amount given to Param Vir Chakra awardees as ex-gratia from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.50 crore. Making the announcement on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas , Dhami said apart from this they will continue to get Rs 3 lakh as annual grant. "The borders of our country are safe due to the valor, courage and sacrifice of our brave soldiers... The state government is committed to the welfare of the soldiers and their families and is constantly taking concrete and effective decisions to protect their interests," Dhami said. It is the duty of every citizen to respect the valor, dedication and sacrifice of the soldiers, he said, describing Uttarakhand not only as Devbhoomi (land of gods), but also Veerbhoomi (land of the brave). The hike in the ex gratia paid to Param Vir Chankra awardees fulfills a promise made by Dhami to soldiers at a Sainik Samman ceremony organised in Khatima on the occasion of his father late Subedar Sher Singh Dhami's death anniversary. The chief minister also issued a separate message to salute the valor of the Indian Army and emotionally remember the sacrifice of those martyred in the Kargil war. A large number of brave sons of Uttarakhand also sacrificed their lives to protect the country in that war, he said, adding that their sacrifice will continue to inspire the new generation.

Move is appreciated: Kangana Ranaut after crackdown on OTT platforms

Bollywood actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has supported the Centre's ban on OTT platforms in the country. Speaking to ANI, the Emergency star said that the move was crucial to protect the country's young people and was issued in the public interest. 'The ban has been imposed to ensure that our culture and the minds of the youth are not corrupted. It is important to see that our society is not headed toward a complete downfall. It was awaited for a long time,' she said. Kangana also appreciated the step taken against the illegal functioning of the OTT applications. Likewise, actor Ravi Kishan has also welcomed the decision, stating that 'boundaries and limits need to be set.' According to sources, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered the blocking of 25 over-the-top (OTT) platforms over allegedly publishing obscene, vulgar, and even pornographic material. As a part of it, platforms like Ullu, ALTT, Big Shots App, NeonX VIP, and Desiflix were found disseminating content that directly violated several provisions of Indian law, including Section 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, Section 292 of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. A total of 14 mobile applications, 26 websites have been ordered to be disabled by intermediaries under provisions of the IT Act, 2000 and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Much of the content showcased on the aforementioned platforms involved graphic sexual innuendos, long sequences of nudity, and pornographic visuals. 'Game-changing': Piyush Goyal lauds India-UK FTA; calls it 'stepping stone towards dream of Viksit Bharat'

NEW DELHI: Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday hailed the newly signed free trade agreement with the United Kingdom and said that the deal was signed on India's terms. While addressing a press conference, Goyal claimed the FTA to be "important" and "game-changing," stating that 99 per cent of India's exports will be able to go to the UK duty-free. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a Free Trade Agreement. Cabinet approval has been given in India, but Parliamentary approval in the UK is pending," Goyal said. "It will be a game-changing FTA that will give immense opportunities and benefits to India's farmers, businessmen, MSME sector, youngsters, and fishermen. Out of all FTAs signed so far, the India-UK FTA has been the biggest, most comprehensive, and most important. This FTA has been signed on our terms. Ninety-nine per cent of our exports will be able to go to the UK duty-free,' he added. — ANI (@ANI) This comes after India and the UK signed a historic trade deal in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK PM Starmer. Taking a swipe at the previous UPA government, Goyal criticised its trade strategy while highlighting the Modi government's approach to FTAs. He also said that the comprehensive deal will help advance progress towards a Viksit Bharat. Goyal said, "UPA government signed FTAs with our competitors, with those countries who would sell their products in India for cheaper prices to destroy India's manufacturing sector... The FTAs signed during the UPA rule were not in the best interests of the country. FTAs signed by PM Narendra Modi are with Mauritius, Australia, EFTA countries, UAE, and now the UK." "Talks are going on with other developed countries. India now signs FTAs with countries which do not compete with us, but complement us. The UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will prove to be a stepping stone towards our dream of a Viksit Bharat," he added.
