England crash to heavy India defeat that reveals Bazball flaw
England crashed to a 336-run defeat in the second Test against India as they were unable to dig deep enough to steal a draw at Edgbaston. For the first time in three years of the 'Bazball' era England accepted that a stalemate was the best they could hope for, attempting to frustrate the tourists on the final day rather than hunt an astronomical target of 608. But a team who have made their name as thrill-seeking fourth-innings chasers were not built to produce a day-long rearguard and were bowled out for 271 with 27 overs still in front of them. Jamie Smith was their best performer in front of a heavily pro-India crowd, following up a career-best 184 not out in the first innings with 88 in the second, but even he was unable to knuckle down for the long haul. He was caught on the boundary attempting to pull a third consecutive six, going down with a flourish rather than a fight. England's fate had been mostly sealed in the first session, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook both dismissed in the first half-hour to leave the hosts 83-5 and Ben Stokes lbw to the last ball before lunch. Akash Deep took the plaudits with 6-99 to complete a 10-wicket match and India will be licking their lips at the prospect of pairing him with Jasprit Bumrah at Lord's in next week's third Test. Heavy morning showers pushed the start back by an hour and 40 minutes, though rejigged session times meant only 10 of the scheduled 90 overs were lost. That nudged England's required run-rate up to 6.7 an over, effectively removing whatever sliver of optimism they had about embarking on a world record run chase. Instead, the game was all about India's hunt for wickets. It did not take long for them to open their account, danger man Deep taking just seven balls. Pope had watched his first over from the non-striker's end but was removed at the first time of asking, failing to smother the bounce as he deflected it back into his stumps off his arm. He threw his head back in frustration, gone for 24 to follow his golden duck on day two. Brook enjoyed considerably better fortunes in the first innings, making 158, but he was sent on his way in Deep's next over as the pitch began to offer some serious assistance. Targeting a sizeable crack just short of a good length, the seamer hit the jackpot as the ball jagged back dramatically and pinned a wrongfooted Brook on the inside of the knee. DRS upheld the umpire's lbw decision as Brook limped away beaten and bruised. Deep could easily have taken a third in a consistently menacing opening spell, Stokes just escaping a drag-on and Smith's stumps somehow surviving two near misses in four balls. The pair rallied for a workmanlike partnership worth 70, but India reaped the rewards of hustling one extra over before lunch. Ravindra Jadeja looked to be bowling the last over but dashed through it so quickly there was time for another. Washington Sundar used it to decisive effect, beat Stokes' flat-bat defence and striking him clean in front for 33. Batting looked increasingly treacherous as India used spin at both ends at the start of the afternoon session but attacking fields allowed Smith to score briskly on his way to another half-century. He took 17 off a single over from Sundar, including two hearty blows for six and a guided edge for four, to hasten the return of the quick men. The switch proved costly for Chris Woakes, who was tempted into pulling Prasidh Krishna and skied a top-edge up in the air. India prodded Smith's ego by asking Deep to bowl bouncers at him and, while the first two sailed into the stands, he shovelled the third into Sundar's hands. Number 10 Josh Tongue was expertly caught by Mohammed Siraj and Brydon Carse thrashed 38 before skying Deep to India captain Shubman Gill, whose magnificent match haul of 430 runs paved the way for his side.

But she was called out by Katherine Jenkins for her faux pas. Welsh singer Jenkins stunned the crowd with an emotional rendition of Amazing Grace as the roof moved across and then followed it up by singing Bryan Adams' (Everything I Do) I Do It for You. Then she called Barker out for her mistake - after spotting the former British No1 wearing heels on Wimbledon's hallowed Centre Court turf. "You know, because obviously the rules are that you're not allowed to wear heels on the Centre Court grass. It was hugely embarrassing." Incredibly, a decade-and-a-half later, Jenkins reminded Barker of her blunder - in front of tennis great Billie Jean King. Barker added: "Without so much as a hello, Katherine pointed me out to her husband like she was identifying a criminal in a police line-up. "She blurted out, 'SHE broke the rules on Centre Court.' "That was 2009 – nearly 15 years ago – and her first association on seeing me again was to recall my illegal high heels. 5 Wimbledon 2025 LIVE - follow all the latest scores and updates from a thrilling fortnight at SW19 "But we had a lovely chat, another really special time just relaxing with someone rather than the fleeting catch-ups I had when I was relentlessly working." Barker hung up her microphone and retired from the BBC hosting gig in emotional scenes in 2022. She returned in 2024 for Andy Murray's farewell ceremony. And then for this year's Championships, Barker fronted an advert for Emirates as she checked the height of the nets, the length of the grass, the colour of the flowers, the cleanliness of the staircase and the bounce of the balls on the courts - before finishing off the clip with a spot of afternoon tea at the All England Club. The former Question of Sport host has largely remained out of the public eye since her BBC departure. And that meant she turned down the chance to front Sky Sports' tennis coverage of the ATP and WTA Tours. 5 Barker returned to Wimbledon last year for Andy Murray's farewell send-off Credit: Getty

But her jaw dropped open and she placed a hand in front of her face to hide her surprised reaction when he opened his blazer jacket to reveal he was wearing a shirt of her on it too. This comes after a rough patch - ever since he got arrested and charged with a DWI and when he faced backlash after postponing his concert shows last minute amid his album flop. While he was performing at the festival on Saturday, Biel was also there in California with him to show her support amid his recent controversies. And vice versa, he publicly showed off his adoration for his wife of 13 years. The pair have been married since 2012 and are parents to two sons, Silas, 10, and Phineas, four. The Grammy winner revealed that his shirt was custom-made and captioned his post showing off his shirt featuring a stunning shot of his wife from her 2004 photoshoot for Giant magazine. 'We out here fan girling,' he wrote in his caption alongside two heart-eye emojis. Biel also reshared his post and said he 'really outdid the doer' with the surprise. She also posted the photo of them together, staring into each other's eyes and with mirroring smiles, with a red heart emoji and another of her fingers crossed. For his headlining set, Timberlake sported the distressed, custom shirt alongside white pants, a matching button-down shirt and a checkered blazer jacket. He also threw on some tinted sunglasses for his performance. Cheering him on from the audience, Biel donned her shirt featuring his Justified album, which won him multiple Grammys in the noughties, paired with high-waisted, dark jeans and small, retro shades. In the video of them showing off their outfits to each other, the SexyBack hitmaker walked toward Biel in his trailer and asked her to show her outfit to the camera. 'Let me see your T-shirt, babe,' the Friends With Benefits actor said. 'Oh, is that what you're doing?' She replied: 'That's what I'm doing.' Then, Timberlake opened his button-down dramatically with a 'bam' to show her what he was wearing. While Biel was reacting with surprise and laughing, the NSYNC member said he and his team 'made' the shirt just for the particular performance. He said he even asked one of their two kids if they recognized who was on his shirt prior to the festival. He said he even asked one of their two kids if they recognized who was on his shirt prior to the festival Earlier this month, Biel spoke to InStyle and in her cover story, she opened up about her and her husband's history with T-shirts. She admitted that she once stole of his shirts almost 20 years ago and never returned it to him as she was comforted by his smell that lingered on his clothes. 'I would always want to have something of his to travel with,' she confessed. 'You know, something that just makes you feel like home, makes you feel connected to that person.' She explained: 'It smelled like him, now it smells like me, which is a bummer.' She said the shirt, which was her husband's childhood clothing, was 'on its last leg' but remains resilient as it has become a token of their lasting romance. 'I think having a partnership that understands this industry and adjacent industries has been deeply important and profound for my life and for our partnership because he just understands when I'm working crazy long hours and I understand that for him too.' She added: 'I get it when he works all night long. That's kinda normal and I know that.' His latest performance comes amid his 'trainwreck' tour — The Forget Tomorrow World Tour. His wife was reportedly in the audience cheering him on as they both proudly sported T-shirts with each other emblazoned across the front He has faced backlash for canceling multiple shows last minute during the world tour, which had been marred with controversy in recent months. Most recently, he canceled his final concert in Columbus, Ohio in February due to illness, but fans were left furious as they had already been lining up with minutes left before the doors would be opened when they found out. Timberlake has also been slammed for performing very few of his nostalgic hits and rather singing songs nearly all from his latest album, Everything I Thought It Was, an album that few concertgoers seemed to know the words to and had been branded a commercial failure. Back in June 2024, Timberlake was pulled over under the suspicion of drunk driving in Long Island. On June 18, it was reported that he failed a series of sobriety tests at the time, according to a police report exclusively obtained by He accepted a plea deal following his arrest, which saw bodycam footage going viral when he was seen telling the officer, who did not know who he was, that the arrest 'would ruin the world tour.'
