Oman targets 5,380 jobs for citizens in key sectors in 2025
In the first quarter of the year, 1,450 Omanis secured jobs in the transport and logistics sector, while 236 found employment in the IT sector. The ministry is targeting a total of 4,950 jobs in transport and logistics and 430 in IT by the end of 2025.
A ministry official confirmed that the 21% Omanisation target in the transport and logistics sectors was achieved in the first quarter. The ministry is also aiming to reach 10% Omanisation in technical, specialised and leadership roles in both sectors, and an overall Omanisation rate of 63%, with 41% specifically in technical and leadership positions.
To meet these goals, the ministry has introduced several policies and regulations. These include mandatory Omanisation quotas for consulting firms contracted by the ministry and a 20% Omanisation requirement for supervisory roles in the last-mile delivery sector.
Efforts to build workforce readiness are also underway. Around 210 Omanis are currently participating in training programmes that include classroom instruction linked to employment. In collaboration with the Oman Logistics Association, 52 Omanis are undergoing training to become qualified heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers.
In the IT sector, the ministry is promoting both structured employment and freelance work. As part of its Freelance Work Initiative, a contract has been signed with Awasr to provide 58 freelance opportunities for Omanis. Additionally, 50 nationals received hands-on training and job placements in semiconductor-related investment projects through the ministry's On-the-Job Training Initiative in Q1.
The Makeen Initiative, aimed at equipping youth with digital skills to support entry into the digital economy, benefitted 990 Omanis during the same period.
The ministry stated these initiatives reflect its commitment to creating sustainable employment opportunities for citizens.

Afreximbank to avail $75 million to Central Bank of The Gambia in a cross-currency swap
African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) ( has signed an agreement to avail a US$75-million five-year cross-currency swap to the Central Bank of The Gambia (CBG) for the financing of strategic projects undertaken in The Gambia by the Government, through the National Roads Authority (NRA). The agreement, signed in Abuja, Nigeria, as part of activities to mark the 32 nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM2025) held from 25 to 28 June, provides for Afreximbank to use the local currency proceeds to purchase NRA-issued bonds, which will serve as the swap securities for the transaction, to finance strategic projects undertaken by the Agency. Signing the agreement for Afreximbank was Mr. Haytham Elmaayergi, Executive Vice President, Global Trade Bank, Afreximbank, while Mr. Buah Saidy, Governor of Central Bank of The Gambia, signed for his organisation. Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Elmaayergi said that the transaction reflected Afreximbank's commitment to driving trade finance in Africa by supporting its member countries to achieve much needed liquidity to enable them finance trade-enabling infrastructure in their countries. 'Through this facility, Afreximbank is using its resources to leverage financing to Africa by unlocking capital and creating additional capacity in support of trade transactions into Africa,' he explained. He noted that this partnership comes at a pivotal time in The Gambia's development trajectory, as the country intensifies efforts to upgrade its transport infrastructure to meet growing trade and connectivity needs. The cross-currency swap is expected to support the construction and rehabilitation of both rural and urban road networks, reinforcing the Gambia's commitment to building a more connected, productive and inclusive economy. According to him, this initiative will enable more efficient movement of goods and services, reduce travel times for commuters and businesses, and improve road safety. Over the long term, these developments will contribute to a more reliable and extensive national road network, helping to deepen regional integration, enhance agricultural and industrial output, and promote sustainable, broad-based economic growth across the country. This transaction underscores Afreximbank's ongoing commitment to supporting African countries in mobilizing innovative financing tools to unlock development and trade potential. On his part, Governor Buah Saidy acknowledged the need for development financing to address supply-sided constraints to development in The Gambia. This swap, he said 'will relax the binding constraint of a challenging transport network, by enabling NRA to build many more roads that H.E. President Adama Barrow has instructed them to build to ease the movement and lives of Gambians'. Governor Saidy noted that the financing made available through the swap will allow NRA to build roads that will open up the economy by connecting the production areas in the rural parts of the country to the markets in the urban centres. CBG is a founding shareholder of Afreximbank while NRA, established in 2006, is responsible for the administration, control, construction and maintenance of all roads in The Gambia. Oakwood Green Africa served as transaction adviser to the NRA and CBG for the transaction, providing them guidance on the structure and facilitating the swap. AAM2025, which attracted an estimated 7,000 participants, including Heads of States, Prime Ministers, ministers and business leaders, from across Africa, the Caribbean and beyond, ended with the Annual General Meeting of Afreximbank Shareholders where Dr. George Elombi was appointed the incoming President of the Bank to replace Prof. Benedict Oramah whose tenure is ending after two five-year terms at the helm. UAE Lottery announces two new games with top prizes of Dh500,000
The UAE Lottery has launched two games, called Gemstone Riches and Sports Mania, each with top prizes of Dh500,000 available. The games are live on the UAE Lottery website under the E-instants category, and will be regulated by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. In Gemstone Riches, players match their numbers to the lucky numbers to win the corresponding prize, with multiple chances to win on a single ticket. The game also features a bonus round unlocked by revealing five gemstone bonus symbols, in which players select four gems to win more prizes. There are 196 prize tiers, with entry prices ranging from Dh2 to Dh50 and top rewards of up to Dh500,000. Sports Mania offers 41 prize tiers and a multiplier feature. Players choose their ticket price and reveal their symbols. They win when their symbols match both the image and the quantity shown at the top. A multiplier of up to 50 can be applied to boost the player's total final winnings. Ticket prices range from Dh2 to Dh50, with prizes up to Dh500,000. Last month saw the launch of two other games, Marble Run and Lucky Lagoon. 'We're building on the momentum of our E-Instant portfolio and continuing to expand the variety and quality of our digital game offerings,' Bishop Woosley, director of lottery operations at The Game LLC, said. 'These new titles introduce simple, interactive formats and creative themes that align with our focus on safe, accessible, and engaging gameplay.' What is the UAE Lottery? Launched last year, the UAE Lottery is the only federally licensed lottery regulated by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. Every fortnight, it gives residents the chance to win a Dh100 million jackpot, along with other cash prizes ranging from Dh100 to Dh1 million. It also offers scratch cards with prizes of up to Dh1 million. The authorised lottery was the result of a major government drive to overhaul the UAE's commercial gaming sector. The regulatory authority was established in September 2023 to shape a 'world-leading regulatory framework for a national lottery and commercial gaming'. Independent lottery operators were directed to pause their activities in January last year. The licence for the national lottery was awarded in July to Game LLC under the banner of the UAE Lottery. What is commercial gaming? According to the regulatory authority's website, it is the only organisation that can regulate, license and supervise commercial gaming activities and centres within the UAE. This covers lottery, internet gaming, sports wagering and land-based integrated gaming centres or resorts. 'Commercial gaming' refers to 'any game of chance, or combination of chance and skill, where an amount of money, in cash or cash equivalents, is wagered – placed as a bet – for the purpose of winning a sum of money or other valuable items'.
