VVS Laxman's role in India U19 players getting to watch Shubman Gill's knock
The India U19 team, led by coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, is in England for five Youth ODIs and two Youth Tests. Kanitkar revealed in a video posted by the BCCI that it was National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman who arranged for the boys to watch the senior team's Test match at Edgbaston.
'VVS Laxman was instrumental in arranging this. He was the one who actually said that it would be a good thing to go and watch this game. It's definitely a special occasion for any upcoming cricketer to be at a Test venue,' Kanitkar said.

The day turned out to be a successful one for India. Gill was in top form, sharing a massive 203-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored a solid 89. He later stitched another 144-run stand with Washington Sundar. Thanks to Gill's knock, India posted a huge total of 587 in the first innings.
By the end of Day 2, India had already removed three English batters, putting themselves in a commanding position. On Day 3, the momentum continued as Mohammed Siraj struck early, dismissing Joe Root and Ben Stokes in the same over. But a big partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith brought England back into the game.
They put on a 303-run stand for the sixth wicket and helped the hosts score 407 runs. India then scored 64/1 in their second innings and currently lead by 244 runs. KL Rahul and Karun Nair will resume India's innings on Day 4. India will look to post a target of over 400 before declaring the innings.

India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh pushed back to 2026; find out why

India's white-ball tour to Bangladesh, scheduled for August this year has been deferred to September 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a release on Saturday. The series, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is, was pushed back due to scheduling conflicts 'The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026. This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,' a BCCI release stated. 'The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,' it added. India's home season is slated to begin in October, with the Asia Cup T20 tournament and two Tests against West Indies in October. They will also travel to Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is in October-November before finishing the 2025 season with an all-format home series against South Africa. Last year, India ended their 2024 calendar year with a bag of mixed results across formats with the T20I team shining the brightest. India lifted the T20 World Cup in June and finished with a commanding record of 22 wins from 26 matches. In their only ODI series of the year in Sri Lanka, India suffered a 2-1 defeat before finishing their Test season with eight wins, six losses and a draw in 15 matches.

ENG vs IND 2nd Test Day 4 Session 1: Pant rides luck to maul English attack

India, despite losing their overnight batters KL Rahul (55) and Karun Nair (26), are still pretty much in control of the match after finishing the first session with the scoreboard reading 177 for 3 and their lead at 357 runs. India started the day in a steady manner with the overnight score at 64 for 1. The pair of KL Rahul and Karun Nair got occasional boundaries off Brendon Crase, who continued to try different lines in each over, while keeping things simple off Chris Woakes, who had a few big appeals only to be denied by the umpire. Unexpectedly, Brendon Crase was the one who finally got the first breakthrough of the day by getting Karun Nair (26) caught behind by Jamie Smith. A few overs later, England took an LBW appeal against Shubman Gill, who came out to bat after Nair. But just like the review taken against him in the first innings, Gill survived due to an inside edge. Amidst all the commotion, KL Rahul silently kept ticking the scoreboard with cautious shots and finally went on to bring up his 18th Test half-century in 78 deliveries. But his innings came to a close after adding just five more to his total, as he was dismissed for 55 by Josh Tongue, with England continuing to crawl back into the game. But then arrived Pant, who in his first five balls scored a four and a six to put the pressure back on England. He was also dropped by Crawley in the very next over off Stokes. Pant continued to attack, adding quick runs for India, sending a wave of frustration through the English camp. He got another lifeline on 31 after Woakes dropped his catch, as India crossed the 100-run mark in the session. India ended up adding 113 runs in the session to extend their lead to 357 runs. They will have in-form Rishabh Pant (41 not out) and Shubman Gill (24 not out) still at the crease when they return for the second session of the day, looking for quick runs.
