First university for co-operative sector will end nepotism: Amit Shah in Anand

Hindustan Times18 hours ago
Ahmedabad: Union home and cooperation minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that India's first national university for the cooperative sector in Gujarat will end nepotism by ensuring only trained professionals get jobs in the sector. Union minister Amit Shah addresses the gathering during the foundation stone laying ceremony of 'Tribhuvan Sahkari University' (TSU) on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in Anand on Saturday. (Bhupendra Patel - X)
He was addressing a gathering at Anand Agriculture University after laying the foundation stone of Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU) to be built in Gujarat's Anand on 125-acre land for a cost of ₹500 crore.
'Earlier there was no proper system to train employees and members of cooperative societies for the development of the cooperative sector. The employees were given training after recruitment in the cooperative. But after the formation of this university, only those who have undergone training will get jobs,' he said.
He said that laying of the foundation stone of 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University is an important initiative to fill all the gaps in strengthening the cooperative sector. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the cooperative movement is progressing very fast across the country and that the upcoming university is a revolutionary step under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Presently, 40 lakh workers are associated with the cooperative movement across the country, 80 lakh are members of boards and 30 crore people, that is, every fourth person in the country, is associated with the cooperative movement, he added.
'Now, you will not like what I say next, but this university will ensure that the bhai-bhatija vaad (nepotism) in the cooperative sector will end. Only those who graduate from the cooperative university will get jobs in the cooperative sector, which will bring more transparency. In this university, the youth will not only learn technical expertise, accounting, scientific approach and all the qualities of marketing, but they will also learn the values of cooperation that the cooperative movement is for the Dalits, tribals and women of the country. Many problems of the cooperative sector will be solved by this university,' he added.
Shah said that some people in the Congress had questioned as to why this university is named Tribhuvan.
'I want to tell the Congress leaders today that the university is not named Tribhuvan after some God. It is named after Tribhuvandas Kashidas Patel… These Congress leaders do not even know that Tribhuvandas Patel was not a leader of my party, but he belonged to the Congress party of that time. My party (BJP) was not even formed at that time.'
He said that the foundation of this cooperative university has been laid to promote transparency, accountability, research, and the spirit of cooperative federalism.
'There could be no more fitting name for the university than that of Tribhuvan Das Patel. Tribhuvan Das Ji had sown the seed of a new idea on this land under the guidance of Sardar Patel. Tribhuvan Das Ji formed a small group of milk collectors and through it, he ran a huge campaign to empower the farmers. In 1946, Kheda District Cooperative Milk Producers Union was established and today the seed sown by Tribhuvan Das has become a huge banyan tree in which 36 lakh sisters do a business of ₹80,000 crore and none of them has invested more than ₹100,' he added.
He said that today Amul has emerged as the most valuable brand of food items in the world. 'Due to the vision of Tribhuvan Das Ji, today the cooperative dairy of our country stands tall in front of the private dairies of the world,' he said.
He also spoke about Dr Verghese Kurien, hailed as the milkman of India for his role in India's co-operative movement.
'They acknowledge Dr. Kurien's significant contribution, which is undeniable and well-recognised. Gujarat's value system ensures we never forget his contributions. However, those now speaking about it did nothing for his centenary celebrations. It is Amul that is celebrating Dr. Verghese Kurien's centenary year. It was Tribhuvandas Patel who sent Dr. Kurien to the Netherlands for his studies and supported him in advancing the cooperative movement,' said Shah.
Shah said that Prime Minister Modi has decided to form 2 lakh new Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in the country, out of which 60 thousand new PACS will be formed by the end of this year. He said that 2 lakh PACS alone will have 17 lakh employees.
Similarly, many district dairies are being established and the need for trained manpower for all these will also be fulfilled by Tribhuvan Sahkari University. 'This university will work on policy making in cooperatives, data analysis and devising 5 years', 10 years' and 25 years' strategies for the development of cooperatives in the country,' he concluded.

EC should conduct Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bengal: BJP's Suvendu

BJP MLA and leader of opposition in the West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday welcomed the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar where assembly polls are due later this year, and said such an exercise should also be conducted in the Trinamool Congress-ruled state. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued instructions to carry out the exercise in Bihar to weed out ineligible names and ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll, allowing them to exercise their franchise in the polls. "This is a good step, and there will be transparency. Those illegal immigrants who have got themselves enrolled in the electoral rolls in the country should be identified," he said.

BJP ally Tipra Motha Party to meet HM Shah over infiltration issue

Tipra Motha Party (TMP) leaders would soon meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to urge him to take drastic steps against infiltrators, party supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma said on Sunday. Debbarma, a former royal scion, said that illegal infiltrators would jeopardise the socio-economic and customary aspects of the state's indigenous people, especially the tribals. "The Government should take stringent steps to prevent the illegal infiltrators from entering India. Those already illegally staying in Tripura and other states must be pushed back immediately," the TMP chief told IANS. He said, "India should not allow Bangladesh to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections without the participation of the Awami League. India should closely monitor the situation in Bangladesh where an anti-India situation is being created with the active support of Pakistan and ISI." The situation in Bangladesh continues to remain volatile due to the internal violence that began there in June-July last year, especially after the fall of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, 2024. Meanwhile, the TMP recently launched a widespread anti-infiltration campaign across Tripura. The TMP's senior leader and Forest and Environment Minister Animesh Debbama had said that no infiltrators would be allowed to stay in Tripura. "Government should push back those infiltrators who came to Tripura after March 1971," Debbarma said. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Thursday that infiltrators from Bangladesh also realised that this bordering state (Tripura) is not a safe zone for them. The Chief Minister said that all security agencies are on a high alert to prevent illegal infiltrators from entering India. "After the trouble began in Bangladesh and following the fall of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August last year, security forces maintained a close vigil along the border to foil any kind of infiltration bid," CM Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, told the media. He said it is also not possible to enter Tripura and live here using fake Aadhaar cards. The Chief Minister recently held meetings with the senior security officials of different agencies, including BSF, and requested the officials in the state to maintain close coordination among them to deal with the border-related issues. The Chief Minister had further stated that if such infiltrators from across the border manage to enter Indian (Tripura) territory, they would be pushed back as per legal provisions. Tripura, which has an 856 km border with Bangladesh, is surrounded on three sides by the neighbouring country, making the northeastern state very vulnerable and sensitive to cross-border migration issues and other crimes. Except for some patches, most of the frontier had been fenced to prevent smuggling, trans-border crimes, and cross-border illegal movements by infiltrators and inimical elements.

Masterstroke by Modi govt as IAF to get new 'STAR', which will work as...., bad news for Pakistan, China due to... New Delhi: In recent years, India has made significant progress in defence weapons by increasing its domestic production and reducing dependency on foreign defence equipment. The country has also emerged as a leading defence equipment exporter. Apart from this, the Indian government is also focusing on strengthening the armed forces by procuring the latest weapons. On July 3, the Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, gave the green light to the plan as part of a larger Rs 1.05 lakh crore defence upgrade package. The Indian Air Force will procure three Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) aircraft under a Rs 10,000 crore project. This will significantly boost the IAF's surveillance and precision strike capabilities. Let's know more about it. The Air Force plans to add three advanced ISTAR aircraft that combine global aircraft platforms with Indian-made sensors developed by DRDO. This will put India among the elite group of countries who has air-to-ground surveillance capabilities. What Is ISTAR? ISTAR is a comprehensive system that has multiple advanced sensors and processing units integrated on a long-range, high-endurance aircraft. The system combines several intelligence methods, such as electro-optical, radar, signals intelligence (SIGINT), and electronic intelligence (ELINT). These methods give a complete battlefield overview to commanders. Unlike conventional reconnaissance platforms, ISTAR is not restricted to data collection it offers a more comprehensive analysis and understanding of the battlefield situation. It analyses the data and gives it in real-time using advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to frontline units and command centers with superfast precision. Why Is ISTAR a Strategic Imperative? In the era where modern warfare is rapidly evolving, information superiority is the most crucial factor that can even define victory. ISTAR aircraft can give an edge by providing real-time intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition. Its advanced sensors can provide crucial data to commanders on which they can make precise decisions in complex battle environments. In the volatile geopolitical environment where the Indian Air Force operates, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) aircraft are crucial for tracking enemy activity, identifying key targets, and guiding long-range, precise attacks. The ISTAR Program Under Rs 10,000 crore ISTAR project, the IAF will acquire three aircraft from foreign aviation manufacturers most likely from Boeing or Bombardier. Once acquired, these aircraft will be loaded with indigenous sensors and electronic systems which will be developed by Centre for Airborne Systems of the DRDO. India's defence technology has significantly advanced due to the successful testing of these new systems. The IAF is set to receive three advanced ISTAR aircraft by the year 2030. These aircraft will significantly enhance IAF's surveillance and strike capabilities. The acquisition will also put India among the elite countries which has such sophisticated technology. While the project has faced delays and potential security concerns, its strategic value remains undeniable.
