Indonesian oil tycoon sought in graft probe reportedly in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Indonesian authorities believe oil tycoon Riza Chalid, a suspect in a major fuel import corruption case, is currently in Malaysia, as efforts intensify to track down his whereabouts. Accoring to a Tempo magazine's report, Indonesia's immigration directorate general, under the Law and Human Rights Ministry, said it is working closely with its Malaysian counterparts to confirm Riza's location. Acting immigration director-general Yuldi Yusman confirmed that Riza had left Indonesia and had yet to return. "His whereabouts are suspected to be in Malaysia at the moment," he was quoted as saying. According to immigration records, Riza has been in Malaysia since Feb 6, following his departure from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Riza was recently named as a suspect in a corruption investigation involving fuel imports by subsidiaries of Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company. The scandal has reportedly caused losses amounting to trillions of rupiah. Authorities said there was sufficient evidence to implicate the businessman, with the probe so far leading to the arrest of seven individuals, among them Riza's son, Kerry Adrianto. Earlier, Abdul Qohar, Director of Investigation at the Indonesian Attorney-General's Office, had suggested that Riza might be in Singapore. However, Yuldi confirmed on Monday that Riza is no longer believed to be there. Riza remains on Indonesia's wanted list as authorities pursue cross-border cooperation to bring him to justice.

Amy Search files report against Shila Amzah over attack claim

Veteran rocker Amy Search, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, had given his statements to the police last night. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Veteran rocker Amy Search has lodged a police report against singer Shila Amzah following her claim that she was attacked by a senior artiste during a concert rehearsal at the Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that a report from Amy, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, was received last night. 'Yes, a report was lodged, but it was more of a 'counter report' and a denial. The case has been referred to the Dang Wangi police headquarters,' he said, according to Berita Harian. Earlier, Harian Metro reported that Amy had given his statement at the Shah Alam police headquarters yesterday. This follows an allegation that Amy had scolded Shila during the concert rehearsal last Thursday. On Friday, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said an investigation paper into Shila's claim had been opened following a report filed by her. The case is being investigated for criminal intimidation. Shila, whose full name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, claimed on Instagram that she was openly attacked in front of crew members during the rehearsal. Several veteran and popular artistes have been lined up for the concert.

CIA spotlights Malaysian coins found at spy statue

According to a statement on the agency's official website, CIA officers often leave coins at the foot of the statue before embarking on overseas assignments. — Photo via X/CIA KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): Three Malaysian coins have drawn unexpected attention after appearing in a weekly artefact spotlight by the United States' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The coins — a 20 sen piece from 2018, a 10 sen coin from 2017, and a 5 sen coin from 2018 — were featured on the CIA's official X account, where the agency regularly highlights curious or meaningful items from its archives. They were discovered at the base of the Nathan Hale statue located outside the CIA's original headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Each coin carried small, distinctive illustrations: the 20 sen coin featured a stick figure, the 10 sen coin appeared to depict a woman or child, while the 5 sen coin bore what looked like an animal footprint. The CIA did not disclose who placed the coins there or when they were left. According to a statement on the agency's official website, CIA officers often leave coins at the foot of the statue before embarking on overseas assignments. 'According to legend, doing so brings good luck and is believed to ensure Hale protects the officer throughout their mission,' the CIA said. Nathan Hale is considered the first intelligence officer in American history. He was executed in 1776 at the age of 21 after being captured while spying on British troops during the American Revolutionary War. The statue depicts him with hands bound, gazing resolutely into the distance. While US quarter-dollar coins featuring George Washington are most commonly left behind, some officers opt for coins with symbolic or personal significance — including foreign coins like the Malaysian ones, or coin combinations such as 76 cents to commemorate the year 1776. The CIA Museum periodically collects the coins left at the statue. Proceeds from the collection are donated to the CIA Officers Memorial Foundation and the Third Option Foundation, which support wounded officers and the families of those killed in the line of duty. – Malay Mail cia Malaysian coins spy statue us
