The chartered bus, carrying the students from Jertih, Terengganu, had departed at 9 pm on Sunday and was heading to the university's campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, when the accident occurred.

IGP: Don't derail Zara Qairina probe with 3R speculation
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 2 — All negative comments regarding the student bullying case in Sabah that could cause anxiety and touch on 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty) issues should cease immediately. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that sufficient space must be given to the police to complete their investigation fully. 'I call upon all parties to give space to the police to continue the investigation,' he said. 'Negative comments and public perceptions linking this to 3R issues sometimes make it difficult for us to resolve the investigation and so on.' Commenting further on the bullying case involving the death of a student from Sipitang, the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, on July 17, Mohd Khalid informed that so far, statements have been recorded from 60 witnesses, including students, staff and teachers. 'So, we have obtained many things, much information, and the investigation papers have been completed and submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman. We will then bring them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further action,' he explained. Mohd Khalid, who was met by the media after paying a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Musa Aman on Saturday, said the visit aimed to discuss security and stability issues in Sabah. In Pudu, wife shocked after learning policeman husband was stabbed during KL patrol
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The wife of a police corporal stabbed while on patrol in Pudu last week described her shock upon receiving a call from the hospital requesting immediate consent for emergency surgery. Norfazliana Osman, 35, said she was at their home in the Pudu police quarters when Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, contacted her around 1 pm on Thursday. 'They said they needed to operate immediately and asked for consent as part of his intestines might need to be removed due to the stab wound,' she told reporters at the hospital today. Her husband, Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman, remains in stable condition but is still weak and requires pain management, she said. 'I understand the risks of his job as a policeman, but as a wife, the fear is always there,' said Norfazliana, who has two children aged 11 and seven. She said it is uncertain how long her husband will remain hospitalised, but confirmed their children have been informed of his condition. Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Mohd Nadzri at the hospital. Also present were Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras district police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Police conclude probe into Zara Qairina's death, 60 witnesses interviewed
KUANTAN, Aug 2 — Police have completed their investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, who was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory on July 16. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said about 60 witnesses from various parties had been interviewed in connection with the case. 'The investigation is complete. I expect the police will submit the papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers by next week at the latest,' he said when asked about developments in the case. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Passing-Out Parade for the 12/2024 Maritime Junior Lieutenant Basic Course and the 18/2024 Maritime Class II Cadet Basic Course at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) here today. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. Her death sparked widespread reactions on social media after the case went viral. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun was previously reported as saying investigations focused on two main aspects, namely the cause of death and the surrounding circumstances. Meanwhile, Saifuddin said the government remains committed to strengthening the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) operational capabilities, including through the construction of two additional Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV). He said MMEA is also in the process of acquiring a decommissioned United States Coast Guard Cutter, expected to arrive in November.
