Jennifer Lopez Flaunts Her Abs in Nothing But Diamonds and Fringe for Her Fifth Look at the AMAs

Jennifer Lopez hosted the American Music Awards (AMAs) on May 26—with a total of eight outfit changes.
One outfit, a metallic gown with a sheer tiered fringe shirt, showed off Lopez's hard-earned abs—and called back to her Bronx roots.

Lopez is proudly from the Bronx, and at one point during the AMAs she wore a Bronx and Banco look from the brand's Fall 2023 ready-to-wear collection that showed off her abs. The sparkling metallic gown featured dramatic cutouts and a sheer tiered fringe skirt as she juggled both hosting and performing duties on May 26.
The AMAs are deeply personal to Lopez—her first appearance on the show's stage was all the way back in 1991, when she performed as a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block when she was just 21 years old. The awards show 'has been such a big part of my music journey and history,' she told USA Today, adding, 'We're going to celebrate the year in music.'
Lopez told the outlet that she doesn't usually agree to hosting gigs because 'believe it or not, I'm quite shy,' she said. 'I'm a performer, so if I have a script or a song, I can do that and I love doing that. But hosting is a different thing, a different skill set. I wouldn't say it's my favorite thing to do.'
She certainly looked the part, and as InStyle reported, Lopez didn't fully know what she was going to wear until the night of: 'There's a lot of different options,' she said. 'I will change [my mind]. I'll be like, 'No, I don't like this hair. Let's just pull it back. Give me a ponytail. Where are my hoops?' There's so many different ways to go, and I'm just going to pick whatever feels good in the moment.'
'I'm obviously going to be glam,' she added. 'Some glam, some cool, some chic and elegant, and some sexy, too. All the things that you associate with me and fashion.'
Lopez told People of choosing her looks, 'I work with my stylist and we kind of kick around ideas like, 'What do we want it to be for the performance and what do we want it to be for the hosting and what's our vibe?' We feel it out because I think it does change. For me, my feelings change from month to month, like, 'Who do I want to be today?' because I feel like there's so many different sides to who I am fashion-wise.'
As for executing quick changes during performances—as she did Monday night—'I always want to keep the audience engaged and excited,' Lopez said.
'We just have learned to do it so fast,' she continued. 'So I'm sure we hold a world record or something somewhere.'
