Air Force Chief wows Lima '25 crowd, personally pilots RMAF Su-30MKM

LANGKAWI: Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan wowed spectators at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima '25) today by taking to the skies in the RMAF's Sukhoi SU-30MKM fighter jet.
Adorned with the distinctive Jalur Gemilang livery known as "Toruk Makto", Asghar, whose callsign is "Gunjiz" showed his finesse in handling the Russian multi-role combat aircraft in a spectacular 12-minute display of advanced aerial manoeuvres.
This also marked the first time in Lima's 17-year history that the RMAF chief himself has piloted an aircraft.
Asghar was accompanied by Colonel Mohd Norazan Othman, callsign "Sting", as his backseater during the performance.
The display showcased the exceptional capabilities of the Su-30MKM, including complex manoeuvres that few other fighter jets can perform.
The RMAF said Asghar's direct participation highlighted his leadership and commitment to professionalism, bravery, and excellence within the air force.
The Lima exhibition, now in its 17th iteration since its inception in 1991, is scheduled to run for five days starting today.

North Korea's Kim seen draping coffins with flag at Russia treaty anniversary

Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova speaking to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a performance, in Pyongyang on June 29. -- PHOTO: REUTERS SEOUL (Reuters): North Korea's state media showed on Monday leader Kim Jong Un draping coffins with the national flag in what appeared to be the repatriation of soldiers killed fighting for Russia against Ukraine, as the countries marked a landmark military treaty. In a series of photographs displayed in the backdrop of a gala performance by North Korean and visiting Russian artists in Pyongyang, Kim is seen by rows of a half a dozen coffins, covering them with flags and pausing briefly with both hands resting on them. The scene followed images of North Korean and Russian soldiers waving their national flags with patriotic notes written in Korean. Kim is seen at the gala seemingly overcome with emotion and audience members wiping away tears. North Korea's state KRT television aired the performance, which was attended by Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova who is leading a delegation to mark the first anniversary of the strategic partnership treaty as Kim's guest. The performance was enthusiastically received for inspiring confidence in the "ties of friendship and the genuine internationalist obligation between the peoples and armies of the two countries that were forged at the cost of blood," KCNA news agency said. Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the strategic partnership treaty in June last year in Pyongyang. It includes a mutual defence pact. After months of silence, the two countries have disclosed the deployment of North Korean troops and lauded the "heroic" role they played in Moscow's offensive against Ukraine to reclaim the Kursk region in western Russia. REUTERS/Evgenia Novozhenina/File Photo (Reuters) -Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova arrived in North Korea on Saturday with a 125-strong delegation of performers and praised cultural cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang for achieving "unprecedented heights". Lyubimova, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said a series of concerts and lectures would take place in the North Korean capital in the coming days. Among those in the delegation were performers from the Pyatnitsky Choir and the Gzhel dance troupe. Lyubimova said that thanks to agreements clinched between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un "cooperation in the cultural sphere between our countries has reached unprecedented heights". Since Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Moscow and Pyongyang have drawn closer together, with the two leaders signing a treaty, including a mutual defence pact. Supermodel ties the knot six years after ex-beau's death

Compiled by FAZLEENA AZIZ AND C. ARUNO SUPERMODEL Bella Su finally got married, six years after the death of her boyfriend and actor Godfrey Gao, China Press reported. The 29-year-old held a low-key wedding in China's Yunnan province on June 17 and was photographed wearing a low-cut wedding gown. Her husband's identity, however, remained a mystery as his face was always hidden behind an emoji on photographs posted online. Although Su is in a new relationship, she kept Gao's memory alive at her wedding by featuring the sunflower, which was the late actor's favourite flower, as part of the reception's decoration. 'Love never disappears, but continues to thrive in a different form!' she said in her wedding speech in reference to Gao. According to those who attended the wedding, it was the groom who decided on having a segment honouring Gao's memory during the reception. It was reported that Gao, 35, who was a Taiwan-born Canadian model and actor, collapsed while filming a Chinese variety series in 2019. He collapsed at around 2am on Nov 27, 2019, after filming for 17 hours that day and later failed to be resuscitated at a hospital. After his death, Su revealed that she and Gao had been dating in secret. She was seen attending his wake and funeral together with Gao's family. Su met her husband two years ago while on a trip to Shanghai to visit her maternal grandmother. They decided to get married this year.
