History made in Liverpool Legends game with two Chelsea players crunched seconds later
The ex-England international's legacy on Merseyside is already secure, with the retired striker having represented both the Reds and neighbors Everton during her glittering career. During her time wearing the colors of the red half of the city, she won successive Women's Super League titles in 2013 and 2014.
Across two spells with the Merseyside giant, Dowie became Liverpool Women's all-time leading goalscorer to write her name into the history books. Having made her entrance during the charity legends game against Chelsea as a first-half substitute, she wasted no time in rolling back the years as she replaced Momo Sissoko on the field.

Introduced wearing the No. 9 by manager Sir Kenny Dalglish, she was cheered by the Kop as she became the first woman to take part in the annual legends fixture at Anfield. Just moments after being sent on, she then proceeded to tackle Claude Makelele, who was left writhing in pain following the tackle.
The challenge led to a free-kick being given against the Reds on the edge of their opponents' box, as the Frenchman hobbled away in front of the Anfield Road end. From there, the 36-year-old ex-forward also tackled Chelsea's Ramires, who also was floored by the lunge - this time in the middle of the park.
The home faithful showed their appreciation for the attacker's unwavering efforts, as she showed her competitive nature by winning the ball back for her side. After the interception on the Brazilian, Dowie then showed her ability to link the play as she got the ball out of her feet before setting Liverpool up on the attack.
Coming into the game at Anfield, the 14-time international spoke of her pride as she prepared to take to the field alongside ex-Reds skippers Gerrard and Sami Hyypia, as well as Kop favorites Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt. She told the club's official website: "It's so exciting for us to include female players in this year's legends game.
"We're the first to do this at club level, we are pioneers, and it's a big thing for young girls and boys to see this happening," the club ambassador continued.
Speaking at a press conference before the clash with Chelsea's legends side - which includes names such as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Dennis Wise and Gianfranco Zola - she said: "Thank you to the Foundation for making this happen. I think it's a big moment for the club to be the first to involve a woman within the game. Hopefully it will inspire lots of young girls and boys.
'I wasn't able to play football at primary school or secondary school; girls weren't allowed to play football. For me to be in this position as the first female ambassador of the club, my task is to always try and be the first, the first to play in a legends game, but hopefully not the last as well. So yes, selfishly, it's incredible. I can't wait.
'I've got all my friends and family coming up," she confirmed. "But I'm doing this not just for myself, but you know 5, 10, 15 years' time, hopefully this can be the next thing and this can be something that we collaborate on again."

Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool have sent message to Alexander Isak
Liverpool have FAILED in their first official bid for Alexander Isak. A bid - reported to be in the region of £120m - was sent to Newcastle for the Swedish striker but was quickly knocked back. Isak is under contract at St. James' Park until 2028 but it would be surprising if he remains there beyond this summer. 🔴 Shop the LFC Store 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Liverpool are well aware that Isak wants the move - although it was reported on Friday that the club would indeed take Newcastle's first 'No' for an answer. Fabrizio Romano: Rejected bid is part of the game That stance contradicts what Fabrizio Romano has heard however. The Italian transfer supremo FULLY expects Liverpool to be back with another bid. There is ample time - both for Liverpool to complete a deal for Isak and Newcastle to sign a replacement. 'Liverpool know that this is part of the game,' Romano told his YouTube audience. 'It's still beginning of August. There's still plenty of time to go before the end of the transfer window.' Liverpool's bid a MESSAGE to Isak The bid was confirmation if it were needed that Liverpool consider Isak a priority target. It was, according to Romano, conceived as a MESSAGE to Isak. Liverpool wanted to show the Newcastle No14 that their interest was genuine - and that they were going to do whatever it takes to deliver this signing. 'Liverpool wanted to show to the player: 'Okay, we are really ready.' That's not just an informal conversation. That's not just a verbal proposal. It's an official bid,' Romano states.

England three down and needing 210 more runs to beat India at the Oval
LONDON (AP) — India removed England's Ben Duckett and stand-in captain Ollie Pope to effectively be six wickets from tying the series on day four Sunday of the fifth test at the Oval. England, absent the injured allrounder Chris Woakes, was 164-3 at lunch in pursuit of 374 to win the test and clinch the series 3-1. Harry Brook was 38 not out with Joe Root on 23 and England needing 210 more runs. Root survived an umpire's call on 3 and Brook should have been out on 19 but Mohammed Siraj, with ball in hand, stumbled back on to the boundary cushion. The odds remained in India's favor despite England's history of gunning down big targets. England resumed the day on 50-1 and scored only 37 runs in the first hour as the India seamers got the ball to nip around under London's grey skies. Ben Duckett, who lost his opening partner Zak Crawley to the last ball on Saturday, was uncharacteristically subdued, possibly still bothered by the hit on his glove by Prasidh Krishna late Saturday. He still reached his fourth fifty of the series, though, with an edged four past gully. But the pressure from Siraj and Akash Deep tempted him to go after Krishna and give up his wicket by edging to Lokesh Rahul at first slip. Duckett scored 54 off 83 balls. The Oval lights came on and Root was under fire, notably from Krishna, who unsuccessfully appealed for lbw. Reviews showed the ball clipping leg stump. Pope unleashed three boundaries in an over against Krishna but his second innings troubles returned when he was out to a Siraj nip-backer. Pope averages 46.69 in first innings but 19.64 in second innings. His 27 was his second highest score in a fourth innings. Siraj's 20th wicket made him the leading wicket-taker in the series. Brook joined Root and was dropped on 19 off Krishna by Siraj on the boundary. Brook rubbed salt into the wound by smacking 16 runs off the over. About 20 minutes later when lunch arrived, a still sorry Siraj pointedly walked over to Krishna to give him a hug. ___ AP cricket:
