Emma Raducanu needs a permanent coach and I cannot commit to it
The 22-year-old reached the third round at Wimbledon after knocking out Mimi Xu and former champion Marketa Vondrousova before giving world number one Aryna Sabalenka a scare in a narrow 7-6 (6) 6-4 defeat.
But Petchey insists his TV commentating commitments mean he cannot take on the role full-time.
'I think at the moment we are a bit more short term,' he told the Nothing Ventured podcast.
'She's practising this week in London and her next tournament is Washington, and she'll stay in the States the whole time.
'Our situation is a little fluid at the moment. I am going to help her this week as much as I can, I have some other commitments I can't get out of.
'We are very aware she needs a second coach to come on board and maybe just one coach, not me, as well.
'All I am trying to do is facilitate the best possible environment for Emma to produce the tennis she can.
'Whether that involves me or does not involve me is not a question that I'm worried about. We are just trying to find something that will be stable or good for her.'

The Sabalenka match thrilled a late-night Centre Court crowd and offered more encouragement that Raducanu can return to the level which carried her to the US Open title in 2021.
'It was a great tennis match,' added Petchey, 54. 'It's been pretty positive from a point of view you can reflect on the fact the match was great, and get feedback from people talking about it.
'I've sought out opinions from people I respect in the industry, coaches, asking them what they felt about the match and what she could have done better and that gives you a chance to formulate a plan going forward for this week and in the future.'

Blair Kinghorn could feature in Lions tour despite knee injury
Blair Kinghorn could yet be involved in the British and Irish Lions' series against Australia after a scan revealed the Scotland full-back's knee injury is not as bad as first feared. Kinghorn limped off in the 25th minute of Wednesday's 36-24 victory over the ACT Brumbies in a setback that threatened to stretch the Lions' playing resources at 15 following Elliot Daly's return home with a fractured forearm. But the tourists have issued a positive update stating their medical team will 'manage his return to training over the coming days,' although they have declined to provide any further details on when he is expected to resume playing. Jamie Osborne has been called up from Ireland's tour of Portugal to provide additional training cover and will arrive in Brisbane this weekend ahead of the first Test against the Wallabies on July 19.

Man Utd confirm plan for new signing as third transfer of summer confirmed
Manchester United have confirmed their third transfer of the summer after already adding Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon to their squad as Ruben Amorim attempts to turnaround the club Manchester United have confirmed their plan for third summer signing Enzo Kana-Biyik, as the teenage star immediately departs the club. The Red Devils announced the signing of their newest star but highlighted he would join Lausanne-Sport of the Swiss Super League on loan after signing his contract. Kana-Biyik, 18, is said to have signed a long-term deal after being courted by a host of sides including PSG, Chelsea and Monaco. The forward joins on a free transfer after seeing his contract with Le Havre end. The France youth international twice earned a place among the club's substitutes, in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. Kana-Biyik scored nine goals in 18 appearances for the side's under-19s. "Everyone at United would like to welcome Enzo to the club and wish him the very best of luck for his loan," United said in a statement. The Premier League side want the youngster to earn more experience before being introduced to the first team and British football. The move to Lausanne-Sport sees Kana-Biyik join a club owned by INEOS. United have already added two players to Ruben Amorim's squad this summer. The Red Devils signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5million deal after activating his release clause and will go straight into the head coach's plans. The club then announced the arrival of Diego Leon after a deal for the player was confirmed earlier in the year. The Paraguayan youngster could not join the 13-times Premier League champions until after turning 18. There is a less firm plan of Leon's role heading into the season, with United coaching staff said to be planning to keep a close eye on his progress before deciding on his future. The youngster has aspirations to remain at Old Trafford in his first season. "I'm really happy, I think every player dreams of this," the young defender said to Paraguayan press. "When you're a professional, you have to adapt quickly, it is a massive opportunity. "Everyone thinks I'll go out on loan, but I don't have that mindset. I'm going to kill it in pre-season and within one or two games, I'll already be playing with them." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
