Jazz rookie Ace Bailey nears double figures in summer league debut

USA Today14 hours ago
Ace Bailey neared a double-double in his debut in the Salt Lake City Summer League, helping the Utah Jazz post a 93-89 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.
Bailey finished with eight points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in nearly 25 minutes of action at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. He earned the start in the contest, going 3 of 13 from the field, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range.
The fifth overall pick struggled to make shots, though he flashed his potential as a rebounder, with several coming over a crowd. He also had a highlight-worthy block after making an acrobatic effort to swat an attempt away by Mark Armstrong.
After orchestrating a precarious predraft process, Bailey said at his introductory press conference on June 29 that he was eager to play basketball once again. He had that opportunity on Saturday after taking part in several practices ahead of summer league.
The Jazz have reportedly been impressed by Bailey in workouts and meetings since joining the team, according to ESPN. They have put Bailey and the rest of the team through rigorous workouts over the past week and have been pleased with the results from those sessions.
Bailey and the Jazz return to action on Tuesday for their second of three matchups in Utah. After that stretch, they will play at least five games in the NBA Summer League, beginning Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bold Trade Idea: Celtics Get Two Key Jazz Players In "2 For 2" Deal

Bold Trade Idea: Celtics Get Two Key Jazz Players In "2 For 2" Deal originally appeared on Fadeaway World. After the Boston Celtics failed in the second round in the postseason, don't assume the front office will kick their feet up and run it back. In fact, the opposite might be true. Advertisement With a suffocating second apron looming and several high-salaried stars on the books, Boston could be forced into subtraction by necessity, and one surprising name on the chopping block is Kristaps Porzingis. This is purely about sustainability, and if Brad Stevens wants to keep this team contending deep into the decade without drowning in luxury tax penalties, he'll need to make some tough calls. Jayson Tatum is nursing an Achilles injury, and besides him, nobody on the team can be deemed untouchable. Enter the Utah Jazz, a team with no illusions of title contention this season but plenty of win-now pieces ready to be leveraged. A '2 for 2' swap could benefit both sides: the Celtics offload a hefty contract while upgrading their starting five with grittier, more durable depth, and the Jazz land a star to jumpstart their next phase. Don't be surprised if Boston kicks the tires on this kind of shakeup. They've proven they're not afraid of bold moves, and this one could balance their books and boost their repeat chances. Advertisement Proposed Trade Details Boston Celtics Receive: Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton Utah Jazz Receive: Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis Boston Celtics Gain Shooting And Defense At A Cheaper Level Boston bolsters its frontcourt and backcourt simultaneously in this trade. Walker Kessler, fresh off a breakout 2024-25 campaign, averaged 11.1 PPG, 12.2 RPG, and 2.4 BPG while shooting an electric 66.3% from the field. At just 23 and on $4.9M next season, his rim protection and rebounding prowess fill a glaring need for attack anchors, all while replacing Porzingis' hefty $30 million salary with a much more cost-effective option, freeing room under the dreaded second apron. Advertisement Meanwhile, Collin Sexton ($19M next season) brings explosive scoring and elite energy to Boston's guard rotation. In 63 games for Utah, he dropped 18.4 PPG, connecting on 40.6% from deep and showcasing top-tier on-ball quickness. Sexton's ability to generate offense off the dribble and stretch the floor offers versatility and spark alongside Tatum and Brown, laddering the Celtics with a younger, cheaper punch. Together, Kessler and Sexton don't just fill roles; they offer long-term upside. Kessler's interior game enhances Boston's defense, while Sexton's backcourt chops sharpen their offensive edge. Both come on cheaper salaries, allowing Boston cap flexibility and appeasing CBA restrictions, all while injecting youth and athleticism into a veteran lineup. Utah Jazz Add Some Win-Now Pieces Around Lauri Markkanen And The No. 5 Overall Pick Utah pivots to veteran leadership with this move. Derrick White, a steady All-Defensive guard, averages 16.4 PPG, 4.8 APG, and 4.5 RPG across 76 games alongside Porzingis, thriving in Boston's systems. His two-way consistency, especially in crunch time, brings veteran savvy and playmaking punch to Utah's younger squad. Advertisement On the other end of the court, Kristaps Porzingis brings elite spacing and rim protection, averaging $30.7 million next season. In Boston, he displayed his gravity, floor-stretching, and defense. Utah lands a high-impact big man who can form a formidable frontcourt pairing with Lauri Markkanen and bolster their competitiveness. This deal signals Utah's 'win-now' approach around Markkanen, infusing the roster with experienced, proven contributors. Jumping from a pure rebuild, the Jazz could quickly become a dark-horse playoff team, pairing youth and draft assets with veteran guidance and immediate impact talent. A Perfect "2 For 2" Deal Involving Some Key Moving Parts The financials align beautifully. Boston sheds Porzingis' $30M contract, replacing it with Kessler and Sexton's combined $24M, providing breathing room under the second apron while keeping core stars intact. The move also sidesteps luxury tamp restrictions, preserving future trades, draft flexibility, and roster fluidity. Advertisement Utah, meanwhile, swaps two veteran expiring pieces for a defensive anchor and offensive spark. They upgrade from mid-tier rotation players to two veterans capable of immediately elevating the team around Markkanen. It's a statement: they believe this season and postseason contention are within reach. Narratively, it's strategic chess. Boston gains gearable youth with upside and cap relief, while Utah grabs leadership and spacing to accelerate their window. Both teams walk away strengthened, a classic win-win execution that tightens margins, maximizes assets, and turns needs into opportunities. Knicks Fans Delighted To Sign Jordan Clarkson Following $14.2 Million Jazz Buyout: "Desperate Need Has Been Filled"

Knicks Fans Delighted To Sign Jordan Clarkson Following $14.2 Million Jazz Buyout: "Desperate Need Has Been Filled" originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Jordan Clarkson, the 11-year veteran in the NBA, reportedly intends to sign with the Knicks after he clears his waivers with the Jazz. He was expected to earn $14.2 million in the 2025-26 season, but both parties have mutually agreed to part ways, and now Clarkson is headed to New York to join the Knicks. Advertisement Knicks fans seemed to be delighted to hear this news as they took to social media and expressed their feelings on this move. "Knicks to the finals" "This is a solid move for the Knicks. Clarkson brings scoring and versatility, which they need. Excited to see how he fits into the lineup!" "Amazing signing" "The bench scorer and reliever that we needed, as long as it's a team-friendly deal (likely vet minimum), this is a slam dunk for Leon." "Clarkson is a legitimate bench scorer/elite shot creator!! Desperate need has been filled." "Huge bench scoring option. Exactly what we needed." "Love it if it's for the vet minimum. Good f***ing start to the offseason, man." Advertisement "Smh if we don't sign Russell Westbrook imma be pissed" Clarkson averaged 16.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game last season for the Jazz, but that was due to his limited usage as he played only 26 minutes per game. He was shooting 40.8% from the field last season, and 36.2% from deep. On any good day, he could drop 20 points off the bench for the Knicks. Why The Knicks Needed Jordan Clarkson The Knicks fell short in the Eastern Conference Finals this season simply because the Pacers' roster depth, with the likes of Bennedict Mathurin and T.J. McConnell coming off the bench, outplayed the Knicks down the stretch. Therefore, the Knicks realized that they needed some bench depth for scoring, as they cannot be overly reliant on Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns to generate all their offense. Advertisement Hence, Clarkson is the perfect fit for their requirements. Here's a mixtape of his highlights from the season to show you exactly who the Knicks are adding to their roster. Some fans even anticipate that the Knicks will add more depth to their roster by signing Russell Westbrook as well, who is also a free agent. Considering that he will also likely be a veteran minimum addition to the team, the Knicks will have acquired some high-quality bench depth and spent very little money in doing so if Westbrook also joins the Knicks. Do you think the Knicks should sign Russell Westbrook after Jordan Clarkson? Let us know in the comments section. Charlotte Hornets Turn Heads with Offseason Moves

Charlotte Hornets Turn Heads with Offseason Moves originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NBA world is in a frenzy and rightfully so. The 2025 Free Agency period has begun and names are flying off the board. From big stars to rotational pieces, many players are finding new homes at an alarming rate. One team who has been making very subtle but substantial news is the Charlotte Hornets. Advertisement Riding high off a stellar 2025 NBA Draft, the Hornets were looking to provide adequate talent to a young roster. After drafting their players of the future, Charlotte looked at what was missing and made it a point to add it to the roster. Their first order of business was to snag a playmaking guard who can not only facilitate but also knock down key shots in clutch time. Colin Sexton comes to the Queen City as a nice addition. He was acquired in a trade with the Utah Jazz for draft capital and Jusuf Nurkic. With this move, Sexton can take over the reins while LaMelo Ball recovers from his ankle injury. With Sexton in the fold, the Hornets can become much better on the offensive side. The Hornets are ranked in the bottom five of nearly every offensive category. Sexton averaged 18.4 points and 4.2 assists on 48 percent from the field. After the trade, Charlotte had to find someone to provide depth to a depleted backcourt. The need for leadership is a key factor when looking for pieces to add. Look no further than veteran center Mason Plumlee, who returns to Charlotte. Advertisement Plumlee may be up there in age but he still has the ability to get up and down the floor and bring back that savvy rim protection, which is a piece they desperately need after dealing away Mark Williams. Plumlee has been a serviceable backup for many teams and will continue that in the run and gun style offense in Charlotte. Buzz City continued moving pieces in the signings of guards Tre Mann and Spencer Dinwiddie. Remember how I said Charlotte's offense was abysmal? It looks like they found their solution. Mann returns to find his footing after briefly testing the free agent market. He was averaging 14 points per game and shooting 40 percent behind the arc before a back injury sidelined him. Related: Nike to Release Hornets Inspired Air Jordan 5 Retro 'Grape' Dinwiddie, on the other hand, was stuck in a rut. After coming off the bench in Dallas, he was limited to what he is capable of. His length can create problems which gives him versatility within the lineup. Advertisement Related: What The Collin Sexton Trade Means for Hornets' Backcourt Offensively, Dinwiddie can go off for 20 and pass the ball as well as the top point guard. He has been in the league for quite awhile and could provide a veteran's touch in the backcourt. He has also played with many future Hall-of-Famers like Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving. All that experience can make a difference in a close game. There's still work to be done, but there could be a chance to see Charlotte improve in the Eastern Conference. Especially if they can get Ball back to fortify the offense. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 6, 2025, where it first appeared.
