Trey Lance, Chargers trounce Lions in Hall of Fame Game

Reuters2 days ago
August 1 - Chargers backup quarterback Trey Lance kicked off the NFL preseason in style, throwing two touchdown passes while leading Los Angeles to a 34-7 rout of the Detroit Lions in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday.
With the star quarterbacks, Los Angeles' Justin Herbert and Detroit's Jared Goff, among the many regulars sitting out, Lance completed 13 of 20 passes for 120 yards.
Chargers running back Kimani Vidal scored two touchdowns while running for 37 yards on nine carries.
After Detroit's Grant Stuard fumbled away the opening kickoff, Lance led a 28-yard scoring drive that ended with a 5-yard scoring pass to Will Dissly.
A 60-yard interception return by Nikko Reed set up the Chargers for their second touchdown, a 2-yard run by Vidal for a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.
Craig Reynolds (10 carries, 38 yards) scored the Lions' lone touchdown on a 3-yard run late in the second period. Lance's 15-yard TD pass to KeAndre Lambert-Smith made it 21-7 before halftime.
Chargers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, an undrafted free agent out of Florida State, connected on 2 of 3 passes for 25 yards.
Detroit QB Kyle Allen went 9-for-14 for 91 yards with two interceptions, and Hendon Hooker wound up 3-for-6 for 18 yards with an interception. Lions wide receiver Dominic Lovett logged five receptions for 31 yards.

Gambling company offers vulgar bets after two WNBA games are interrupted by flying sex toys

One online gambling website has offered six vulgar bets after two WNBA games have been interrupted by flying sex toys about the next possible instance of the unique disruption. has six futures bets about a possible next act for sex toys at a WNBA game, which could all be combined into a parlay. One bet asks for the color of the sex toy, with six different options, should the device not be green, like the previous two disruptions. A separate bet asks whether it will be green at all. Another bet asks how the sex toy will be handled first by whoever takes it off the court, with hands or feet being the options. A third wager asks which half of the court will be the landing spot for the dildo - the home team's or the away side. A sport crossover bet asks if the next sex toy thrown onto the court at a WNBA game will be the same color as the Gatorade poured on Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni after he led his team to victory in February's Super Bowl. Sky star Kamilla Cardoso saw the funny side as she joked about the incident with teammates In shocking scenes during the Chicago Sky's game against the Golden State Valkyries on Friday, the sex object was hurled from the stands during the third quarter. Officials swiftly stopped the game and swept the bright green object aside, as players and coaches stood bemused at the bizarre incident. The commentators were equally as puzzled as they said: 'We have a whistle away from the basketball. An object has been thrown onto the court'. Sky star Kamilla Cardoso, however, evidently saw the funny side to the incident after being seen giggling with teammates while they game was brought to a stop. Officials eventually swept the fluorescent green object to the side before one team member picked it up - using a towel - and disposed of it. It's fair to say that officials handled the situation with far more efficiency compared to the incident that occurred just four days before. During the Atlanta Dream's clash against Valkyries on Tuesday night, a similar looking object was thrown from the stands however officials let the possession continue. Eventually, once the possession came to an end, officials brought an abrupt halt to the game as they addressed the bizarre situation. Players, coaches and fans were left bemused by the incident and evidently so were the broadcast team, who briefly cut to a close up of the sex toy. Eventually, after a minute of deliberation, the sex toy was collected by a police officer who had been courtside and was taken away. Footage appeared to show the officer being handed a piece of cloth by a fan, in order to pick up the lewd object. The betting website appears to have removed the WNBA futures bets about the sex toy on Saturday afternoon.

RB Leipzig 'REJECT' Newcastle's record £69.9m bid for Benjamin Sesko - in potential blow for Alexander Isak's hopes of a Liverpool move

Newcastle's search for Alexander Isak's successor has hit a snag - as RB Leipzig have reportedly rejected their opening bid for Benjamin Sesko. Toon submitted a club record bid of £69.9million for Sesko, 22, but have been told the structure of their offer is insufficient. It comes as a blow to Alexander Isak, whose hopes of a move to Liverpool likely hinge on Newcastle being able to install a capable replacement first. Mail Sport has exclusively reported that Liverpool plan to return with a second approach for Isak after having their initial bid of £100m quickly snubbed. Newcastle are looking at Sesko - who is also admired by Manchester United - as well as Brentford 's Yoane Wissa, who has refused to train in a ploy to force through a move. But they will have to improve their offer if they are to land Sesko, as The Athletic reports that their first has been rejected by RB Leipzig. On Saturday the club made an official bid for Sesko comprising of a £65.5million up-front fee plus an additional £4.4m in add-ons. That would smash the £60m they splashed on Isak from Real Sociedad in 2022. Sesko is apparently yet to make up his mind as to whether he would prefer to join Newcastle or United. However, reports from Sesko's native Slovenia claimed on Friday that Sesko would prefer a move to St James' Park this summer. United's interest has been led by director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, who previously worked with Sesko at RB Salzburg and described the 6ft 4in forward as having the potential to become one of the world's leading players. The Old Trafford club are said to have named Sesko their No 1 target in recent weeks, having previously been linked with a move for Aston Villa marksman Ollie Watkins. Meanwhile, Isak is now seemingly agitating for a move and did not join Newcastle on their pre-season tour of Asia. The club explained his absence with the excuse of a 'minor thigh injury' but his scans came back clear and he has been training at the facilities of his old club Real Sociedad. He has since returned to Tyneside. Howe admitted this week that he had not been made aware of Isak's plans to return to the Basque club for rehabilitation and that he had instead found out through media reports. 'I know where he is, really, through the media,' Howe told Mail Sport as Newcastle stopped in Seoul as part of their pre-season tour. 'From that perspective, it's difficult for me to go into any kind of detail. The situation is far from ideal and is quite complex.' Newcastle are holding out for a fee upwards of £150m for Isak, who has scored 52 goals combined in the last two seasons.
