Colorado loans Canadian winger Kimani Stewart-Baynes to Lexington of USL Championship
Colorado took Stewart-Baynes fourth overall in the MLS SuperDraft in December 2023.
The 20-year-old from Toronto has made 16 MLS appearances for the Rapids first team. His four appearances this season have been all off the bench, totalling 28 minutes.
He's made 18 appearances for Rapids 2 in MLS Next Pro play, with four goals in 12 appearances (742 minutes) this season.
Stewart-Baynes, who has represented Canada at the under-20 level, was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2023 at the University of Maryland, scoring three goals and adding seven assists in 14 games
As part of the loan agreement, the Rapids can recall Stewart-Baynes at any time.
'This is a perfect fit for Kimani at this point in his career and we are excited to see him make the most of this opportunity,' Colorado sporting director Fran Taylor said in a statement. 'We see a lot of potential with Kimani, and we believe he will be able to work to unlock that over in the USL Championship with Lexington.'
Lexington (4-6-7) sits 10th in the USL Championship's 12-team Western Conference.

Immediately after that pitch he bent over and dangled his right arm, prompting Rockies head trainer Keith Duggar to jog to the mound to check on him. After a brief discussion Halvorsen left the game, with Dugan Darnell coming on to finish the 8-5 win. Schaeffer said Halvorsen wasn't experiencing problems entering Saturday's game. 'Not recently, but he was feeling something a while back, but he's been good for a while,' Schaeffer said. Halvorsen has been Colorado's main closer since the beginning of June and had converted nine of his last 10 opportunities, including his last six. Three of those have come after the All-Star break, which has helped the Rockies post a 7-6 record. Colorado, which is 30-80, is trying to avoid setting a modern era record for losses set by the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who were 41-121.

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have put closer Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain after he had to leave Saturday's win over Pittsburgh. Interim manager Warren Schaeffer said at the time the injury didn't look good — after the right-hander left after throwing five pitches in the ninth inning. Halvorsen leads the Rockies with 11 saves. Colorado also recalled right-hander Nick Anderson and catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, and the Rockies optioned infielder Michael Toglia to Albuquerque.
