Five-hour closure of Kota Kinabalu bypass this Friday

Kota Kinabalu: The KK bypass, from the Bunga Raya Roundabout to the Costal Roundabout, will be temporarily closed for five hours this Friday (Aug 1), from 6.30am to 11.30am. District Police Chief, ACP Kasim Muda, said the road closure is in conjunction with the National Month Launch, Sabah Day, and the 2025 Flag Raising Campaign. The event is expected to be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall. The traffic lights at the Dewan involving the route from Capital Roundabout (Bandaran) to Dewan Masyarakat Road will also be closed temporarily. However, he said the route from Capital Roundabout to Bunga Raya Roundabout remains open to other road users. He said Jalan Dewan would also be temporarily closed from the direction of Pintu Gerbang Dirgahayu or from the direction of Padang Merdeka. In addition to the closure of roads on Jalan KK Bypass, roads such as Jalan Coastal will also have traffic control measures in place throughout the duration of the programme to ensure smooth traffic flow around the city centre. 'Even if we extract oil from Sabah's land, the oil underneath spreads to Indonesian territory. Anwar on Trump's call

Thank you for helping to resolve this conflict',' Anwar said. Kota Kinabalu: PM Anwar spoke of Malaysia's growing international reputation in the wake of the nation's recent diplomatic success in mediating the border skirmish between Cambodia and Thailand. He said Prime Ministers agreed to hold talks in Kuala Lumpur after extensive diplomatic efforts involving multiple phone calls with world leaders including President Trump and China's President Xi Jinping. 'President Trump called me at 6.50am on Monday and the first thing he said was 'Prime Minister Anwar, fantastic job. Thank you for helping to resolve this conflict',' Anwar said. He also spoke about Malaysia's trade negotiations with the United States, particularly regarding tariffs that could impact the country's significant electronics and semiconductor exports worth RM200 billion annually. He said Malaysia successfully negotiated a reduction in tariffs from 25 per cent to 19 per cent, while maintaining firm positions on key issues including the Bumiputera Economic Policy and halal certification standards. 'I told Trump we are a trading nation, we believe in free trade. I do not act like some people saying 'Dear Mr President, I am sorry'. No, no. I represent Malaysia. 'The Malaysian people are proud, independent and sovereign and do not bow to anyone,' Anwar said. He also spoke about Malaysia Airlines' recent aircraft purchase agreements, including 30 Boeing aircraft from the United States and several Airbus planes from France, noting how these commercial deals support Malaysia's negotiating position in trade discussions. Addressing agricultural development specifically, Anwar said the government's focus is on fertile land utilisation and the Blue Economy concept under the 13th Malaysia Plan. He noted that 28 Farmers' Area Organisations currently oversee 842 farming units with 64,108 farmer members across the nation. 'Malaysia maintains its principled foreign policy stance, including our position on humanitarian issues in Gaza, while our government remains committed to treating all Malaysian children equally regardless of ethnicity,' he said. Anwar: PH to avoid three-way contests

Kota Kinabalu: Pakatan Harapan (PH) aims to avoid clashes among political allies when contesting seats the coming 17th State Election (PRN17). Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is also PH Chairman said the coalition's priority is to prevent three-cornered fights and unnecessary conflicts so as to promote unity and harmony among the allies. 'Our understanding is that for now, we are trying to secure an arrangement where there is no three-cornered fight or any situation that creates so much difference. 'But if it has to happen, our advice is that we will refrain from entering the battle so as not to cause further divisions,' he said. Anwar who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President said this after a meet with PKR Sabah leaders and members at Pacific Sutera Harbour, Sunday. Present were National PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar, PKR Sabah head Datuk Mustapha Sakmud and divisions heads. There are concerns that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates – all part of the Unity Government – may vie for the same seat in some areas the PRN17. He reiterated PH is working towards a consensus to ensure no overlapping of seats among allied candidates which may cause vote-splitting that would benefit the opposition. Anwar said discussions are still ongoing to ensure there is full understanding (among the allies). 'We are ready to work closely with both BN and PH, and this is the result of consultations led by the relevant committees,' he said. On perceptions of a political 'love triangle' between the three coalitions, Anwar jested that 'love is a beautiful thing — sometimes it comes with a little pain. But that's what love means.' On seat allocations, he said the details would be left to the election committee. Asked if such scenarios could confuse voters, he acknowledged the possibility, especially in constituencies where party clashes might occur. 'Our intention is to ensure that, if necessary, to secure a mutual understanding. That is our priority.
