Boston Consulting Group Unveils Report on Global Cybersecurity Talent Shortage at Global Cybersecurity Forum 2024
Cybersecurity Workforce Crisis
The report highlights that only 72% of cybersecurity roles are currently filled, leaving organizations vulnerable to rising cyber threats. The global cybersecurity workforce stands at 7.1 million professionals, with Asia-Pacific holding the largest share, while Africa faces severe underrepresentation with fewer than 300,000 professionals.
Amidst this workforce shortage, Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming the cybersecurity landscape, with 70% of organizations already incorporating AI into their cybersecurity frameworks. This shift presents both opportunities and challenges. While AI can help address some workforce gaps, it also introduces new complexities. 58% of cybersecurity leaders express concern about AI-enabled adversarial techniques, such as more sophisticated phishing attacks or automated vulnerability exploitation, which could outpace traditional defenses. To address these evolving challenges, 60% of organizations are focused on continuous training and upskilling, aiming to equip their limited workforce with the skills needed to leverage AI effectively while defending against AI-enhanced threats.
Shoaib Yousuf, Managing Director and Partner at BCG emphasized the GCC's advancements in the face of an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape: 'The region's cybersecurity capabilities have evolved significantly, driven by government initiatives like Saudi Arabia's Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (SCyWF), embedding a strategic focus on capacity building through the recently announced UAE and Qatar national cybersecurity strategies. These initiatives highlight a steadfast commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and safeguarding sensitive data. Through targeted investments, international collaborations, and a proactive planning, the GCC is advancing its cybersecurity landscape and contributing to the evolving standards for a secure global cyberspace. By refining its cybersecurity frameworks and addressing emerging threats head-on, the region is solidifying its position as a global leader in cybersecurity, paving the way for a secure, future-ready digital ecosystem.'
Call to Action: A Roadmap to Success
The report emphasizes the urgent need to attract new talent, especially among underrepresented groups such as women, who comprise just 24% of the cybersecurity workforce globally. To address these challenges and build a future-ready workforce, the report outlines key strategic recommendations:
• Targeted and strategic outreach to underrepresented groups • Embedding cybersecurity into organizational DNA • National & academic campaigns for cybersecurity careers • Building an inclusive, diverse, and supportive culture • Clear career progression and development • Adopting skills-based hiring practices • Expanding the talent pool with inclusive practices • Fostering a culture of lifelong learning • Integrating cybersecurity education from the ground up
• Evolving curriculum to meet industry needs

30 Days, One AI, and $12K Paid Off—Her Debt-Free Journey Goes Viral
A woman in the United States has gained widespread attention for successfully reducing a significant portion of her credit card debt — by turning to artificial intelligence for support and structure. Jennifer Allan, a 35-year-old realtor and content creator from Delaware, turned to AI tools to help manage her personal finances after years of struggling with debt. Faced with mounting bills and poor financial habits, Allan decided to document a 30-day challenge on TikTok, during which she used AI to guide her daily actions aimed at debt repayment. Throughout the month, she explored creative money-saving tips, side hustles, and budgeting techniques suggested by AI. The process included tracking spending, cancelling unnecessary subscriptions, selling items online, and organizing meals using only existing pantry supplies. A key moment in her journey came when she discovered unused financial resources, including an old brokerage account and cash in finance apps she had overlooked — all brought to her attention through AI-driven prompts. These steps significantly boosted her ability to pay off a large chunk of her debt. By the end of the challenge, Allan had paid off over $12,000 of her credit card balance. She has since started a second 30-day round, aiming to eliminate the remainder of her debt. Reflecting on the experience, she emphasized that the transformation wasn't due to a financial loophole, but rather the mindset shift that came from confronting her finances head-on. She credits the daily discipline, transparency, and public accountability for empowering her to take control of her situation. Her story has resonated with millions online, particularly at a time when household debt in the US continues to rise. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, total household debt reached $18.2 trillion in the first quarter of 2025. Allan's story stands out as an example of how emerging technologies, when used with consistency and intent, can support personal growth and financial responsibility.

Ashura, repatriation and GCC prep dominate Cabinet
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday, guiding national efforts on three critical fronts - Ashura preparations, crisis response, and the upcoming GCC summit in December. Unity through coordination The Cabinet began its session at Gudaibiya Palace by reviewing the measures taken by authorities to implement the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the organisation of Ashura. The meeting reaffirmed that openness, tolerance, and unity remain the core values of Bahraini society. Cabinet members emphasised that religious occasions such as Ashura are opportunities to strengthen national cohesion. They welcomed the outcomes of the annual meeting between the Minister of Interior and the General Authority of Husseini Processions, along with ma'atam officials from across the Kingdom. GCC summit preparations Following the royal directives, the Cabinet instructed all relevant ministries to begin coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare for the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council, which will be hosted in Bahrain this December. The Cabinet expressed confidence that the summit would further strengthen Gulf cooperation and support initiatives that benefit all citizens of the region. Crisis response praised The Cabinet also welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other authorities in facilitating the safe return of Bahraini citizens stranded abroad during last week's regional escalation. The operation followed the directives of His Majesty the King and the order of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Gratitude was extended to diplomatic missions of GCC and allied countries whose cooperation contributed to the success of the repatriation efforts. Strategic focus In light of the summer period, the Cabinet approved a temporary shift to a bi-weekly meeting schedule for July and August. This adjustment allows more targeted follow-up on national priorities and international engagements. The Cabinet also reviewed and approved several memorandums, including developments under the Government Priorities Framework 4.0, a transfer of Bahrain's share in the Bahrain Agriculture Development Company to Mumtalakat, trade protection measures within the GCC, and the results of national examinations for ninth and twelfth grades.
