PENAMPANG: Over 300 Sabah entrepreneurs attended the first Madani Entrepreneurs Seminar: e-Invoice on Tuesday, aimed at boosting awareness of the government's mandatory e-Invoice system. The one-day seminar, organised by the National Entrepreneurship Institute (Insken), took place at the Penampang Cultural Hall here. The programme focused on helping micro and small businesses understand e-Invoicing processes required by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN). Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick officiated the event. Insken Board of Trustees Chairman Mustaffa Kamil Ayub said the success of e-Invoicing depends on both awareness and proper understanding among entrepreneurs. 'Without awareness, change is difficult and without knowledge, implementation will be shaky,' he said. He urged entrepreneurs to embrace change, keep learning and stay responsive to current market needs. Insken Chief Executive Officer Viviantie Sarjuni said a total of 900 entrepreneurs are expected to benefit through three seminar series, with the coming sessions in Kuching and the Klang Valley. 'Today's turnout shows that small business owners are eager to adapt and comply with digital systems like e-Invoicing,' she said. The seminar was supported by the Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Sabah (Mide), the Department of Women's Affairs Sabah Jhewa, the Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat), the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Sabah and other state-level agencies and non-governmental organisations. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? RM13 million agreements to develop the agri sector

Published on: Sunday, August 03, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 03, 2025 Text Size: Arthur (centre) with signatories involved in the signing of agreements. KOTA KINABALU: A total of RM13 million in agreements were sealed through three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in an effort to develop the agriculture sector and enhance the country's food security. The MoUs were signed between the Keningau Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK Keningau) and Absolute Moringa Sdn Bhd (AM), the Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP) and Desa Keningau Livestock Industries Sdn Bhd (DKLI), and between LPP and Sawit Kinabalu Farm Products Sdn Bhd (SKFP). Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the first agreement, worth RM10 million, involves collaboration between PPK Keningau and AM in marketing and distributing agricultural inputs to empower the business and supply services of farmers' organisations for both members and non-members in Sabah. The second agreement, valued at RM3 million, was signed between LPP and DKLI to carry out a corn grain planting project, aimed at boosting local corn production through a corporate approach and technology transfer. 'I was informed the project will begin soon. It has long-term impact, particularly in reducing our dependency on imported corn grain used as livestock feed, which would indirectly increase supply and lower farming costs. 'The third MoU between LPP and SKFP involves technical cooperation for the implementation of an integrated oil palm-cattle breeding project. 'Although the project has no monetary value, it serves to optimise land use for integrated livestock farming under several high-impact initiatives,' he said after the MoU ceremony involving LPP in conjunction with the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day celebration. Arthur said the collaborations are expected to bring significant benefits, especially to local communities. 'These high-impact projects reflect strong cooperation between the Government and private sector in driving agricultural growth and enhancing food security. 'At the same time, by increasing the production of resources like corn grain, we can reduce import dependency, improve economic outcomes and make livestock farming more accessible and cost-effective for local farmers,' he added. He said the Government-private sector partnerships are important to ensure that the economic spillover reaches nearby communities. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? PacifiCity buyers lose court bid

Published on: Sunday, August 03, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 03, 2025 Text Size: Kota Kinabalu: The High Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by PacifiCity condominium purchasers against Sabah Development Bank Berhad (SDB), dealing a blow to seeking compensation for the troubled mixed-use development. The suit, initiated by the PacifiCity Project Purchasers Welfare Association, was brought against five parties involved in the troubled project in Kota Kinabalu - Apex Juta Sdn Bhd (developer of the residential component), Pacific Sanctuary Holdings Sdn Bhd (developer of the commercial component), Majlis Kebajikan dan Rekreasi Kakitangan Kerajaan Negeri Sabah (Maksak), the landowner, Kuok Khoon Ping @ Kuek Koon Ping, the director of the developer and SDB, the project's bridging financier. The purchasers alleged that SDB was negligent, breached its duty of care and failed to safeguard their interests following the abandonment of the project, despite the issuance of a Certificate of Practical Completion in November 2020. Messrs Ronny Cham & Co appeared for the plaintiffs, while SDB was represented by Messrs Tan, Arthur Borine & Partners, who submitted that the plaintiffs' claims were riddled with legal misconceptions, unsupported by evidence and internally inconsistent. They characterised the suit as a broad attempt to target every possible party in the hope of extracting compensation. They argued it would not be fair, just, or reasonable to impose a duty of care on the bank in the circumstances, and urged the court to dismiss the claim in its entirety. The court concurred with the bank's position and dismissed the claim against SDB in full. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the solar farm development is expected to generate 15 megawatts (MW) of clean energy, thus stabilising the State's grid system, which is currently still dependent on diesel and natural gas-based power generation. 'This project will not only solve the electricity supply issue, especially on the East Coast, but also shape a cleaner, more stable and resilient energy future by project will balance the energy distribution between the west and east coasts of the State,' he said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the LSS Q-Solar Tawau project in Jalan Timur, here, Saturday. The text of the speech was read out by Assistant Minister to the Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan. Hajiji said the implementation of the project was in line with the State's Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan (SERAMP), which is the long-term roadmap for the transformation of Sabah's energy sector. The development of the LSS project, he said, would bring various economic benefits to the local community, including investment and job creation through various phases such as the construction and operation of solar farms.
