Brewers place rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski on injured list as rotation takes a hit
Misiorowski went on the 15-day IL with a left tibia contusion, retroactive to Thursday.
The 23-year-old righty had been slated to pitch Sunday against the Nationals, but he was replaced by Triple-a call-up Logan Henderson.
'We noticed during the week — really, our pitching guys noticed during the week — that the throwing programs and the bullpen, something wasn't right,' Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy said Sunday. 'We wanted to be smart about taking care of the kid.

'He's got a big future … and he'll try to push through it because he's young. We want to keep him from making those types of decisions unless we know he's 100 percent.'
The hard-throwing Misiorowski went 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA over his first five outings and was controversially named as a replacement for the NL All-Star squad.
He worked a scoreless inning in the Midsummer Classic, which finished in a 6-6 tie before a home run swing-off determined a winner.
Misiorowski, who has lowered his ERA to 2.70 in two no-decisions since the All-Star break, was struck on the left shin on a liner off the bat of Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki in his last start Thursday.

Misiorowski's shutdown comes two days after first-place Milwaukee also had placed outfielder Jackson Chourio on the injured list with a strained right hamstring.
'I mean, I'm competitive,' Misiorowski said. 'I want to play every game, so … it sucks. It's not fun to sit on the bench, but at the same time, I don't want to go out there and not have my best stuff [when I'm] trying to win for the team. So if the best is me sitting on the bench, then that's what we got to do.
'It was basically like, 'This is what it's going to be.' Obviously I was trying to fight it a little bit, trying to throw, but I understand. And you know they're looking out for me.'

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber Projected to Break Bank With Free Agent Contract
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Kyle Schwarber has become indispensable for the Philadelphia Phillies, and that's something that will weigh heavy on the team's mind this winter. After one more push for the Phillies' first World Series title since 2008, Schwarber is set to hit free agency. After landing a four-year, $79 million deal from Philadelphia before the 2022 season, he looks poised to do far better this time around. With 169 homers in a Phillies uniform (second-most in baseball behind Aaron Judge since 2022), Schwarber is such a power threat that even as a primary designated hitter approaching his mid-thirties, he should command a nine-figure deal. The Phillies defeated the Yankees 12-5. (Photo by) More McIsaac/Getty How far into the hundreds of millions will Schwarber push? And more importantly, will it be the Phillies to give him his well-earned contract? On Monday, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller predicted that Philadelphia would indeed step up, projecting a four-year, $140 million contract for Schwarber to remain a Phillie through 2029. "Bryce Harper has been quite vocal in his opinion that the Phillies should re-sign Schwarber this offseason. Do they have room in the budget, though? While simultaneously trying to deal with the impending losses of JT Realmuto and Ranger Suárez?" asked Miller. "As vitally important as he has been to their cause this season, they almost have to find a way. Maybe they borrow a page from the Dodgers' deferrals playbook to get it done, but there should be many more Schwarbombs in Citizens Bank Park for what's left of the 2020s." Schwarber has been the Phillies' best hitter this season, posting a .957 OPS while leading the National League in home runs with 38 and all of Major League Baseball in RBI with 88. That's the type of production you can't replace, and it would be surprising to see the Phillies let it slip from their grasp. Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly had 'some very real conversations' with Bucks about unsettled future
Until Giannis Antetokounmpo clearly, definitively says, "I will be a Milwaukee Buck next season," the speculation about his future will not stop. The Knicks' decision to extend Mikal Bridges — making him unavailable for trade for six months, something they would not have done if they believed Antetokounmpo would be available this summer — has not slowed the rumors. Even if the Greek Freak came out today and said he was staying put on social media, the rumors would not stop. That speculation continued on Monday when Shams Charania appeared on ESPN's Get Up. "Sources tell me there's still nothing set in stone about whether Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay in Milwaukee or whether he will be leaving. And so, he's going to continue to evaluate his been some very real conversations over the past week or so. The constant question that Giannis has though is, 'Can I win a championship with this roster? Is this roster going to be one for this upcoming year and 2026-2027?' He wants to win a second championship... "This is a very tough decision for him. This is 12 years he's spent there. There's a lot of equity there." Antetokounmpo's only public comments on the situation had him suggesting he is likely to stay: "Probably. Probably, we'll see. Probably, I love Milwaukee." Those comments came after the Bucks made a bold move to show Antetokounmpo how committed they are to winning, stretching-and-waiving the injured Damian Lillard to get an upgrade at center in Myles Turner. While the Bucks still seem one player away (unless Khris Middleton can regain his All-Star/Olympian form), Antetokounmpo has to ask himself if the other teams he might jump to really get him closer to a ring? If he moves to a team in the West such as Golden State (a team rumored to have interest), he will have to run a gauntlet of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the defending champion Thunder (bringing everyone back from a 68-win team), Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, Kevin Durant and the Rockets, Anthony Edwards and the Mavericks, LeBron James and Luka Doncic with the Lakers, and the list goes on and on. Jumping to a team in the East creates its own problems. Go to New York and the cost of adding Antetokounmpo would gut the roster of the depth that makes them a contender (again, Mikal Bridges is off the table until at least the trade deadline, plus the Knicks don't have nearly enough remaining draft picks to entice Milwaukee). A trade to Miami would create the same depth issue, plus the Heat also do not have enough draft picks. Cleveland is over the second apron and doesn't have the needed massive salary to make an Antetokounmpo trade. The list goes on and on. Whatever Antetokounmpo thinks of the Bucks roster and chances, it may be the best of his options, and it remains a place where he has strong ties to the community, where his family is established and happy. There are good reasons for Antetokounmpo to say he "probably" will be back in Milwaukee. But until he takes the qualifying "probably" out of his statement, the speculation will continue.

Lions hooker Dan Sheehan suspended for four matches after reckless ruck clearout
SYDNEY (AP) — British and Irish Lions hooker Dan Sheehan was suspended for four matches on Monday for his illegal ruck clearout of Australia's Tom Lynagh at the weekend. Sheehan was cited for charging into a ruck and hitting Lynagh's head on Saturday in the third test won by the Wallabies 22-12 in Sydney. At his disciplinary hearing, Sheehan disagreed that foul play occurred. But the panel found it was reckless with a high degree of danger. The panel suspended him from four Leinster club matches in September and October, but allowed him to be available for the fourth match if he completed World Rugby's tackle school. ___
