J-K: Joint mock landslide drill conducted in Udhampur ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 29 (ANI): In a preemptive effort to ensure safety during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2025, a joint mock landslide drill was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the JKSDRF (Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force) at Samroli, Toldi Nallah, on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday.
The exercise aimed to assess emergency preparedness in case of landslides or natural disasters during the pilgrimage. The simulation involved rescuing stranded vehicles and providing immediate aid to injured pilgrims, with security and disaster response teams efficiently coordinating evacuation and medical assistance.
During the drill, a mock victim was safely rescued by the joint teams, administered first aid, and transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance. The exercise demonstrated seamless coordination among agencies for rapid response in real emergencies.
Deputy SP (Headquarters) Udhampur, Prehlad Kumar, emphasised that security forces are fully equipped to handle any challenges during the yatra and ensure pilgrims' safety. He stated that such drills enhance the readiness of disaster management and security personnel to address emergencies and protect devotees throughout the pilgrimage season. The exercise reaffirms the administration's commitment to a safe and smooth Amarnath Yatra 2025.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Saturday, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start from July 1 to August 9, a release said.
The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range Sarah Rizvi-, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police.
SSP Udhampur gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district's security plan, including deployment of forces, convoy and traffic management, safety of camps and langar sites, emergency plans, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams.
Addressing the meeting, the DGP emphasised to all the officers to maintain very close coordination, which he said is of utmost importance to ensure an incident-free Yatra.
He directed that the zonal/sectoral officers must have the information regarding the availability and location of special teams like Drone Units, BD squad, Dog squad, QRTs etc. to ensure that services of these teams are utilised on a real-time basis in case of any emergency. (ANI)

Assam: Two accused in CRPF camp grenade blast injured in police encounter
Two youths arrested for their alleged involvement in a grenade blast in Assam's Golaghat were injured in a police encounter on Monday. Both the injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), police said. (Representative file photo) They were among the six youths arrested from Golaghat and surrounding districts following the grenade blast which occurred at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in the Sapjuri Panbari area of Golaghat's Bokakhat on June 24. Three Assam Police personnel—Siddhartha Borbora, Sushil Bhumij, and Mintu Hazarika—sustained injuries in the low-intensity grenade attack on the night of June 24, prompting an immediate search operation by the police. At around 8:20pm, two individuals riding a motorcycle allegedly lobbed a grenade at the camp, police said. According to people aware of the development, Bhavesh Kalita and Sanjeev Baruah were not directly involved in the attack but are believed to have planned the incident. Explosives and a pistol were recovered from them during the arrests. During interrogation, Bhavesh and Sanjeev reportedly informed the police that they had hidden two pistols near the CRPF camp and guided the officials to that location on Sunday night. 'After reaching the spot, they attacked police and pointed guns at the officials. Despite repeated warnings, they continued threatening the personnel and attempted to flee when our officers opened fire on them,' a senior police officer said. Bhavesh and Sanjeev sustained injuries in the lower parts of their bodies during the encounter and were first rushed to a local government hospital. They were later shifted to JMCH in Jorhat, police said. Police stated that Ankur, Bhavesh, Sanjeev, and three others have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act. Pakistani national apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri for aiding infiltrators along LoC: Report
Security forces on Sunday apprehended a Pakistani national near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Manjakote area of Rajouri district, officials confirmed. The individual, identified as 22-year-old Mohammad Arib Ahmed, was captured in a forward area of the Bhimber Gali sector. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his presence near the sensitive border zone, ANI reported. 'Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding a fresh attempt to push terrorists across the LoC, the Army, along with the BSF, initiated a well-coordinated counter-infiltration operation on Sunday. Vigilant troops, maintaining an aggressive surveillance posture in the rugged terrain of the Gambhir area, detected suspicious movement by a group of four to five heavily armed individuals attempting to exploit the difficult terrain and dense foliage to infiltrate,' Hindustan Times reported, citing a defence official. 'During the subsequent operation, one individual—later identified as a guide facilitating the infiltration—was successfully apprehended. The remaining four terrorists, believed to be members of JeM, are suspected to have sustained injuries while attempting to escape and were forced to retreat across the LoC under the cover of thick foliage and adverse weather conditions,' a defence official told Hindustan Times. 'Presently, he is being questioned by the security forces,' officials told ANI. In a similar incident last month, a Pakistani national was apprehended from the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. During the subsequent operation, one individual—later identified as a guide facilitating the infiltration—was successfully apprehended. Another Pakistani national was detained by Border Security Force (BSF) troops after he illegally crossed the border in the Gurdaspur area of Punjab.
