Boxing fans issue instant response to Tyson Fury comeback opponent
Tyson Fury has stirred up a storm among boxing fans after seemingly confirming trilogy showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.
The 'Gypsy King' has been toying with the idea of a comeback, and on Wednesday evening, almost half a year since he declared his retirement, the 36-year-old confirmed at another return to boxing.
Saudi boxing supremo, Turki Alalshikh, took to X - the platform formerly known as Twitter - to announce: "The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026...We have a rabbit to hunt!" Fury then shared this message on his own page, teasing, "Let's see what 2026 brings," accompanied by a string of dollar sign emojis and laughing faces.
Fury has mockingly referred to Usyk as 'rabbit' before their previous encounters. The Morecambe brawler now claims that the trilogy fight is set for April 18, 2026, at Wembley Stadium. On Thursday morning, Fury posted on Instagram a promotional poster featuring himself and Usyk, captioned: "April 18, 2026 Wembley Stadium. The trilogy! UK. contact @spencerbrownmrgoldstar for tickets."
Following the official announcement of the trilogy bout on Instagram, supporters were swift to voice their opinions, reports All Out Fighting. "Woohoo... The fight no one wants to see," one fan commented. Another added: "Don't really see the point in this trilogy. Fury could knock Usyk out first round and Usyk would still have the better record both in and out of the trilogy."
A third responded: "Trilogies should only happen if there are questions that need to be answered from the first two fights. All the questions have been answered," whilst another remarked: "Just fight AJ ffs. No one wants to watch you lose again to Usyk." A fifth posted: "What's the point? Fought twice, well beaten twice." A sixth replied: "The fight nobody asked for," while another commented: "No way, we don't need this fight please."
Fury initially lost to Usyk on points last May, before enduring another decision defeat back in December. The Brit's trilogy with the Ukrainian depends on the result of this month's heavyweight undisputed clash. Should 'Triple D' emerge victorious - Usyk may opt to trigger the immediate rematch which could scupper Fury's chances of a comeback.
Earlier this week, the 36-year-old disclosed that the only bout that would inspire him to return is a trilogy fight with Usyk. "If I was going to come back I'd come back for Usyk," he said. "In England. That's the one I want immediately, that would be the fight I want next. In England for sure."
