‘Outstanding': PM Modi praises S Jaishankar Operation Sindoor speech in Parliament

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi shared the YouTube link of Jaishankar's Parliament speech and wrote, 'India's foreign policy has united the entire world against terrorism in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar ji spoke in detail about this in the Lok Sabha.'
In another post, he called Jaishankar's speech 'outstanding' and said that it highlighted how the world heard India's perspective on terrorism.
'The speech by EAM Dr. Jaishankar Ji was outstanding. He highlighted how the world has clearly heard India's perspective on fighting the menace of terrorism through Operation Sindoor,' he wrote.
What S Jaishankar said in Parliament
While answering questions about the foreign support during Operation Sindoor in retaliation to Pahalgam terror attack, S Jaishankar said on Monday underlined in Parliament the statements given by international groupings like the Quad and BRICS in the aftermath of the attack, wherein they condemned the act of terrorism.

He said that the Quad had given a statement saying it 'unequivocally condemns all acts of terrorism or violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism.'
He added that BRICS, which includes countries such as China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Iran and Egypt, 'also condemned the attack, reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism.'
Jaishankar also said that India's military response to the Pahalgam attack has created a 'new normal' for fighting cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. This, he said, includes confining bilateral talks to terrorism and not giving in to nuclear blackmail.
He added that India has a new five-point approach, which makes it clear that 'terror and good neighbourliness cannot co-exist [and] blood and water cannot flow together'.

Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday attacked the Opposition for questioning the government for agreeing to a ceasefire with Pakistan in May and lashed out at the Congress for being soft on terror and exonerating Islamabad over it. He said that the Congress's tradition of having debates after every terror attack was over. Union home minister Amit Shah. I want to ask then, in 1948, our soldiers had an upper hand in Kashmir, but [Prime Minister Jawaharlal] Nehru stopped the war. PoK [Pakistan-occupied Kashmir] was lost because of Nehru,' he said during the Parliament debate on Operation Sindoor launched against Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack in April. Shah said Vallabhbhai Patel, Nehru's deputy, tried to go to the radio station to announce the 1947-48 war would continue, but its doors were shut. 'In the Indus Waters Treaty [suspended post-Pahalgam attack], 80% of Indian waters were given to Pakistan. In 1965, we controlled Haji Pir Pass [in Jammu and Kashmir]. But in 1966, Haji Pir was returned to Pakistan.' Shah said India captured 93,000 Pakistani prisoners of war in 1971 and occupied 15,000 square km of Pakistan. 'But as part of the Shimla agreement, PoK was forgotten and the territory was returned.' Shah said if Congress was exonerating Pakistan, then it had no right to ask questions. He added that Nehru gave away Aksai Chin, saying no grass grows there. Shah said Nehru was asked should he also be sent to China, as he did not have any hair on his head. 'Nehru opposed China's exclusion from the UN Security Council, saying it would spoil the India-China relationship. Shah recalled meeting the Pahalgam victims. 'I can never forget the face of a woman who had married six days ago [and lost her husband]. It is our responsibility [to punish terrorists]. But I want to ask, what happened during your time? I am sorry that Chidambaram sought proof that the terrorists came from Pakistan. And when did he raise it? When Parliament was set to debate. Whom did he want to save? What will you gain by saving Pakistan?' Shah asked. When Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi protested, saying they had not exonerated Pakistan, Shah said, 'But if you are sitting with them, then you have to share the burden.' Shah blamed Congress for Pakistan's creation. 'Congress opposed [Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2002] and scrapped it. It is trying to save terrorists to save the vote bank. During our time, terror attacks have been limited to Jammu and Kashmir.' Shah referred to Congress leader Salman Khurshid's statement claiming Sonia Gandhi cried after the 2008 shoot out in Delhi's Batla House, which left police officer Mohan Chand Sharma dead. 'If you had to cry, you should have cried for the martyr [Sharma].'

ED filed closure reports in 49 PMLA cases over last 10 years: Government
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) over the last ten-and-a- half years, has filed closure reports in 49 cases before special courts meant to try anti-money laundering crimes, the government informed Parliament on Tuesday (July 29, 2025). Parliament Monsoon Session: Follow LIVE updates on July 29, 2025 The agency secured eight conviction orders involving 15 people from the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) courts between 2015 to June 2025, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written statement furnished in the Rajya Sabha. He was asked about the details of all cases lodged by the ED since 2015 where charge sheets have not yet been filed in courts, trial of the accused has not started and prosecution has been closed by the federal probe agency. "During the period from 01.01.2015 to 30.06.2025, the Directorate of Enforcement has taken up 5,892 cases for investigation under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002," the Minister said. In these cases, 1,398 prosecution complaints including 353 supplementary charge sheets have been filed before the respective special courts under PMLA, he said. Also Read | Significant step-up in action taken under PMLA since 2014, says ED Director Out of these, so far, the special courts have framed charges in 300 prosecution complaints including 66 supplementary charge sheets, Mr. Chaudhary said. "As on 30.06.2025, the PMLA special courts have convicted 15 persons in 08 conviction orders in these cases," he stated. The reply did not specify the reasons for filing of the closure reports by the ED. According to the scheme of PMLA, money laundering cases are only registered after taking cognisance of a predicate offence or primary case booked under various sections of the IPC or BNS and other laws. The courts have held that if the primary case falls before a court of law, the PMLA case will automatically go away.
