Assam Rifles, Police seize brown sugar, illegal areca nuts in coordinated ops
According to a release, the operation led to the apprehension of two individuals suspected to be involved in illegal narcotics activities. During the operation, 38 soap cases containing brown sugar were recovered.
As per the release, the total weight of the seized narcotics is approximately 442 grams with an estimated value of Rs 89.40 lakhs. This successful joint operation reflects the steadfast commitment of Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in combating the drug menace and maintaining peace and security in the region.
Meanwhile, based on specific intelligence Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force recovered 327 bags of illegal Areca Nuts worth 1.83 crores on Monday that had been dumped and concealed in the jungle near Chhungte village in Champhai district, an official statement said.
The recovered contraband was subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Earlier, as well Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, seized illegal areca nut valued at Rs 1.02 crore from Tlangsam in Mizoram's Champhai district, the statement added.
According to a release, acting on specific intelligence of the movement of Illegal Areca Nuts in the general area of Tlangsam, Champhai, Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, launched an Area Domination Patrol towards Tlangsam village on May 2.
During the operation, 187 bags of illegal Areca nuts were found concealed in a truck. During the operation, one individual was also apprehended. The recovered contraband, along with the person and the vehicle, have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, the release stated. (ANI)

Udupi senior citizen duped of Rs 1.59 lakh while trying to cancel online subscription
UDUPI: An elderly resident lost nearly Rs 1.59 lakh in an online scam after attempting to cancel his Jio Hotstar subscription through a helpline number he found on Google . The complainant, Lokanath Bangera, 68, a resident of Kutpadi, stated that the incident took place on Saturday when he was at home and tried to cancel his Jio Hotstar subscription. He searched for the helpline number on Google. When he called a number, an unknown person redirected the call to another number. The complainant informed the person that he wished to cancel his subscription. He alleged that the fraudster then obtained the complainant's Google Pay details and, without his knowledge, accessed OTPs and fraudulently transferred Rs 99,500 and Rs 60,000 from two bank accounts. A case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.

Ludhiana firing linked to California gangster; 2 held, Rs 50 lakh extortion call probed
LUDHIANA: As Ludhiana rural police arrested two sharpshooters for firing at a hardware store owner at Rumi near Jagraon and suspected the involvement of a California-based gangster in the case, the police on Sunday confirmed that Pavittar Singh Batala has been named in the case. Police officials shared that Pavittar Singh, who is allegedly linked with Babbar Khalsa International and is wanted by the National Investigating Agency (NIA), was among eight arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as part of raids against an international terror network in the United States recently. On January 18 evening, Ludhiana rural police disclosed that they captured 23-year-old Nanak Ram of Anandana village in Sangrur and Deepu Singh of Chatha Govindpur, both accused of firing at Jatinder Singh , a hardware dealer at Rumi village near Jagraon, on July 5. SSP Ludhiana rural, Dr Ankur Gupta, confirmed that Pavittar Singh has been named as an accused in the case. He suggested that the caller, who called the store owner of Rumi two days after firing on him, introduced himself as Pavittar Singh Batala while making the extortion call. The police official maintained that as per the preliminary probe, Pavittar Singh Batala might have hired two sharpshooters, arrested recently by Ludhiana rural police, through Serbia-based Lovepreet Singh Lovely, who belongs to Hariau Khurd in the Batala area. He added that they suspect the involvement of Rupinder Singh, a US-based brother-in-law of shopkeeper Jatinder Singh, from Tarewal in Moga, who blames the latter for his divorce from his sister. Police sources said that Rupinder is an NRI in the US and is a rich person with contacts. They added that Rupinder also faces allegations of giving a contract to contract killers for getting his brother-in-law Jatinder killed in 2019 and was also named in two more FIRs lodged by the shopkeeper and his family in January and July this year. Meanwhile, SSP Ludhiana rural said that one of the sharpshooters, Nanak Ram, has three cases against him, including a liquor peddling case.
