Best cars for parking you can find on the market in the UK

Glasgow Times10-06-2025
While driving is something many motorists enjoy, the act of parking can be a bit more difficult and cause stress for some.
It comes as research from Cazoo shows that Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) are the most nervous generation by far when it comes to parking.
A survey of more than 2,000 motorists found that 96% within the age group faced 'park-xiety'.

Additionally, around two-thirds (66%) say they have asked someone else to park their car for them, which is illegal if the person isn't insured on that car.
With this in mind, Harry Waring, Motoring Specialist at Cazoo, has shared the 10 best cars currently on the market that are the easiest to park with.
Top 10 easiest cars to park with in the UK

A classic first car for a reason, the Fiat 500's compact size, light steering and good all-around visibility make it ideal for slotting into spaces.

Waring adds that it is "responsive and solid on the road and in the car park".

Volkswagen Polo
All models of the Volkswagen Polo have a range of advanced safety features, such as automatic braking, that could help you avoid a collision when parking.
Waring says: "A slightly more premium supermini, the Polo offers an easygoing driving experience with a focus on comfort rather than outright fun."
Mercedes-Benz A-Class
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is considered to be a good option thanks to being equipped with several parking assistance features.
This includes standard reversing cameras, parking sensors, and even active parking assist systems that automatically steer the car into parking spaces.
Waring adds: "It's relatively compact hatchback form also helps with manoeuvrability compared to larger vehicles, and second-hand examples are very affordable, despite the premium badge."
Hyundai i10
The Hyundai i10 is an "excellent" car for the city and is a "dream to park" thanks to its small size, light steering and good all-around visibility.
Some more expensive models even have rear parking sensors, a rare feature in a car of this size.

‘Terrible fuel efficiency, no right-hand drive': why trade deal won't warm up Japan to American cars

Donald Trump has declared that Japan is opening up its domestic market to US cars as part of the bilateral trade deal announced this week. But American manufacturers will find it no easy task convincing Japanese drivers to choose what they see as oversized, unreliable gas-guzzlers. Announcing the agreement – which includes 15% tariffs on imports from Japan, including cars – Trump posted: 'Perhaps most importantly, Japan will open their country to trade including cars and trucks, rice and certain other agricultural products.' Earlier this month, the US president had complained: 'We didn't give them one car in 10 years – they send out millions but they won't take any of ours.' The US claims Japan uses non-tariff barriers (NTBs) to keep out American cars. Japan imported 16,707 American vehicles in 2024, according to the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA). European brands, led by Mercedes-Benz and other German automakers, sold more than 250,000 into the same market, which overall is dominated by Japan's huge domestic auto industry. 'We don't receive any requests from our member companies to address non-tariff barrier issues,' said the JAIA's Sho Matsumoto. Takeshi Miyao, head of the Carnorama auto consultancy's Tokyo office, also says no such hurdles exist for US imports. 'There are non-tariff barriers on rice [another sticking point in the trade negotiations], because the government feels it has to protect Japanese farmers, but not on vehicles,' he says. US manufacturers like GM and Ford simply don't focus on the Japanese market, according to Miyao. 'They don't really do any marketing, and often don't even offer right-hand drive models. So the cars don't sell.' Size is also a problem, Miyao notes. The Ford F-150 pickup is around six metres long and 2 metres high. That kind of vehicular behemoth is particularly ill suited to Japan's narrow roads and tight parking spaces. US cars also have longstanding image problems, says Takahisa Matsuyama, an instructor for chauffeurs and private hire drivers in Tokyo. 'Going back to the days when we first came across US cars like Cadillacs, they're seen as having terrible fuel efficiency and breaking down easily; that impression hasn't changed much,' says Matsuyama. The 2025 car reliability rankings from Consumer Reports, a US non-profit organisation, bear this sentiment out. The top four marques were Subaru, Lexus, Toyota and Honda – all Japanese. The bottom four – Jeep, GMC, Cadillac and Rivian – were all American. Matsuyama points out that the biggest sellers in Japan have long been kei cars. Short for kei-jidosha (light vehicle), these compact cars and trucks are only allowed a tiny 660cc engine, and have topped sales rankings for decades – even as the government has gradually eroded the tax and insurance advantages they receive over regular vehicles. The automotive antithesis of the giant pickup, the kei truck has actually gained a cult fanbase in the US, mostly through private imports. Japan's automakers will now face 15% tariffs on their exports to the US, up from 2.5% and the highest levy in decades. But investors have welcomed the figure as much less than the originally threatened 25% hike, to a total of 27.5%. The news sent the Nikkei 225 index up more than 4% this week, and shares in Japan's biggest carmakers surged even higher – Toyota, Honda and Nissan all gaining more than 10%. One of Trump's perennial complaints in his trade and tariff war has been that other companies 'rip off' the US by selling it more than they buy from it. In that vein, as part of the bilateral negotiations, Tokyo has agreed to encourage Japanese auto brands that also build cars in US factories to import some of them into Japan. That may at least put some US-built vehicles into the showrooms of Japan that motorists might actually buy.

Lewis Hamilton puts Toto Wolff in awkward position with Kimi Antonelli offer

Kimi Antonelli is out of contract at the end of the season, but it appears as though Mercedes have made a decision on his future, with Toto Wolff confirming that the team want to keep him Lewis Hamilton offered to teach rookie Kimi Antonelli how to "work" Toto Wolff in order to secure better contract terms at Mercedes. The seven-time Formula 1 champion spent 12 years with the Brackley-based team, earning hundreds of millions of pounds during that spell. ‌ Antonelli's contractual situation remains far less secure than his predecessor's, who has committed to a multi-year agreement with Ferrari after switching from Mercedes during the winter break. But the 18-year-old currently only has a deal with the Silver Arrows until the end of the current season. ‌ The Italian youngster has already claimed his first F1 podium finish, though he has also committed some expensive mistakes – which is to be expected from a newcomer to the sport who has been fast-tracked in the way Antonelli has. ‌ Team principal Wolff has faith in Antonelli's abilities, demonstrated clearly by the decision to elevate him to a Mercedes racing seat following just half-a-season in Formula 2. And he conceded before the start of this season that the teenager would still be raw. Nevertheless, with the possibility of securing Max Verstappen's signature for 2026, the Austrian has chosen not to extend either of his current drivers' deals. Antonelli was questioned about his contract discussions before the Belgian Grand Prix. "That's the one-million dollar question," he began, before Sky Sports commentator David Croft interjected and jokingly asked whether that represented his Mercedes salary. Before the 18-year-old could continue his response, Hamilton, who was seated next to him during the press conference, intervened. READ MORE: Max Verstappen to Mercedes rumours will only intensify after George Russell admission The Brit declared: "I can help you with the contract. I know how to work Toto, don't worry." Antonelli, chuckling, went on to say: "I've never been worried, to be honest. I know the situation, and I know what the team wants, especially looking at the future. So I think also Toto has been clear recently, and that's obviously good to see. ‌ "But I think the team is working well. The line-up is good. I mean me and George are working well together, and we are trying to work together as a team to find performance again. I think we're doing a pretty good job, and there's a really good atmosphere in the team." "I'm sure the team knows what's the best for especially next year, and I'm pretty confident that I'm in a good position." Luckily for Antonelli, it seems Wolff has made up his mind. Before the race in Spa-Francorchamps, he told ORF: "So they are all up to date. The direction of travel is definitely that we want to continue with George and Kimi. "That is the absolute priority. But you can't look past someone like Max and the plans he has for the future. We did that, but I don't think there will be any big surprises."
