Hailey Van Lith opens up about struggles at LSU
Hailey Van Lith was back in the PMAC on Friday as the Chicago Sky were in town to meet the Brazilian National Team. Van Lith met with the media and opened up about her time with the Tigers.
"I had to be purposeful and intentional about how I made sure I could fit into the puzzle and help us win some games," Van Lith said. "When you're asked to be someone you aren't necessarily, I think that's a different type of resilience that you learn only be going throughout."
Following three years as a starter for Louisville, Van Lith transferred to LSU to lend her scoring skills to the reigning national champions. However, she couldn't find the same rhythm alongside All-Americans Angel Reese, Aneesah Morrow and Flau'Jae Johnson. Her points per game dropped from 19.7 to 11.6, leading her to search for her third school.
Van Lith took her talents to TCU and finished the season as the leading scorer with 17.9 points and 5.4 assists per contest as well as the Big 12 Player of the Year. She led the Horned Frogs on their first March Madness run, making it to the Elite Eight.
Following her final collegiate postseason, Van Lith turned her attention to the professional level and was drafted No. 11 by the Sky. With a short turnaround for her rookie year, Van Lith will rely on her strong mindset to take advantage of her opportunity.
"You never really get out of rhythm and you're never in the offseason so you're kind of in that flow that you were in in the NCAA tournament," Van Lith said. "I'm a tough girl so I'll play through fatigue until I feel fresh again."
Shortly after Van Lith transferred last year, Mulkey offered her thoughts.
"Her aspirations were to get drafted this year, and she realized, 'I need another year, and I need to go back to a place where I can relax and get back to my normal position.' And what do you do? You hug her and you wish her well," Mulkey told NOLA.com.

Person arrested for throwing sex toy onto WNBA court, league says
A person has been arrested for throwing a sex toy onto the court of a WNBA game between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream earlier this week, the league announced Saturday via the San Francisco Chronicle's Marisa Ingemi. The incident was the first of two to hit the WNBA this week, with a second green toy landing at the court of another Valkyries road game against the Chicago Sky on Friday. Per the Chronicle, that toy was thrown by a person different from the one in Atlanta. In addition to criminal charges, the WNBA promised immediate ejection and a minimum one-year ban for anyone who throws an object onto the court. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The league's statement, via the Chronicle: 'Any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities,' the league wrote. 'The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans. … The subject involved in the incident in Atlanta on Tuesday has been arrested.' Security officials were reportedly spotted questioning fans at the 200 level of the Sky's Wintrust Arena on Friday, so the league or authorities could be in the process of identifying that fan as well. Video of both incidents have gone viral on social media, with even some WNBA players joking about the ridiculous situation. Others, however, have denounced the action as dangerous and demeaning, including Sky center Elizabeth Williams, per the Chicago Tribune: 'It's super disrespectful,' Sky center Elizabeth Williams said after the Valkyries' 73-66 victory. 'I don't really get the point of it. It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.' And Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini, per the Associated Press: "I mean, first of all, it was super dangerous," Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini said after Tuesday's game. "And then when we found out what it was, I guess we just started laughing. I've never seen anything like that. I'm just glad we worked through that situation. We stayed locked in. We stayed concentrated." Others have spoken out on social media: Sex toys being thrown onto the field of play isn't completely unprecedented, but the circumstances were vastly different in the most notable example, where the Buffalo Bills fans have thrown them in games against the New England Patriots.

Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham makes blunt social media post following incident at Golden State Valkyrie-Chicago Sky game
This past week, the WNBA made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Twice, a green dildo was thrown onto the court during Golden State Valkyries games, halting play and creating chaos mid-game. Indiana's Sophie Cunningham posted bluntly on social media: 'stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us.' The first incident occurred on July 29 during a tight matchup between the Valkyries and Atlanta Dream. With the game tied at 75‑75 in the final minute, a fan tossed a neon-green sex toy onto the floor, prompting an abrupt stoppage before officials removed the item and resumed play. The Valkyries went on to win 77‑75, but the moment quickly went viral. Then, just days later, on August 1, it happened again. During a game between the Valkyries and the Chicago Sky, another green dildo was thrown near the basket in the third quarter, once again stopping the action as referees and staff scrambled to clear the floor. This also could be recoil from fans as a whole about the "pay us what you owe us" campaign, saying you don't deserve squat, just not put as nicely. The WNBA is sometimes more of a reality TV show than a competitive, entertaining sport, and this just adds to that perception.
