Chetan Bhagat On Sardaar Ji 3 Row: "I Love Diljit Dosanjh, Saying He Should Get No Work In India Is Very Unfair"

Author Chetan Bhagat has come out in support of Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh, who is in the middle of a raging controversy about the casting of Pakistani star Hania Aamir in his latest film Sardaar Ji 3. The film released in international territories today, skipping an India debut amid India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, a series of retaliatory air strikes by India on Pakistan terror camps. Calls for banning Sardaar Ji 3 and Diljit Dosanjh have strengthened since the trailer, also featuring Hania Aamir, dropped on social media on Sunday. At the NDTV Creators' Manch on Friday, Chetan Bhagat said, "I love Diljit. he is one of the truly exceptionally talented individuals. I admire him. He sticks to his principles. He wanted to be in Bollywood, but he didn't cut his hair... He still became a star. It's not a joke, anyone can get tempted. His music, his concerts, his reels are hilarious." At the event, the author and speaker said banning a film which also belongs to the production crew doesn't make sense. "That film is not Diljit's alone. No film just belongs to the actor. At least 300 people must have worked on the film. Even if you have an issue with Diljit, penalising those people is not fair, so much money has gone into it. Banning a film is too much. You don't like the film, don't watch it. The calls for his boycott are highly unfair." Chetan Bhagat also said, "We don't need to hate anyone to keep our country safe." " Humein Pakistan ke mooh nahin lagna, humein apni country ko safe and secure karna hai (We don't have to engage with Pakistan, we just have to keep our country safe and secure). Look at our level, then look at theirs. We don't need to hate anyone to keep our country safe. If they trouble us, we'll teach them a lesson. Our hate will make them win," he added.

Chetan Bhagat Was Asked About The Most Overrated Book Ever. His Reply

In a self-effacing moment, author and columnist Chetan Bhagat pointed the finger at his own work and himself when he was asked about the most overrated book ever written. Answering rapid-fire questions on the sidelines of NDTV's Creators' Manch on Friday, Mr Bhagat also spoke about the authors he admires, whether AI can replace writers, and why writing in the mountains is not his cup of tea. On the most overrated book ever written, the author was given the option of skipping the question, but he said, "I'm thinking... It's mine. If I say someone else's, I'll get beaten up." "Any specific book?" he was asked, and he replied, "You know, I'm overrated. I'm overrated... It's okay, it's good, but I don't know... the reality is that there are better writers." As the banter continued, Mr Bhagat was asked if there are Indian authors he is jealous of and he said, "Not jealous, but admire. Like Gulzar, Javed Akhtar. There's no question of jealousy; they are very senior. But I really admire them. When I see some of their work, I wish I had done it." Worst Writing Advice? The author, who has been tremendously successful, also said that he looks back at some of his work and thinks he could have done better, even though the books were hits. "My writing has improved. It happens. Once you grow up, you think how stupid you were 10 years ago," he said. Asked about the worst writing advice he has ever heard, the author quipped, "That you need to go away in the mountains and write. No, I can't do that. I need people. I need a city, I need to be able to call an Uber. I can't go to the mountains and write." The author also explained that while artificial intelligence can write non-fiction, it can't generate fiction or something that has any "real emotion" attached to it. "Right now, it's not even close," he said.

Tributes paid to Bhoomaraddi on his 140th birth anniversary at KLTEU in Hubballi

KLE Technological University (KLETU) on Saturday celebrated the 140th birth anniversary of Basappa Veerappa Bhoomaraddi (B.V. Bhoomaraddi), a visionary industrialist and philanthropist, who advocated rural education and community development, on the second day of the techno-cultural festival Pleiades-2025. Celebrated Indian para-athlete and motivational speaker Shalini Saraswathi garlanded the statue of Bhoomaraddi located on the campus of B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology of KLETU. She was accompanied by Pro Chancellor of KLETU Ashok Shettar, Vice-Chancellor Prakash Tewari, Registrar Basavaraj Anami and senior faculty members and also alumni association members in paying tributes to the great philanthropist. Born in 1885 in Bannikoppa village of Koppal district, Bhoomaraddi made remarkable contributions to the socio-educational landscape of North Karnataka. A passionate supporter of rural upliftment, he joined hands with KLE Society in 1946 to establish the B.V. Bhoomaraddi Engineering College in Gadag which was later relocated to Hubballi and went on to evolve as KLE Technological University. After paying tribute, Ms. Saraswathi delivered an inspiring talk to students narrating his story in her own words. Sharing her story of resilience and transformation, she emphasised the need for determination and purpose in life. She also called upon students to not get disheartened by failures but make them a stepping stone to reach their goals. The second day of the techno-cultural festival concluded with a live performance by Bollywood pop sensation and actress Dhvani Bhanushali in the evening. 'Shun distractions' On Friday, inaugurating the three-day techno-cultural fest, author Chetan Bhagat called upon students to stay away from distractions and have self-regulation while using social media. He emphasised the need for students to make long-term efforts to achieve something big. Showing real life examples, he gave several tips to students on how to succeed in their chosen path. He asked students not to allow others to define or decide success for them. 'Instead, you should be able to define to them and decide what is success,' he said. Mr. Bhagat told students that pain, struggle and failure are part of life and none can stay away from them. But through continuous efforts, one can always achieve success, he said. Appeal The techno-cultural festival concludes on Sunday and the university has appealed to the public to visit the campus and experience the vibrant showcase of innovation, creativity and cultural heritage presented by its students.
