Johor fully equipped to receive more Japanese investment, says Invest Johor CEO
He said that elements crucial to Japanese investors, particularly talent development and policy consistency, were already in place in Johor.
'For talent, we already have the Johor Talent Development Council, which includes collaboration between academia and industry.
'And for the policy side, we have the Johor Super Lane and the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre Johor (IMFCJ).
'We already have many things to offer. Now it's a matter of ramping up promotion,' he said when met on the sidelines of the Nikkei Forum in Medini on Thursday (June 19).
He said Invest Johor was focusing its efforts on real projects and partnerships that showcase ongoing progress on the ground.
'These initiatives are not just theoretical, they are already being implemented.
'We have strong case studies to highlight, particularly in Kulai under the Kulai Fastlane, and now with the rollout of the Johor Superlane,' he added.
Natazha said the two-day forum here was a good way for Japanese investors to know what the state has to offer.
"Japanese companies already have a presence in Johor even before the forum.
'Now, interest is growing stronger as Japanese companies have more clarity about what Johor has to offer, on top of the ecosystem already in place.
'This helps us tell our story to a wider audience, especially with the added leverage from the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ),' he said.

Data centre NTT DC REIT makes tepid debut after Singapore's biggest IPO in 4 years
A file photo of the SGX Centre in Singapore. — Bloomberg SINGAPORE: Singapore's NTT DC REIT, a data centre real estate investment trust, had a lacklustre market debut on Monday after riding a wave of AI interest to raise $773 million in the city-state's biggest IPO in four years. NTT DC REIT shares ticked higher to $1.03 in the first 30 minutes of trade on the Singapore Exchange, versus their $1.00 per unit offer price. The benchmark stock index was up 0.4%. NTT DC REIT, whose primary backer NTT Ltd is part of Japanese telecommunication giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp, has six data centres in Austria, Singapore and the United States, valued at $1.6 billion. Its cornerstone investors include Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC with a 9.8% stake - the second-largest investor after NTT Ltd with 25%. The listing underscores global investors' growing appetite for data centres in the Asia-Pacific region driven by high growth potential and strong demand for artificial intelligence services. NTT DC REIT's IPO was Singapore's biggest since the $977 million IPO of Digital Core REIT in 2021, LSEG data showed. It was also Southeast Asia's biggest IPO since the $942.9 million IPO of Thai Life Insurance in 2022. GROWING IPO PIPELINE The Singapore Exchange has seen growing interest from listing hopefuls since announcing measures in February to strengthen its equities market, including a 20% tax rebate for primary listings. "There is a broad base of potential REIT IPOs on the horizon, including data centre, industrial, logistics, hospitality, commercial and retail assets," said Art Karoonyavanich, global head of equity capital markets at DBS. "This marks the first time we have such a pipeline within a 12-month horizon and these IPOs could raise anywhere between S$600 million ($468.27 million) to around a billion." Beyond REITs, Hong Kong-listed China Medical System (CMS) in set to debut a secondary listing on the SGX on Tuesday. "We believe that upon completion of the proposed secondary listing on the SGX, CMS will be able to attract funds focusing on Asia-Pacific investments and local capital in Southeast Asia, thereby optimising the shareholder structure," CMS told Reuters. Other firms seeking to list in Singapore include Foundation Healthcare as well as Centurion which plans to list an employee dormitory REIT. Singapore's growing IPO market comes against a backdrop of a strong stock market where the benchmark index has risen more than 8% this year and set all-time highs in the past nine trading sessions, LSEG data showed. - Reuters

Ringgit eases against US dollar amid cautious market sentiment
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed easier against the US dollar on Monday, tracking the performance of its regional peers, as market sentiment remained extremely guarded while the foreign exchange market navigated a period of economic uncertainties. At 6 pm, the local note weakened to 4.2505/2560 against the greenback from last Friday's close of 4.2475/2525. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the ringgit initially appreciated against the US dollar in the morning session to RM4.2455 but later stabilised at around RM4.25 in the afternoon. "Asian currencies were also generally weak against the US dollar. The US tariffs continue to hog the limelight as the Donald Trump administration maintained its hawkish stance towards the European Union and Mexico with 30 per cent tariffs. "At the same time, Trump's frustration with Russia over the Ukraine war suggests that the fighting could prolong. Trump has indicated that his administration will send Patriot missiles to Ukraine to help it defend against Russia's missile attacks,' he said. Brent crude oil is currently trading above US$70 per barrel. At the close, the ringgit was traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies. It strengthened against the British pound to 5.7305/7379 from 5.7524/7592, improved against the Japanese yen to 2.8858/8897 from 2.8893/8929 but traded marginally lower versus the euro to 4.9693/9757 from 4.9679/9737. The local note also trended mostly higher against ASEAN currencies.
