Lebanese Politician Richard Riachi: Syria Has Been Hijacked by Turkey, Israel, America, Everybody; Some People Deserve Having Barrel Bombs Dropped on Them

Memri21-07-2025
Lebanese politician Richard Riachi of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) said in a July 9, 2025 show on Tele Liban (Lebanon) that Syria has been 'hijacked' by Turkey, Israel, America, and 'everybody.' He said that Turkish flags were waved over the Citadel of Aleppo and cited a Turkish MP who said: 'Aleppo is ours and we are taking it.
When Mohamad Barakat, a Lebanese journalist also on the panel, remarked that flags are better than barrel bombs, Riachi responded that some people 'deserve' to have barrel bombs dropped on them, adding that these people aren't really Syrians but rather Uzbeks and Pakistanis.

Iraq holds Turkiye ‘fully responsible' for water shortage

Shafaq News – Baghdad Ankara has yet to respond to Baghdad's offer of major economic incentives, including expanded trade and electricity fuel imports, in exchange for increased water releases into Iraq, the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee warned on Thursday. Committee Chairman Faleh al-Khazali told Shafaq News that 'the Turkish side has not replied despite 136 Turkish incursions and four military bases inside Iraqi territory,' questioning Ankara's seriousness in addressing the water crisis. Al-Khazali cautioned of 'grave consequences' if water shortages persist, saying the crisis could threaten social stability in central and southern provinces, while holding Turkiye 'fully responsible' if it fails to raise water flows. Iraq, according to the lawmaker, needs at least 800 cubic meters per second of water, while current Turkish releases are no more than 350 cubic meters per second and could fall to 300. 'This is insufficient to meet even the minimum demand,' he warned, adding that Baghdad's main water treatment plants risk going offline without a fair share of water. Turkiye had announced a partial increase in water flows earlier this month, raising the rate on the Tigris River to 420 cubic meters per second following a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani in Ankara. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani later confirmed that both Turkiye and Syria had agreed to boost water releases to Iraq. He said Turkiye would release 320 cubic meters per second to Mosul Dam and 350 cubic meters through the Iraqi-Syrian border, measures he described as essential to easing shortages in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Hizbullah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem: Even If Israel Kills Us All, It Will Never Defeat Us or Take Lebanon Hostage; Hizbullah Hasn't Retaliated for Israeli Attacks Because This Is Now the Go

Hizbullah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem said in his July 30, 2025 address aired on Al-Araby TV (Qatar) that the ceasefire agreement with Israel applies only to the area south of the Litani River. He stated that the issue of Hizbullah's weapons is an internal Lebanese matter and has nothing to do with Israel. Qassem said Israel has been spreading claims that Hizbullah is weak because it has avoided retaliating during the ceasefire. He explained that the Lebanese government is now responsible for addressing Israeli violations of the ceasefire, and therefore Hizbullah is no longer obliged to confront Israel on behalf of everyone else. He declared that even if Israel kills every last member of Hizbullah, it will still not be able to defeat them or take Lebanon hostage.

On Army National Day: Lebanese President calls for Hezbollah disarmament

Shafaq News - Beirut Lebanese President Joseph Aoun urged, on Thursday, Hezbollah to hand over weapons to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), calling for an end to the cycle of violence in the country. 'Hezbollah and other political parties must support placing all weapons under the exclusive authority of the army,' he noted on the occasion of Army National Day, framing the move as essential to liberating Lebanese territory and building a functioning state. While calling on all Lebanese to unite behind the army, he pledged its loyalty and full support exclusively to the state. 'Our army has extended control over the south up to the Litani River and remains determined to restore full sovereignty across Lebanon,' he stated. Aoun criticized Israel for blocking the return of displaced residents to southern villages and hindering reconstruction efforts, calling simultaneously for an immediate halt to hostilities, withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the release of Lebanese prisoners. He also disclosed that the United States presented Lebanon with a draft proposal aimed at easing regional tensions, which Lebanon amended significantly before submitting it to the cabinet. On Wednesday, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem defended the group's combined approach of armed resistance and political engagement, describing both as 'inseparable pillars' of its identity. He also emphasized Hezbollah's role as a 'core element' of Lebanon's national defense alongside the army and the people.
