They tried to break Lucy Connolly, but the decent people of Britain will never desert her

Telegraph7 days ago
Yesterday, I spoke to Orla Minihane, mother of three teenagers and a Reform UK council candidate, who gave a magnificent, impromptu speech in Epping saying that the protesters were not 'far-Right', as the media and the authorities like to allege. It was a peaceful demonstration by normal British people who had had enough and were going to protect their kids come what may.
Addressing the issue at a press conference in London, Nigel Farage took the bold step of saying that immigration was to blame for the sharp rise in rapes and sexual assaults in the UK.
Orla, who has been trolled online as a 'Nazi Barbie' and a 'moronic fascist', was disgusted with Essex Police for escorting counter-protesters from Stand Up to Racism (far-Left agitators with placards apparently paid for by the Socialist Workers Party, as the media and authorities don't like to allege) to clash with concerned locals like her. 'If you were in Dover in these numbers, stopping hundreds breaking into our country every day, we wouldn't have this problem,' Orla told officers. One Epping single mother reported an incident involving a migrant to the police and an officer replied: 'Be careful what you say, you know what happened to Lucy Connolly.'
'Outrageous,' says my senior source in Essex Police, 'but a true reflection of the woke culture the chief constable (Ben-Julian Harrington) has spent so much time and money on. Officers aren't taught about free speech in relation to cases like Lucy Connolly's – all they know is hurt feelings.'
The tide is turning fast on that deluded, self-loathing culture, in no small part due to the scandal of Lucy Connolly. Just consider how things have changed:
'If that makes me racist so be it'
Lucy's defiant assertion of her right to criticise the UK's immigration policy is now echoed up and down the land, from pubs to dinner parties. Starmer's Stasi could silence people with the stigma of being racist or 'far-Right' a year ago, but the people have wised up to their tricks. The British will no longer be demonised for defending their women, their children and their culture against illegal migrants. Call us what you like, we are right and they are wrong.
Two-tier Keir
The UK has become a free-speech pariah with Lucy jailed for two-and-a-half years for a thought crime no one has ever linked to actual violence while a (now former) Labour MP Mike Amesbury, who admitted punching a constituent repeatedly, had his laughable 10-week prison sentence suspended within a few short days. Meanwhile, suspended Labour councillor Ricky Jones, captured on video apparently calling for far-Right protesters to have their throats 'cut', only a few days after Lucy's tweet, has been out on bail; his case will not even be heard until later this month. What the hell? Little wonder the Connolly case has made astounded headlines around the world. Last week, Le Monde quoted me on the scandal, saying it had 'brought shame on the UK'. See also the Prime Minister's embarrassment as President Trump schooled him on the way to deal with illegal migrants. An ashen Starmer looks as itchily uncomfortable as a seven-year-old boy with worms. 'You better get your act together or you're not going to have Europe anymore,' Trump warned on his arrival. 'But you're allowing it to happen to your countries and you got to stop this horrible invasion that's happening to Europe. Immigration is killing Europe.' And so say all of Epping!
Misinformation
While ordinary protesters are accused of acting on and spreading 'misinformation', the state is already using (and abusing) the new Online Safety Act to censor public discontent with immigration while denying that posts have wrongly been taken down from X. In fact, since the new rules came into force last week, the platform has blocked users from viewing a clip of MP Katie Lam speaking about grooming gangs in the House of Commons until X has verified their age. So the state is not prepared to protect children against rape, but instead 'protects' adults from hearing about it.
At the weekend, The Telegraph revealed that an elite police unit will monitor social media for signs of 'anti-migrant sentiment'. That's the same state which used a superinjunction to hide from the British people the fact that it had smuggled in thousands of Afghans at a total cost believed to be around £7bn to the taxpayer. And some of those Afghans were Taliban who had fought against British troops, and are now occupying Army quarters next to squaddies' wives and kids. Surely, the most outrageous piece of 'misinformation' in our history. But apparently the real problem is with mothers and fathers who don't want their daughters hissed at and molested on the way to school.
'Take the treacherous government and politicians with them'
Lucy's contempt for politics is nigh on universal now. Successive governments are increasingly viewed as traitors to this country, having ushered in more immigration since 1997 than in all preceding centuries in our history combined. 'Diversity is our strength' rings hollow when foreign-born men are responsible for some 40 per cent of sexual crime against women in London. Opposition to immigration now stands at 75 per cent, which is why Reform UK, the party that is the most trusted opponent of immigration, is at 34 per cent in the polls.
I could go on, and on. It was truly appalling for Lucy Connolly to call for people to set fire to migrant hotels; even if it was a throwaway remark in the heat of the moment, no one could condone it. The burden of her tweet, however, has only gained salience over the past year. As Nigel Farage said, when he insisted that Lucy did not belong in jail: 'Millions of mothers at that moment in time were feeling exactly the same.' They were, and fathers too, and they will no longer keep quiet. The safety of their children may depend on it.
'Lucy will be a national hero when she gets out,' Orla Minihane told me, and that is why our Government fears her. One ordinary woman, a bereaved mother herself, enraged by the massacre of little girls, has acquired a talismanic force because she articulated the furious anguish of millions, and had to be punished for it.
What if Lucy Connolly were to run against Yvette Cooper at the next general election and the patriotic people of West Yorkshire chose to vote to protect British children and showed what they think of a Labour government that is allowing our country to be invaded so there is no Britain anymore? Don't rule it out. We know it now, don't we? This is our last stand.

British spy planes 'are still flying over Gaza to help Israel find missing hostages'

The RAF is continuing to fly spy planes over Gaza to help Israel 's government find the still-missing hostages taken by Hamas. According to sources who spoke to the Times, RAF aircraft launched from British air bases in the Middle East are being used to gather intelligence on the movement of those captured by Hamas on October 7 2023, and passed onto the IDF. Since the war between Hamas and Israel began, Britain has sent specialised aircraft to help Israel. Shadow R1s, specialist surveillance planes equipped with sophisticated espionage technology, have been flown almost everyday over the enclave. While the MoD refuses to disclose which aircraft are being used for these missions, flight tracking data shows the Shadow R1s have flown hundred of missions, as recently as last month, after taking off from Cyprus' RAF Akrotiri. The Ministry of Defence told the newspaper that these flybys are only done to collect information on the hostages. But questions have been raised over whether the missions are purely for finding the hostages. Former Major General Charlie Herbert told the newspaper: 'It's all good and proper saying they are handing over intelligence for the purposes for locating hostages, but in reality that intelligence is just as likely to be used as targeting for Hamas and others.' The confirmation of the missions comes despite relations between Britain and Israel being at an all-time low, following Prime Minister Keir Starmer's conditional pledge to recognise the state of Palestine, along with senior British government figures condemning Israel's actions in Gaza. Foreign Secretary David Lammy previously said he was 'appalled, sickened' by the 'grotesque' targeting of Palestinians seeking food by the IDF, and has threatened further sanctions. The UK government has invoked the ire of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who claimed the UK was 'rewarding Hamas' by conditionally pledging to recognise Palestine as a state. Earlier today Netanyahu reportedly told the military to prepare for a full takeover of the Gaza Strip, including areas where hostages are being held. A source in the Prime Minister's Office told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that the message had been passed on to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir saying: 'If this does not suit you, then you should resign.' It comes as Netanyahu prepares to meet with top officials to decide on the next steps in Gaza and what to do about the remaining hostages. An Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post: 'The prime minister is considering all available options regarding the next steps.' According to reports, the prime minister used the phrase 'occupation of the Strip' in private conversations while describing his intentions for Gaza. Netanyahu is now preparing to meet with top officials to decide on the next steps in Gaza and what to do about the remaining hostages If Netanyahu's plans are successful, the Israeli military could extend its reach across the whole region, according to local reports. It currently holds 75 percent of the Strip. He is now set to take the plans to his cabinet to seek their backing for the plan. In a video message, Netanyahu said he was 'committing to free Gaza from the tyranny of these terrorists'. According to The Times of Israel, the IDF is against the proposal and has said it would take a significant amount of time to clear infrastructure belonging to Hamas.

Starmer's local council could become fully vegan

A Labour-led council covering Sir Keir Starmer's constituency could become fully vegan. Camden council, in north London, commissioned a report that concluded a 100 per cent plant-based catering regime was 'in line' with their 'food mission', according to the environmentalist group Plant Based Councils. Under the plans, which the group expects to be formally incorporated next year, only plant-based food would be served at council-catered events and meetings. 'Draconian ban' There is no expectation that Camden residents, nor workers at the local authority, would be prohibited from eating meat. But critics have claimed the council is 'wasting vital time and resources ramming through a draconian ban on meat and dairy '. Mo Metcalf-Fisher, director of external affairs at the Countryside Alliance, said Camden council 'should instead be supporting our British farmers who produce some of the most sustainable food in the world, regardless of whether it's meat, dairy or vegetables.' Plant Based Councils has claimed credit for moving seven councils to a 'plant-based' diet. Oxfordshire county council, held by the Liberal Democrats, as well as Labour-held Calderdale and Exeter councils, committed to the move in 2015, 2020 and 2022, respectively. Kush Naker, a leading member of the Camden Plant-Based Councils campaign, described it as a 'huge moment', and said he was 'thrilled that our council has listened to the science and the local community and shown real leadership.' He added: 'This policy isn't about telling individuals what to eat. It's about ensuring that our public institutions reflect the urgent need to shift toward sustainable, inclusive, and compassionate food systems.' The campaign said in its announcement of the move that it 'hopes Camden's bold move will inspire other councils across London and the London Assembly to follow suit. As the capital of the UK, London should lead the way for others to do the same.' '10 councils reject compulsory veganism' But the Countryside Alliance have claimed councils should be championing local sourcing and freedom of choice, instead of banning meat and dairy. A campaign led by the group has seen 10 councils reject 'compulsory veganism', and promote the importance of shopping locally and supporting UK farmers. So far Suffolk, Cornwall, Portsmouth, Fenland, Peterborough, the Highlands, Dorset, Wiltshire, Staffordshire Moorlands and Rutland have all signed up to the alternative campaign. Mr Metcalf-Fisher also said there were 'questions for the local MP and leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, who should clarify whether more Labour councils will be going vegan'. A Camden council spokesman said: 'We are not a fully plant-based council but we are looking at ways of moving towards serving more healthy, seasonal and locally grown food.'

‘High risk' sex offender jailed for breaching orders

The 24-year-old, who appeared on the court list as Luke Hardy but identifies as Zoe Hardy and was referred to using female pronouns during the sentencing hearing, breached Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPO), Teesside Crown Court heard. The first order was imposed in 2022 after Hardy was sentenced to a community order for three counts of making indecent images of children, including eight of the most serious kind, which were found on his mobile phone. Hardy breached that order in 2023 by deleting his internet history on his phone, including erasing dating apps from the handset, which was against the provisions of the order. Later that same year, Hardy breached the order by registering on a pornography site using the name Lucy which was prohibited as that was an alias which he had not notified the police about. The court heard that Hardy explained to police at the time how he was 'struggling with her sexuality, sometimes feeling like Luke, sometimes like Lucy'. Saba Shan, prosecuting, said the latest breach occurred in July when officers visited Hardy's home in Yarm Lane, Stockton after officers had designated him a 'high risk sex offender', and found he had used the name 'Zoe' as part of his identification on a dating app, in an email account and his name on a mobile game. It was understood that the breach occurred because Hardy did not inform police about any use of an alias online. Judge Richard Clews jailed Hardy for eight months for breaching the SHPOs and an extra month when he activated part of previous suspended sentences. He told the defendant: 'It is appropriate to describe the breaches of the Sexual Harm Prevention Order as persistent and deliberate.' He sentenced on the basis that there had been no harm caused to anyone else by Hardy breaching the orders.
