The upcoming Census 2027 could deliver its final population figures by the end of the same year, a significant improvement over previous exercises, thanks to a digital-first approach that will use mobile apps for data collection and intelligent systems for real-time processing.Sources in the government said the time taken to publish detailed population data — including gender-wise breakups at national, state, district and taluk levels — may be compressed to just nine months from the date of enumeration. In the 2011 Census, this process had stretched over nearly two years, according to a ToI report. The government has set March 1, 2027, as the reference date for the next Census. Originally scheduled for 2020, the decadal count was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2027 Census will be conducted in two parts — a house-listing phase in 2026, followed by population enumeration in February 2027. For the first time, enumerators will be equipped with a mobile application to capture data digitally, replacing the bulky paper forms of the past.
Available in 16 languages, including Hindi, English and 14 regional options, the app is designed to be simple to use for both officials and the public. Citizens will also have the option of self-enumeration, the sources said.
The app-based format will offer dropdown menus, auto-fetching of house records, and the ability to edit entries on the spot — all of which are expected to speed up data collection and reduce manual errors. With most of the responses pre-coded and digitised, the need for manual compilation of summaries or abstracts will be eliminated. The mobile application will feed directly into back-end systems using Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) tools, which will help process even semi-structured information swiftly. For questions requiring descriptive or non-numeric responses, officials have prepared a code directory to guide enumerators in selecting standardised entries, further cutting down processing time.
To support the massive digital operation, the Office of the Registrar General of India has also built a Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal, which will help track and coordinate progress across all stages. If the process unfolds as planned, this will be the fastest turnaround yet for a Census in India — and the most technologically advanced.

Tuljabhavani temple trust denies missing ceremonial sword claim

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Shri Tuljabhavani Temple Trust on Saturday refuted allegations that the ceremonial sword used in the temple's traditional rituals was missing or stolen. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Dharashiv district collector Keerthi Kiran Pujar, who also heads the temple administration, told TOI, "The sword is safe and secure at the Wakojibuwa mutt, where it is being worshipped daily under the supervision of Mahant Tukojibuwa Guru Bajajibuwa." Shri Tulja Bhavani Bhope Pujari Mandal's president, Amar Raje Kadam, caused a stir after writing a letter to the administration claiming the sword was either missing or stolen, and demanded that efforts be made to trace it. When contacted, Kadam said, "On learning that the sword — which is hundreds of years old — was missing, we contacted the temple administration. The officials in the administration initially told us they were not aware of the matter. Later, when we raised the issue, they claimed they had kept the sword at the mutt, which is outside the temple premises and in our eyes, it is a breach of the tradition." However, the temple administration said the temple is currently undergoing several conservation and restoration works, including measures to strengthen the spiritual sanctity of the premises. As part of this initiative, a Durga Saptashati Anushthan was conducted on June 16, to enhance the spiritual energy of the temple. The ritual was led by Ganeshwar Dravid Shastri from Kashi (Varanasi) and was attended by senior priests, mahants, temple officials, and devotees. Following this ritual, the sword in question was handed over to the Mathadhipati Mahant Tukojibuwa Guru Bajajibuwa of Wakojibuwa mutt, where the daily worship practice is underway. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Reacting to the claims suggesting that the sword was stolen or missing, the temple administration said such claims are false, baseless, and misleading. The statement emphasised that the sword is not only intact but also under proper security and in regular use for rituals. "All conservation activities, including the spiritual rituals, are being conducted with full transparency and under proper guidance. The ceremonial sword remains in the custody of Mahant Tukojibuwa and is worshipped regularly at Wakojibuwa mutt," said Arvind Bhosale, administrative officer of the Tuljabhavani Temple Trust. The temple urged devotees and the general public not to believe rumours.

Katy Perry's ex takes cheeky jab at her romance buzz with Justin Trudeau: ‘Friends or not?'

Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry seemed to make an 'instant connection' over dinner and then at a concert last month. The singer's ex-fiance, Orlando Bloom, is apparently enjoying the buzz around the new rumored romance. While there is no concrete evidence to confirm Trudeau and Perry's relationship status, reports suggest that they are 'interested in each other'. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom appear at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in Beverly Hills(Evan Agostini/Invision/AP) The former Canadian prime minister and the pop star were recently seen enjoying dinner in Montreal, and Trudeau also attended her sold-out Lifetimes Tour concert at Bell Centre. PEOPLE quoted a source saying that the two had an 'instant connection', but any relationship between them is in the 'early stages'. However, soon memes targeted Katy Perry's ex, Orlando Bloom. Orlando Bloom responds to viral post Satirical outlet The Onion poked fun at Perry's romance rumors with Trudeau by pretending to set Bloom up with another former world leader - Angela Merkel. 'Orlando Bloom Spotted At Dinner With Angela Merkel,' a headline from The Onion, shared on Friday, read. The Instagram post was accompanied by what appeared to be an AI-generated image of the actor and the former Chancellor of Germany enjoying a candlelit meal together. "Just weeks after announcing his split with fiancée Katy Perry, English actor Orlando Bloom was photographed Friday dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel,' the newspaper further joked. 'Angela kept Orlando laughing all night — he couldn't keep his eyes off her!' said an insider source who spotted the pair sipping wine, slurping oysters, and splitting a decadent piece of chocolate layer cake at a Michelin-starred restaurant,' it added. Orlando Bloom was quick to react. Rather than brushing off The Onion's joke, the actor applauded, commenting '👏👏👏' on the post. Bloom did not elaborate. Last month, PEOPLE cited a source to report that Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have 'a lot in common'. 'They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes. She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common,' the source said.
