Hot sandwiches hit the menu at A.P Bakery's shiny new site

Tucked into the base of the Quay Quarter Tower, A.P Quay is the second All Purpose Bakery location to open this year (and the seventh overall), after chef Mat Lindsay, baker Dougal Muffet and hotelier Russell Beard launched Darlinghurst's A.P Bread and Wine in January.
Croissants and assorted breads are made on site at the Circular Quay shop, but it's the hot sandwiches, made from meats cooked on gleaming imported French spits, that have people most excited.
The big three drawcards from the spit are the BBQ spice-rubbed spatchcock, fennel seed and garlic-rolled porchetta and the pastrami-brined beef, but the full sandwich menu runs much longer, with baguettes, brekkie rolls and toasties. Turn it into a proper lunch with sides like chicken liver and brioche stuffing, rotisserie drip potatoes and Korean carrot salad.

Loulou Bistro opens at Martin Place with a steak frites sandwich and happy-hour snails

During weekday happy hour (4-7pm) there will be $2 escargots and oysters, while the lunch and dinner carte lists Toulouse sausage with pomme puree, a mushroom and truffle vol-au-vent, seafood platters and French onion soup. Steak frites are having a bigger moment than usual in the CBD, with 24 York opening on July 23 and taking inspiration from Le Relais de l'Entrecote in France, which has successfully leant on the dish for more than half a century. Bouillon l'Entrecote at Circular Quay is another go-to venue for French-style steak and chips. 'Our focus won't be on steak,' says Parker of the opening menu at Loulou Martin Place. However, with steak frites one of the best sellers at the Milsons Point restaurant, it still features on the menu, along with a version encased in a baguette. 'We want to bring that feeling of a neighbourhood restaurant across to the city,' says Parker said. Plans are underway for the brand's further expansion, too. Later this year, a fast version of Loulou Bistro will open at the Qantas Domestic Terminal at Sydney Airport.

Parents buy their adult sons a $1 million inner west pad at auction

A mum and dad paid $1,088,000 at auction on Saturday for an apartment in Forest Lodge that their two adult sons will live in. The two-bedroom property at 3/276 Bridge Road was guided at $950,000 and the reserve was set at $1 million. There is no legal requirement for a vendor's reserve to be in line with their property's price guide. There were four registered bidders and three took part. Bidding opened at $975,000 and rose in varying increments. The property was one of 479 scheduled to go to auction in Sydney on Saturday. The top-floor unit is located in a boutique block and features timber floors, decorative fireplaces and French doors that lead out to a balcony. The buyers sold the family home in Stanmore and recently bought in Kangaroo Valley. Their sons, both in their twenties, will live in the Forest Lodge unit and pay off the mortgage. 'It's so hard for young people to get on the property ladder,' the boys' mother said after the auction. 'The boys acknowledge that they're incredibly lucky.' The parents outbid a first home buyer couple from the inner city. Records show the property last sold for $812,000 in 2018.
