Nunez sends Liverpool message with pre-season hat-trick
The Premier League champions stepped up their pre-season preparations with a comfortable win over the Championship club.
Arne Slot's side eased to victory, ahead of flying to Asia for their pre-season tour that includes clashes with AC Milan and Yokohama FM.
There was a first Liverpool appearance for Florian Wirtz, who provided two assists on his debut after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in a British record transfer deal.
Nunez, who scored during Liverpool's first friendly win over Preston North End this month, continued his impressive summer form. The Uruguay international scored three times before the break, with teenager Rio Ngumoha also on target with a deflected strike.
Nunez's goals come amid speculation surrounding his future with the 26-year-old linked with an exit. Several Saudi Pro League sides are interested in the forward, from Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

Linfield fined 12,000 euro after Shelbourne game
Linfield have been fined 12,000 euro by Uefa for two separate incidents in their Champions League qualifier with Shelbourne. The incidents occurred in the second leg against the League of Ireland Premier Division champions at Windsor Park on 16 July. The Irish Premiership champions have been handed a 10,000 euro fine for "racist and/or discriminatory behaviour of its supporters". The Blues have also been handed a partial stadium ban for their next European ban, which is suspended for two years. In addition to that sanction, a further fine of 2,000 euro has been imposed on the club for the lighting of fireworks in the stadium. Crewe sign teenage Stoke striker Tezgel on loan
Crewe Alexandra have signed teenage forward Emre Tezgel on loan from Stoke City. The 19-year-old moves to the Alex for the 2025-26 season having signed a new two-year contract with the Potters last month. Tezgel, who became Stoke's youngest first-team player when he made his debut in an FA Cup tie against Leyton Orient as a 16-year-old in January 2022, has made 23 senior appearances, including 17 across all competitions last term. The move to Crewe is Tezgel's second loan, having spent the second half of 2023-24 in League Two with MK Dons, where he scored three goals in 17 games. Highlights from Day 2 of Bears training camp
The Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall for their second practice of training camp, where there were plenty of notable observations and highlights with new head coach Ben Johnson leading the show. It was another sloppy day for the starting offense on Day 2, where there were was some issues that had to be corrected with huddle procedure and getting lined up. On Wednesday, Johnson notably pulled the starting offense during a 7-on-7 drill when they couldn't line up properly. But there were also some standout players, including rookie running back Kyle Monangai, and some updates with position battles. While it was a closed practice, there were media in attendance, who were able to capture some quick highlights from the second workout.
