India Vs England 5th Test Day 2 Weather Forecast: Will Rain Ruin India's Momentum?
India finished the first day of the fifth Test at 204/6 against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Karun Nair was unbeaten at 52. Chris Woakes was injured and ruled out.
With India's score reading 204/6 at the end of the first day of the fifth Test, it's hard to pick which team had a better first day in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on Thursday (July 31).
England bowlers dominated throughout, picking wickets regularly with enough help from the wicket. But Karun Nair remained unbeaten at his half-century, giving India some hope for going past 300, which would be excellent here, as India's pacers would expect similar help for them.
England won't mind being only a wicket away from India's fragile tail, though they have been dealt a major blow with Chris Woakes being ruled out of the remainder of the game with a shoulder injury.
There's a third factor at play, too. Just like the first day, when only 64 overs were bowled due to rain, the Nature Gods can affect the second day as well. Although conditions are expected to be mostly overcast for most of the game period, showers are expected between 3-4 pm BST (7:30-8:30 pm IST). That should mean some interruptions during the second half of the second session.
Given that this match is shaping up to be a low-scorer, an hour or two lost here and there shouldn't make a big difference, but the last thing fans would want to see is this good match seeing no result.
India were 204 for six at the end of a rain-affected opening day. Nair and Washington Sundar were batting on 52 and 19 respectively as 64 overs were possible due to several rain interruptions.
India added 119 runs in 35 overs in the extended final session, losing three wickets. Earlier, only six overs could be bowled in the second session due to rain and a wet outfield, during which India lost captain Shubman Gill.
After rain forced an early lunch, India began the second session at 72 for two. Gill ran himself out on 21, after adding six runs to his individual total. Rain interrupted the second session again, and tea was taken afterward. In the opening session, England took two wickets, dismissing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for 2, as he was trapped in front of the wicket by pacer Gus Atkinson.
Pace bowler Chris Woakes then reduced India to 38 for two by bowling KL Rahul (14 off 40 balls).

Sachin Tendulkar gives verdict on Shubman Gill's captaincy on epic England tour: ‘2-2, things could've been different but…'
Shubman Gill's first-ever Test series as India's captain in the longest format was a gruelling five-match series in England but the legendary Sachin Tendulkar feels that the 25-year-old fared well in that role. The series, which was the first to have a trophy partially named after Tendulkar – the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, is now being widely rated as among the greatest of the century. Every match went the full five days and with most going well into the last sessions, and the series ended 2-2. 'All in all, a fantastic result. 2-2, things could've been different but there are no ifs and buts in cricket,' said Tendulkar in a video on Reddit in which he analysed the series. Tendulkar said that Gill seemed to be searching for ideas a bit whenever England had compiled a good partnership but also stated that it is only natural for a captain to have that approach in such a situation. 'Captaincy has a lot to do with how the bowlers are bowling, how disciplined they are and how long they can persist with their plans,' said Tendulkar. 'Sometimes what happens is that if things are not going the bowlers' way, they start experimenting. That is when the captain feels that the fielders he has on the ground is not enough, he needs more, because runs will be coming from everywhere. 'He still looked calm and composed but when partnershops happen, it becomes difficult for any captain and the priority becomes to dry their runs.' Tendulkar said that overall, Gill seemed to be controlling his team and the game pretty well. 'Overall I felt he controlled the team well. There were areas things could've been different but, everyone has their opinion. This was his first series and possibly against the most attacking side in Test cricket. I don't think any other team bats the way this England side does,' he said. Tendulkar was gushing with praise for Gill as far as the Indian captain's own performance with the bat went. The 25-year-old broke a plethora of records as he smashed as many as 754 runs in the series. This included the second Test in which he scored 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second. 'Shubman batted brilliantly throughout the series, he looked calm and composed, organised,' said Tendulkar. 'When it comes to quality batting, you've got to have a clear head and a game plan. And he was extemely consistent as far as his thought process is concerned because it reflects on your footwork. If you are not clear in your head, your body doesn't respond accordingly. His body responded brilliantly, he looked so much control he had so much time to play the ball. 'There was precision in his footwork. The most important thing that I noticed was the respect to a good ball. Where the tendency sometimes is to push the ball on your front foot even if the ball is not near your foot, he was able to defend there. And consistently defend well on front foot. His ability to leave was very good. Overall, shot selection was very, very good and precise.'

Gautam Gambhir Not Praising Just 'One Name' But Says 'Boys Deserve Every...'
Last Updated: India secured a series draw against England with a six-run victory in the final Test. Coach Gautam Gambhir praised the team's resilience and highlighted Siraj's performance. The Indian team secured a series draw with a spectacular victory against England in the final Test of their five-match contest. Head coach Gautam Gambhir praised the team, saying they 'deserve every bit of it" and it is difficult to 'mention one name" that stands out. Two consecutive series losses to New Zealand and Australia had forced India into a transition period as a young side under Shubman Gill took on England. Under the guidance of coach Gambhir and captain Gill, the Indian cricket team's new era began promisingly. Their immense fighting spirit, resilience, and never-say-die mentality helped them secure a series draw by defeating England by six runs at The Oval in a thrilling finale, leveling the series 2-2. The result marked a significant turnaround for India, who came into the England series after a string of poor performances in the traditional format under Gambhir's charge. Gambhir particularly praised pacer Siraj, who was the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps, including nine at The Oval, but he emphasised that it is difficult to single out just one outstanding performer. 'I think he (Siraj) has been brilliant. In fact, not only he, but the entire team has performed brilliantly. It is very difficult for me to mention one name, but these guys have, be it Shubman, be it Siraj, be it everyone… I think the boys have been brilliant throughout the last two months," said Gambhir. What Gambhir Said About Gill? He also highlighted Shubman's 'fabulous job" and expressed confidence in his future contributions to Indian cricket. 'That is all I can say, and he will keep doing good for Indian cricket," he concluded. The series featured close contests in all matches, with both sides achieving new records. Each match ended on the fifth day, and the final match was a fitting conclusion, with both teams dominating different sessions.
