Davante Adams recalls his 'miserable...dark time' with the Raiders
It's certainly not been great for Adams the past couple years. After catching 100 passes for 1516 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2022, everything fell apart in 2023. The Raiders released his good friend Derek Carr, but the real problem was they still had Josh McDaniels at head coach. Or they did for half the season before he was fired and the job was handed over to linebackers coach Antonio Pierce.
Pierce was a fiery presence, but he is a defensive minded guy. Not only that, but he wasn't great at the whole game management part. And despite Adams's number of catches rising to 103 that season, his yards per catch (11.1) and touchdowns (8) were his worst since 2015; his second season in the league. It was not a great time for Adams.
"That was just a dark moment in all of our lives," Adams told ESPN at Rams camp this week. "I think all of us were pretty miserable over there."
The subject came up because Adams is teammates again with Jimmy Garoppolo who was the Raiders starting QB to begin that doomed 2023 season. And Adams was trying to make sure Jimmy G know his feelings about that season and his part in it was nothing personal. Adams even said he and Jimmy G "caught up and laughed about it."
For those old enough to remember that 'dark time', the Raiders locker room was elated in celebration when they won the first game after McDaniels's firing. There was a weight that had lifted from them. Like 'Ding dong, the witch is dead' kind of jubilance. Tho most of that energy seemed to be coming from the defensive side of the ball.
That energy didn't carry over into 2024 when Pierce had the interim tag removed to become the head coach heading into the season. And soon the rumblings that Adams wanted out began. Rumors he wasn't happy were out there, but didn't really give a firm denial of their validity. And it only took three games into the season before Adams had seen enough and wanted to join Rodgers in New York.
Times are not only better now for Adams, but better for the Raiders. So, everyone is happy.

ESPN obtains RedZone, other media assets from NFL in blockbuster deal, per report
In one of the biggest media deals this century, ESPN and the National Football League agreed to a deal that will send popular entities such as RedZone over to the network, according to The Athletic. The deal, according to the report, could be worth billions and is expected to be formally announced next week. ESPN is gearing to start its direct-to-consumer service within weeks, which consumers are expected to pay nearly $30 a month, allowing buyers to cut cable subscriptions even further as people have more choices than ever in how they consume content featuring the nation's most popular and attended spectator sport. The network is expected to absorb the aforementioned RedZone, NFL Network, headquartered in Culver City, California, and to take on its slate of games this season as well as the league's popular fantasy football franchises. It is not expected that NFL Films is part of the deal, but the league is likely to take a 10% stake in the majority Disney-owned ESPN. The league is currently in an 11-year, $111 billion media rights deal with Amazon, CBS, ESPN, Fox, and NBC, which is set to expire in 2033. The deal still needs to be approved by government regulators, but is expected to be done in plenty of time for the network to gear up for its Super Bowl 61 coverage. The game is set for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game is to be aired by ABC, another Disney-owned property.

Tom Brady makes first appearance at Raiders training camp as minority owner
There was a Goat on the field today in Henderson. With the Raiders practicing, they had minority owner Tom Brady taking in the action. Several current Raiders players were teammates with Brady. Including WR Jakobi Meyers, LB Elandon Roberts, DT Adam Butler, LB Devin White, and G Alex Cappa. All five won Super Bowls with Brady, the latter two were on his team in Tampa. For that matter, so was the Raiders GM John Spytek who was the Bucs' assistant GM that year. Brady just retired from the NFL two seasons ago, so there are a good many players on this team who faced him on the field as well. These days, however, he is in an advisory role. As minority owner he literally has a stake in the success of the frnachise. And with his breadth of knowledge and respect as a seven-time Super Bowl champion, he has the ear of Raiders brass whenever they ask for his opinion on adding players. And for the first time -- at least for a media attended practice -- he watched some of those players on the practice field.
