Caitlin Clark rookie cards likely to break women's sports card record sale go to auction
Both cards are expected to eclipse the March sale of a different one-of-a-kind Clark card, her 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Signatures Gold Vinyl autograph rookie card, which went for $366,000 through Goldin Auctions. That sale set a record for the most expensive women's sports card ever.
A few key elements set the Rookie Royalty one-of-ones apart from the Prizm card, though. The autograph on the Flawless and Immaculate cards are directly on the card — this is far more desirable to collectors than autographed stickers that are placed on cards, which is what the Prizm card has. In addition, the Flawless and Immaculate cards also feature the WNBA 'Logowoman' patch from Indiana Fever jerseys. Even though they're from jerseys that weren't personally worn by Clark, league logo patches command a premium in cards. Clark also inscribed the Flawless card with '769 pts and counting.' This refers to how many points she scored during her 2024 campaign in which she won the WNBA rookie of the year award. The Immaculate card is inscribed with 'ROY 24' to signify Clark's rookie of the year honors.

Kevin Lenane, Fanatics Collect's vice president of marketplace, said the consignor pulled the Clark card from a 2024 Panini Rookie Royalty box sold privately, rather than an online live box break stream, which is how the Immaculate card was found.
'The story is really about women's cards in the hobby. It's just remarkable, the path of this,' Lenane said. 'It's without a doubt, the No. 1 card she has. Given that this (gold) vinyl sticker Prizm sold for $366,000, I am positive it will sell for more. How much? I don't know. I would think it's pretty hefty. And so it'll just be a big moment for women in the hobby and women's cards featuring women in the hobby. The trajectory of that has really been just buoyed by Caitlin Clark, to be frank.'
Lenane said he's pretty conservative when giving estimates to potential consignors of cards, admitting he provided an estimate lower than the eventual $1.1 million price the 11-year-old boy landed for the Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch autographed one-of-one card from the 2024 Topps Chrome Update set.
The fact he's so bullish about this Clark card points to this being the biggest Clark card ever consigned to Fanatics Collect. Goldin Auctions seemingly owned the Clark secondary card auction market, having sold the top 10 most expensive Clark cards on the secondary market, according to Market Movers — an online card sales database.

The Flawless and Immaculate brands typically stand as two of Panini's top high-end products, meaning the cards from those sets command some of the highest price tags for collectors to buy on the secondary market. Flawless and Immaculate have traditionally been a stand-alone sets, but Panini inserted the brands and other high-end company labels like National Treasures and Noir within the Rookie Royalty boxes. That means there is also a similar one-of-a-kind National Treasures Clark Logowoman autographed card in Rookie Royalty, too. This wasn't the only part of the unusual set up.
Panini launched its Dutch auction for the boxes containing two cards starting at $30,000. Most boxes sold for around $4,000, though. Each box includes just two cards and is guaranteed to contain an on-card autograph of either Clark or Angel Reese and a Downtown or Kaboom insert of one of 12 players (including Clark and Reese).
Regardless of Panini's methods for the Rookie Royalty boxes, the Clark one-of-a-kind Flawless and Immaculate cards would be two of the most sought after cards in any set in any sport this year.
'From our side, it's just this amazing card,' Lenane said. 'We're auctioning it. I just think it's really interesting and kind of like a moment. In the WNBA, it's just the card everyone's looking for.'

Clark returned to action Wednesday after missing the previous five games with a groin injury. She scored 10 points during the Fever's loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. This was Clark's second extended absence this season after missing another five games in early June with a calf injury.

Opportunity in Washington helped Mystics rookies Citron and Iriafen become WNBA All-Stars
WASHINGTON — When Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen were drafted by a rebuilding Washington team, it was clear they'd have a chance to make a quick impact. It turned out to be a historic one. Citron and Iriafen were both WNBA All-Stars last weekend , becoming the first pair of rookie teammates to achieve that since 1999. Their inclusion was an acknowledgement of how quickly they've established themselves in the league — and the way they've helped improve the Mystics' outlook. 'From the beginning, Slim (guard Brittney Sykes) told me like, 'You're not a rookie. We drafted you for a reason, we drafted Kiki for a reason, so you guys just go out and do what you do,'' Citron said. That's not something rookies — even first-round picks like Citron and Iriafen — can take for granted. The WNBA is a famously tough league to break into. For every immediate rookie star like Paige Bueckers, there's another high pick facing a slower adjustment timeline. Bueckers, Citron and Iriafen were all All-Stars, the first time three rookies made it since 2011. But they're the only rookies averaging over 10 points per game this year. Some of that comes down to opportunity. After finishing 14-26 last year, Washington brought in Jamila Wideman as its general manager and Sydney Johnson as its coach. Then the Mystics took Citron out of Notre Dame with the third pick in the draft and Iriafen out of Southern California with the next pick. Having both become All-Stars was pretty much the best-case scenario. Especially since both had a chance to go to Indiana and spend time with some of the game's biggest stars. 'I think there's another couple of jumps that they're looking to take, and I think they were rubbing elbows with some of those players that they aspire to be like, to outperform,' Johnson said. The 6-foot-3 Iriafen scored 17 points in the game and Citron, a 6-1 guard, added 11. Citron also took part in the 3-point contest — and the winner, Sabrina Ionescu, said she'd give half her winnings to the Washington rookie. Johnson said observing how players like Ionescu go about their business is valuable. 'Sabrina put on a show with the 3-point contest. Sonia knows how good of a shooter she is — Sonia is — and then you look, and there's like a whole other level there with Sabrina,' Johnson said. 'That's respecting Sonia, but that's calling it what it is. Just seeing pro habits, how they approach the game, how competitive they are, how they're on all the time.' Now the challenge for Citron and Iriafen is to maintain their level of production. Citron is averaging 13.8 points per game, second on the team behind Sykes, another Washington All-Star. Iriafen is averaging 12 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds. They won't be sneaking up on anyone after being named All-Stars. In the first game back from the break, Washington lost to Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Citron was held to seven points, but Iriafen contributed 13. 'Not being one-dimensional, and finding different ways to impact the game,' Iriafen said of her challenge the rest of the way. 'Maybe it is scoring, maybe it's being more of a defensive threat. Just not relying on what I did in the first half, and just continuing to get better.' The Mystics (11-12) were in eighth place entering Thursday's action, a half-game ahead of expansion Golden State (10-12) and not far behind Las Vegas (12-11) and Indiana (12-12). The loss to the Sparks was the start of a five-game homestand that could be crucial to Washington's postseason hopes. The Mystics won the 2019 championship but haven't posted a winning record since 2022 and have missed the playoffs the last two years. Whatever the stretch run has in store, Washington can look forward to the future after what the Mystics have seen from their rookie All-Star duo. 'I think it's amazing,' Citron said. 'I think me and Kiki work really hard, and it's just cool that people are seeing that.' ___ AP WNBA:

Albion Rovers boss knows what to expect from Cumbernauld Colts after club raided them for players this summer
Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark says he will know what to expect from Saturday's Lowland League opener with Cumbernauld Colts - because their local rivals raided them for players over the summer. Colts snapped up a trio of stars from Rovers in the close season with right-backs Callum Home and Adam Fernie making the move from Monklands alongside forward Billy Mortimer. New Colts striker Josh Jack is also a former Rovers player. So with a derby to kick-off their new Lowland League campaign, Clark will be very familiar with some of the threats the visitors will pose. READ MORE: British teen falls to death at Ibiza Rocks hotel two weeks after Scots tourist died READ MORE: Rangers legend Paul Gascoigne 'rushed to intensive care unit' after collapsing at home Asked what he is expecting from Colts, Clark said: 'I'm expecting to know a lot of their players! Some of them have certainly played here. I think they will be a little bit more experienced than us. 'Will they be better? I have no idea, time will tell. Will we give them a game? 100 per cent, we will give them a game alright and on the day, it will be a case of may the best team win. 'At training we try to replicate match situations as best we can, so we've had a good bit of time to prepare. This week we will really concentrate on Cumbernauld Colts and I'm sure we will be ready for that.' Rovers warmed up for that clash with a 3-2 friendly defeat at home to St Mirren B on Saturday. Nathan Brown and club captain Alan Reid were on target for the hosts against the Premiership youth outfit and Clark was disappointed with his side's defending at the Buddies' goals. Reacting to the result, Clark told the club media: 'We worked well. We are trying to rebuild the squad and it was a good challenge for us. Playing St Mirren B was like when we play Hearts B and Celtic B in league games, with their players passing the ball really well, they are fit, they are full-time, they are organised. 'So that's where the real challenge came from and I thought we handled it fairly well. If you look at the game, we've lost a goal inside 30 seconds, which is really poor play from us. 'We didn't stop the cross and our lads are saying it might have been offside, but at the end of the day their striker got in between our two defenders and it was a good header. 'We reacted well to it, got back into the game and made it 1-1, but then we lost a second goal from a header in the box again. So there is a warning there that we need to stop crosses and pick up players better. 'We lost our way a bit at that point and St Mirren got their third goal. Nathan Brown got us back into it with a good goal to make it 3-2 at half-time, but I felt we were the better team in the second half. 'We scored a really good goal that I felt was well onside but the officials didn't see it that way. 'We had some other chances, we stopped St Mirren playing, our press was better and what we got out of it in the end was a lot of fitness for certain players and I got a good look at the trialists. Our squad will be much clearer by Saturday.' Kick-off at Cliftonhill on Saturday is 3pm. Albion Rovers have snapped up goalkeeper Alfie Halliwell on loan from Rangers as they prepare to kick-off the new Lowland League season on Saturday. Cliftonhill gaffer Sandy Clark has added are the Scotland Youth International to his ranks and the teenager made his first outing for the Monklands men in Saturday's 3-2 friendly defeat to St Mirren B. The 17-year-old shot-stopper rose through the ranks at the Ibrox-based side, featuring in the Rangers B squad that lifted the Glasgow Cup, as well as training with the Rangers First Team squad on occasion, working alongside former Stoke City and Manchester Utd goalkeeper Jack Butland and former QPR and Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly. On the international stage, Alfie has two caps for the Scotland Men's U17s, making his debut in an international friendly away to Switzerland and was recently called up to a U19s training camp at the end of last season. Halliwell said: 'It feels really good and I am really excited for the season. 'Once I spoke to Sandy, I really wanted to play under him. Both him and George [Paterson] are really experienced in the game. 'I'm here to keep the ball out the back of the net. I am a young player that wants to play in men's football.'
