Jose Mourinho points finger at Sir Jim Ratcliffe as he gives brutal Man Utd verdict
Manchester United suffered their worst ever Premier League campaign in 2024-25 as they finished 15 and former coach Jose Mourinho has pointed the finger of blame at chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has taken aim at Sir Jim Ratcliffe, claiming he "doesn't have much experience in football" and insisting "a lot needs to change" at Old Trafford. United are still reeling from a turbulent season that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League table, their worst campaign in top flight history, as Ruben Amorim was unable to steady the ship after Erik ten Hag was sacked last year. The Red Devils lost a total of 18 games and they were also beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the Europa League final, missing out on a final chance to claim Champions League football. Mourinho has experience of managing United during a difficult period after he was sacked in 2018 after picking up just 26 points from 17 games in the 2018-19 season. The 'Special One' did win two major trophies at United and also finished second in 2017-18 and suggests Ratcliffe's lack of footballing experience might hinder the club - in a subtle jab at the billionaire and the United hierarchy. Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, he said: "Today, I think that with the change in ownership at the club, with an owner who doesn't have much experience in football but rather in sport... "What happened to Ruben, from being the manager of the worst Manchester United in Premier League history to having continuity and confidence to continue and be Ruben Amorim, is a sign that a lot needs to change." However, Mourinho believes current boss Amorim has "incredible potential" to be a success at Old Trafford and urged the club to keep backing him - and to allow him to do his work as he sees fit. "With that stability... We all agree that he's a manager with great potential and personality. I think he has incredible potential to do great work." Mourinho is now at Turkish club Fenerbahce, where he is hoping to win his first major since joining them last summer as he approaches his second season. Since leaving United, Mourinho had an unsuccessful spell at Tottenham, where he was sacked just days before the 2021 Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. He later won the UEFA Conference League with Roma before also being sacked by the Italian side last year. Amorim will be hoping for a much better second season with United as he prepares for a pre-season tour of the United States - where they will play West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier League Summer Series. United have already made two high profile signings as they look to bounce back from their dreadful first campaign under Amorim after snapping up forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Celtic star ‘set to leave Parkhead for transfer to Hoops' Premiership rivals'

A few more Celtic players are expected to join him out the exit door in the coming weeks. And it could be SEVEN Hoops stars in the near future as the Daily Record claim one player is closing in on a loan move to Livingston. It's suggested that left-back Adam Montgomery is set to join David Martindale's side for the upcoming campaign. Montgomery, 23, is out of the picture at Parkhead despite being handed minutes in various friendlies in pre-season this summer. The full-back has made 20 appearances for the Hoops since his debut back in 2021, but hasn't managed to tie down a regular spot in the first team. Most of those outings came in the 2021/22 campaign under Ange Postecoglou in his first season in charge. But since then he's fallen down the pecking order and has enjoyed loan spells at Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Motherwell, Fleetwood Town and Queen's Park. He spent last season in the Championship with the Spiders, but looks set for Premiership action this coming season with the Lions. Livi boss Martindale is needing another left-back after Robbie Fraser returned to Rangers following his loan stint last term. Inside ex-Celtic and Scotland star's £3m property empire as free agent spends almost £1m on two properties in St Andrews He joined the club in January for the remainder of the campaign and impressed in the second tier, helping the Lions return to the top flight. Now Martindale has turned his attention to another Old Firm left-back to take his place. It's stated that Montgomery is set to be announced as Livi's latest summer recruit. It's believed the club are closing in on the signing of Aidan Denholm on loan from Hearts as well, while former Willem II striker Jeremy Bokila is also set to join.
