Alex Sarr and Bub Carrington land on NBA all-rookie teams
For the first time in more than 60 years, two Washington Wizards were named to the NBA's all-rookie teams, the league announced Tuesday.
Center Alex Sarr made first team — the first Wizard to do so since Bradley Beal in 2012-13 — while guard Bub Carrington was named to the second team. They are the first Wizards to make the teams since Rui Hachimura in 2019-20. The only other time the Wizards had two selections came when Rod Thorn and Gus Johnson earned the honor in 1963-64.

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt makes franchise history with scoreless innings streak
NEW YORK — After dominating the Baltimore Orioles with seven no-hit innings in his last outing, New York Yankees manager hailed Clarke Schmidt as 'one of the most underrated starting pitchers in the game.' Soon — if he's not already there — he'll be properly rated as one of the best starters in Major League Baseball. Advertisement Schmidt set the Yankees' single-season franchise record with 28 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings in the Expansion Era (1961), passing Catfish Hunter's 26-inning streak in 1975. Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker snapped Schmidt's streak in the fourth inning with a solo home run over the left-field wall. Schmidt's streak is the longest scoreless streak by a Yankees starter since Don Larsen's 29 innings across the 1957 and 1958 seasons. Clarke Schmidt's 2Ks in the 2nd…and Sword. ⚔️ — Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) June 28, 2025 Schmidt's streak began after a humiliating first inning against the Cleveland Guardians on June 4. Schmidt allowed three runs on three hits against a Guardians lineup that featured eight left-handed hitters that day. Since the second inning against the Guardians, Schmidt has been dominant. 'I just feel like he has a real good handle on his arsenal,' Boone said before Saturday's game against the Athletics. 'I feel like his pitch usage right now, especially the last few, has been excellent.' The scoreless streak coincided with Schmidt incorporating a four-seam fastball to his arsenal. It's a pitch he hasn't thrown since the early years of his MLB career, as he scrapped it for a cutter and sinker. But entering Saturday's game, Schmidt's fastball has been elite, holding opposing hitters to a .125 batting average and .188 slugging percentage. 'This has been a pitch that we've been working on and fiddling with over the course of this year,' Schmidt said earlier this month. 'I'm really happy with where it's been. It doesn't always get registered as a four-seamer, so the usage is messed up a little bit. For me, it just gets guys off the cutter, especially lefties. It can be effective versus righties as well for some swing-and-miss at the top of the zone, especially when guys are hunting my breaking ball package. When you can mix up usages and get guys off certain pitches that they're obviously sitting on, that's when you find success.' Advertisement Schmidt hasn't just been helping the big-league club find success when he's on the mound, either. The righty took The Athletic through his day-to-day routine with how he gets prepared for his start day. That story has since been shared with Yankees minor leaguers and coaches for them to get a sense of what it takes to be a major-league starter. This story will be updated.

WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results As Rhea Ripley Topples Raquel Rodriguez
Rhea Ripley continues her long-running feud with The Judgment Day. (Credit: Rich Freeda/WWE via ... More Getty Images) WWE Night of Champions 2025 marked yet another big win for Rhea Ripley. Ripley, arguably the most protected star in WWE's women's division, nearly fell short in her Street Fight against The Judgment Day's Raquel Rodriguez thanks to some interference from Roxanne Perez. But the nearly unbeatable Ripley was able to overcome both Perez and Rodriguez with an avalanche Riptide for the ages. When WWE announced that Ripley vs. Rodriguez would be a Street Fight, that paved the way for a wonky finish that would allow Ripley to take the loss while still looking strong in defeat. Lo and behold, Ripley was still able to avoid a rare loss, instead beating Rodriguez in resounding fashion. WWE Night of Champions 2025 Results for Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez WWE's creative team had a chance to pull off a shocking loss for Ripley at WWE Night of Champions 2025, but Ripley emerged victorious, after all. Rodriguez was unable to capitalize on the outside interference from Perez in her attempt to give Ripley just her third pinfall defeat since May 2022. Instead, Ripley picked up a big win as she looks to regain the momentum she had in early 2025. There were several notable moments in the match, including: Ripley's seemingly never-ending feud with The Judgment Day has gone on for much of the past two years, with Ripley spending most of that time feuding with Liv Morgan. Morgan, however, recently suffered a devastating shoulder injury that has reportedly caused WWE to scrap a number of creative plans, including significant booking directions for the upcoming Evolution II event. WWE Night of Champions 2025 Results: What's Next For Rhea Ripley? Ripley's win at WWE Night of Champions won't necessarily serve as the end of her feud with The Judgment Day. With Morgan injured, Perez is reportedly set to replace Morgan as one half of the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions during Morgan's absence. Connecting the dots here, Perez is clearly trying to take over Morgan's spot as the commander-in-chief of Judgment Day. That's been going on for months now, and there have been both subtle and obvious signs that this isn't sitting well with Morgan. Prior to her injury, Morgan was reportedly set for a major babyface turn as she continues to soar in popularity thanks to her consistently great performances. Even though Ripley beat Rodriguez at Night of Champions 2025, WWE is clearly laying the groundwork for Morgan to return, form an unlikely alliance with her former rival Ripley and go after Perez, Rodriguez and Judgment Day. That's a potentially intriguing storyline that could get Morgan back to her face roots, unite Morgan and Ripley as a powerhouse duo and ultimately lead to the dismantling of The Judgment Day. Given Morgan's injury that will take some time, but Ripley's WWE Night of Champions win was likely just the start to something really big for Ripley, Morgan and everyone involved.

Kevin Garnett blames Achilles injuries in the NBA on players not being in great shape: "They are not in the shape to play at this pace in the NBA"
Kevin Garnett blames Achilles injuries in the NBA on players not being in great shape: "They are not in the shape to play at this pace in the NBA" originally appeared on Basketball Network. Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett commented on the alarming number of Achilles injuries in the NBA this season. Three superstar players, all eerily wearing the zero jersey number, suffered Achilles tears during the 2025 NBA Playoffs, including Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton, whose injury happened in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. Overall, seven players tore their Achilles tendon, the most in a single season in the NBA. Advertisement According to Garnett, he believes the theory that there is a relation between an Achilles tear and having a calf strain before the Achilles injury because the two body parts are related. "We don't think that today's NBA players, they do play at a fast rate, but I don't think they're in tip-top shape," said Garnett. "I don't think the league is in the type of shape that you need to be in the type of shape to play at this pace. I think they think that, and if anybody knows the body, your calves are your breaks. The one thing that supports the calves is your Achilles. So if your calf is the first thing to shut down, you have to think about how things are built." KG urges players to strengthen their calves by doing calf raises According to the Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel bone and helps move the feet and ankle. Advertisement It starts in the middle of the calf and goes down to the heel. It is the largest and strongest tendon in the human body. Although it can resist large tensile forces, it's not indestructible, especially when players aren't doing much to strengthen it. "I heard the other day some trainers was talking about the lack of calf raises for some of the players to end their workout, bro, we used to end a workout, especially on leg day, with calf raises. This is how I'm speeding up. This is how I'm stopping. This is my whole wiggle. If you calves ain't here, add on top of whenever I finish I gotta be athletic enough to finish, right?" "Strengthen your fu–in calves. Do the fu–ing calf raises every day," advised KG. Garnett's claims were validated in a recent article While Garnett is no doctor, he made some valid points in his analysis. In a recent ESPN article, a physical therapist from the University of Delaware named Karin Gravare Silbernagel talked about how today's athletes focus on upper leg strength. Because of that, their lower leg also needs to keep up. Advertisement "At this point, we need to start thinking about the calf and Achilles in the same way," she said. "Do we have enough strength ... to be able to tolerate the sport that we're doing? The lower leg is lagging behind some of the other things that we do." As to the connection between calf injuries and Achilles tears, she said there is no clear proof linking the two injuries. But as KG said, the Achilles tendon is attached to the calf. "We don't necessarily see them going from having a calf strain and then rupturing the Achilles," Gravare Silbernagel added, "but they're all attached." NBA commissioner Adam Silver also said recently that the league is tapping AI to analyze player data to prevent or at least minimize the risk of players suffering the same fate as Dame, JT, and Hali.
