ESIC launches SPREE for registration of employers, employees
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) regional office in Vijayawada launched an awareness drive to enrol more number of employers and employees under Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees (SPREE), said ESIC in-charge regional director M. Rama Rao. Under SPREE, employers can register their factories, establishments and employees digitally through ESIC portal, Shram Suvidha and MCA portal. Registration will be considered valid from the date given by the employer, and no inspection or demand for past records will be made for the pre-registration period, said ESIC joint director Pranava Kumar, in a press release on Tuesday. At present, a total of 69,632 units/establishments have been registered in Andhra Pradesh and nearly 14 lakh employees are covered under the ESI scheme. SPREE 2025 encourages voluntary compliance by removing the fear of retrospective penalties and easing registration process. ESIC urges employees and employers to register under SPREE-2025
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation of India (ESIC) has approved the SPREE 2025 (Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees) at its 196th meeting held in Shimla under the chairmanship of Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. SPREE 2025 aims to expand social security coverage under the ESI Act by encouraging voluntary registration of unregistered employers and workers—especially contract and temporary staff—without fear of penalties or recovery of old dues. The scheme will be implemented from July 1 to December 31, 2025. Soumendra Kumar Sahu, Deputy Director-in-Charge of the ESI Corporation's Sub-Regional Office in Visakhapatnam, urged employers in North Andhra to take full advantage of the scheme. Under SPREE 2025, registration can be done digitally via the ESIC portal, Shram Suvidha, or the MCA portal. The registration will be considered valid from the date declared by the employer. No inspections or inquiries will be made regarding the pre-registration period, and no retrospective dues will be claimed. The scheme removes barriers that previously discouraged registration, such as the fear of legal action or backdated payments. It is a step towards achieving inclusive social security and regularising employment in informal sectors. Mr. Sahu emphasised that SPREE 2025 reflects ESIC's commitment to a welfare-centric labour system aligned with the goal of universal social protection.
