NEW DELHI: An RTC bus en route to Visakhapatnam from Narsipatnam met with an accident near Bayyavaram in Andhra Pradesh on the national highway. The bus collided with a lorry in front of it, resulting in injuries to eight people, including the driver.
Inspector Swamy Naidu of Kasimkota confirmed that eight individuals sustained injuries when the lorry collided with the bus. The injured persons were transported to a local government hospital for medical care. Additional information is pending.
In a separate incident last month, eight devotees lost their lives when a 20-foot section gave way at the Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Visakhapatnam during the Chandanotsavam celebrations.
Relatives of the victims were seen grieving outside Visakhapatnam's King George Hospital following the accident.
Jogarao, a relative of Uma Maheswarao's family, explained that a recently built wall had claimed four lives from one family. The deceased couple had been employed as IT technicians.
"A wall was recently constructed, and four lives of a family were lost due to the wall. Both the wife and husband worked as IT technicians.

We are demanding justice for the family. How can a wall constructed without a pillar support? I am demanding that the contractor and engineer of the wall construction.
The Government should announce one crore ex gratia and one government job to family members. Without announcing it, we wouldn't allow to perform postmortems on the deceased bodies", he said.
Another family member expressed their demand for a thorough investigation and called for government action against officials responsible for the substandard wall construction.
"We need justice for losing our family members. The government should take action against the officers involved in the poor construction of the wall. Four members of my family lost their lives at the same time.
Who will take responsibility for our family? The government should give one government and ex gratia to us", the family member said.

Zohran Mamdani wins New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, defeating ex-Gov Andrew Cuomo

Zohran Mamdani has won New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, a new vote count confirmed Tuesday, cementing his stunning upset of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and sending him to the general election. The Associated Press called the race after the results of the city's ranked choice voting tabulation were released and showed Mamdani beating Cuomo by 12 percentage points. Mamdani's win had been widely expected since he took a commanding lead after the polls closed a week ago, falling just short of the 50% of the vote needed to avoid another count under the city's ranked choice voting model. The system allows voters' other preferences to be counted if their top candidate falls out of the running. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Join new Free to Play WWII MMO War Thunder War Thunder Play Now Undo Mamdani, who declared victory the night of the June 24 primary, will face a general election field that includes incumbent Mayor Eric Adams as well as independent candidate Jim Walden and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Cuomo conceded defeat on the night of the June 24 primary but is contemplating whether to run in the general election on an independent ballot line. Live Events Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist and member of the state Assembly, was virtually unknown when he launched his candidacy centered on a bold slate of populist ideas. But he built an energetic campaign that ran circles around Cuomo as the older, more moderate Democrat tried to come back from the sexual harassment scandal that led to his resignation four years ago. The results, even before they were finalized, sent a shockwave through the political world. Mamdani's campaign, which was focused on lowering the cost of living, claims it has found a new blueprint for Democrats who have at times appeared rudderless during President Donald Trump's climb back to power. The Democratic establishment has approached Mamdani with caution. Many of its big players applauded his campaign but don't seem ready to throw their full support behind the young progressive, whose past criticisms of law enforcement, use of the word "genocide" to describe the Israeli government's actions in Gaza and "democratic socialist" label amount to landmines for some in the party. If elected, Mamdani would be the city's first Muslim mayor and its first of Indian American decent. He would also be one of its youngest. For Republicans, Mamdani has already provided a new angle for attack. Trump and others in the GOP have begun to launch broadsides at him, moving to cast Mamdani as the epitome of leftist excess ahead of consequential elections elsewhere this year and next. "If I'm a Republican, I want this guy to win," said Grant Reeher, a political science professor at Syracuse University. "Because I want to be able to compare and contrast my campaign as a Republican, in a national election, to the idea of, 'This is where the Democratic party is.'" New York City's ranked choice voting model allows voters to list up to five candidates on their ballots in order of preference. If a single candidate is the first choice of more than 50% of voters, then that person wins the race outright. Since no candidate cleared that bar on the night of the primary, the ranked choice voting process kicked in. The board is scheduled to certify the election on July 15. Mamdani has been a member of the state Assembly since 2021, and has characterized his inexperience as a potential asset. His campaign promised free city buses, free child care, a rent freeze for people living in rent-stabilized apartment, government-run grocery stores and more, all paid for with taxes on the wealthy. Critics have slammed his agenda as politically unrealistic. Cuomo ran a campaign centered on his extensive experience, casting himself as the only candidate capable of saving a city he said had spun out of control. During the campaign, he focused heavily on combating antisemitism and leaned on his name recognition and juggernaut fundraising operation rather than mingling with voters. Confronted with the sexual harassment allegations that ended his tenure as governor, he denied wrongdoing, maintaining that the scandal was driven by politics and that voters were ready to move on. Cuomo did not remove his name from the November ballot last week, ahead of a procedural deadline to do so, and has said he is still considering whether to mount an actual campaign for the office. Adams, while still a Democrat, is running in the November election as an independent. He dropped out of the Democratic primary in April after he was severely wounded by his now-dismissed federal bribery case. Though he had done little in the way of campaigning since then, he reignited his reelection operation in the days after Mamdani declared victory, calling it a choice between a candidate with a "blue collar" and one with a "silver spoon."

Zohran Mamdani defeats Andrew Cuomo in NYC Democratic Mayoral Primary, advances to general election; could become first Muslim, Indian-American to hold post

NEW YORK: Zohran Mamdani has officially secured victory in New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, with a final vote count on Tuesday confirming his upset win over former Governor Andrew Cuomo. He now advances to the general election. Since Mamdani took a decisive lead following the polls closing a week ago and narrowly missed the 50 per cent of the vote required to prevent a second count under the city's ranked choice voting system, his victory had been anticipated, news agency Associated Press reported. If a voter's favorite candidate withdraws from the race, the method permits their alternative preferences to be taken into consideration. In the general election, Mamdani, who announced his victory on the evening of the June 24 primary, will compete against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent Jim Walden. On the evening of the primary on June 24, Cuomo admitted defeat, but he is still debating whether to run on an independent ticket in the general election. Mamdani, a democratic socialist who is 33 years old and a member of the state Assembly, was almost unknown when he ran for office with a daring list of populist policies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Glicemia acima de 100? The political world was rocked by the results even before they were confirmed. Mamdani's campaign, which aimed to reduce living expenses, says it has discovered a new path for Democrats who have occasionally seemed lost during President Donald Trump's ascent to power. The Democratic establishment has been cautious in its attitude to Mamdani. Although many of its major players praised his campaign, they don't appear prepared to fully support the young progressive. For some in the party, his previous criticisms of law enforcement, use of the word "genocide" to describe the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza, and designation as a "democratic socialist" are like landmines. Mamdani would be the first mayor of Indian American descent and the first Muslim in the city if elected. He would be among its youngest as well. Mamdani has already given Republicans a fresh line of attack. Ahead of important elections later this year and next, Trump and other GOP figures have started to take aim at Mamdani, portraying him as the pinnacle of socialist excess. According to Syracuse University political science professor Grant Reeher, "I want this guy to win if I'm a Republican." "Because I want to be able to compare and contrast my campaign as a Republican with the notion that the Democratic party is in this position in a national election." The ranked choice voting system in New York City enables voters to rank up to five candidates on their ballots. A candidate is declared the winner of the race if more than 50% of voters select them as their first choice. On the night of the primary, no candidate was able to clear that hurdle; therefore, the ranked-choice voting method took over. On July 15, the board is expected to certify the election. Since joining the state Assembly in 2021, Mamdani has described his lack of experience as a possible strength. In exchange for taxes on the wealthy, his campaign promised free city buses, free child care, government-run grocery shops, a rent freeze for rent-stabilized apartments, and more. His plan has been criticized for being politically unfeasible. Cuomo launched a campaign that focused on his wealth of experience, positioning himself as the one contender who could turn around a city that had gotten out of hand. He prioritized fighting antisemitism during the campaign and relied more on his well-known brand and successful fundraising effort than on engaging with voters. He denied any misconduct when confronted with the sexual harassment accusations that brought an end to his term as governor, arguing that the issue was motivated by politics and that voters were prepared to move on. Ahead of a procedural deadline to do so, Cuomo did not take his name off the November ballot last week. He has stated that he is still unsure about whether to run for government. Adams is an independent candidate in the November election, despite still being a Democrat. After being seriously hurt by his now-dismissed federal bribery case, he withdrew from the Democratic primary in April. In the days following Mamdani's declaration of victory, he rekindled his reelection campaign, despite having done little before. He referred to it as a contest between a candidate with a "blue collar" and one with a "silver spoon."

'Stop speaking about...': Candace Owens says Trump called her, asked her not to spin conspiracy theories that Macron's wife was born a man

Trump apparently brokered peace between Candace Owens and French First Lady Birgitte Macron. Far-right commentator Candace Owens claimed she received a surprise phone call from President Donald Trump in February in which Trump requested her to not pursue the conspiracy theory that French President Emmanuel Macron's wife, Brigitte Macron, was actually a man. Trump told Candace that he met Brigitte up close and she looked like a woman. Brigitte is old and the conspiracy theories are really impacting her, Trump told Candace. In her YouTube, and other platforms, Candace repeatedly claimed that Brigitte Macron is transgender. She went to the extent of claiming that Brigitte's gender identity was concealed through media manipulation and cover-ups. In January this year, Owens claimed to have received a legal letter from Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron threatening action against her for spreading these rumors. She responded defiantly, vowing to publish the letter and continue her allegations, framing the legal threat as an attempt to silence her "You know, so here's what happened I'm negotiating this thing, I'm a negotiating Ukraine and Russia and you wouldn't believe how many, how many parts of…," Donald Trump opened his call to Candace. "He just like jumps right into the narrative of exactly how this went down. I am literally… it is hard to catch my breath to comprehend that four days ago I am literally ending a series about Brigitte Macron, and now I'm speaking to the President of the United States and the topic of conversation is about Macron's wife's penis," Candace revealed. Owens said she resisted and told the president that Brigitte Macron had the most amazing doctors who performed the surgeries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Owens said. "And I said to Trump, and I will be honest, that at that moment I realized that one day this is gonna go into my autobiography and so I got to say something funny, and I just said, I said to him, 'You know, respectfully, Mr. President, it's not my fault that he married someone with a penis.'" Owens said. Trump said Macron was really good to him and wanted him to get this one this done. 'Melania loves you… she says you're beautiful," Trump apparently told Candace.
