New Delhi [India], April 28 (ANI): Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra said that the mindset of India's young generation has changed remarkably over the years, with many now preferring to become entrepreneurs rather than seeking jobs in multinational companies (MNCs).
The Governor stated this during his speech at the US-India Economic Forum, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), in Washington DC.
He pointed out that this growing culture of entrepreneurship has helped India build a strong start-up ecosystem. Today, the country has around 150,000 recognised start-ups, supported by government initiatives such as Start-Up India, Digital India, and the Atal Innovation Mission.
Malhotra said that India now has the third-largest number of unicorns in the world, with several emerging from high-tech sectors like Artificial Intelligence, fintech, and renewable energy.
He also noted that India has improved its position significantly in the Global Innovation Index, climbing from the 81st rank in 2015 to the 39th position in 2024. Among lower-middle-income countries, India now ranks first.
Emphasising the importance of using India's vast human resources effectively, Malhotra said, ' It is encouraging to note that India is fast becoming a nation of job creators rather than job seekers.'
Speaking on government reforms, the RBI Governor said that digitalisation of various schemes, such as linking the public distribution system with Aadhar, has led to massive savings. The just-in-time flow of funds to state governments has also helped the Union government manage its cash flow better.

TNPGCL keeps all options, including PPP, open to execute 660-MW Ennore Thermal Power Station expansion project
Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TNPGCL) has kept all options open for developing the stranded 660-MW Ennore Thermal Power Station (ETPS) expansion project including public private partnership (PPP) route, as the Union government's revised policy for coal linkages has provisions for projects selected through tariff based competitive bidding. As per the State Energy Department's policy note for 2025-26, ETPS Expansion Thermal Power Project has faced significant challenges over the years. Two EPC contractors ( Lanco Infra Tech Ltd and BGR Energy Systems Ltd ) were terminated due to slow progress and poor performance, it said. Considering the present energy scenario it has been envisaged to execute the project under PPP mode. A purchase order was issued to SBI CAPS on 02.09.2024 for Engaging Transaction Advisory Services for the preparation of Feasibility Report for the execution of 1x660 MW ETPS Expansion project from 'as is where is basis condition' through PPP mode. Pre-draft Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) has been received from M/s. SBI CAPS and is currently under review, the policy note added. However, earlier there was one hindrance for the project to be executed under the PPP mode. According to agenda for a meeting of Southern Regional Power Committee, the Union Ministry of Coal had informed that coal linkage will not be allotted to projects under PPP mode or those implemented by private companies and Coal will only be allotted if the project is executed by a Central Government entity, State utility, or under a joint venture of such entities. Meanwhile, the Union government approved a revised Shakti Policy 2025 for coal allocation in May this year. As per the Methodologies for allocation and earmarking of coal linkages under the revised policy notified by the Union Power Ministry, Coal linkages may be earmarked to the State Governments looking to tie up power through tariff based competitive bidding. State Governments may allocate the earmarked coal linkage to Thermal Power Projects which are under planning or under construction or commissioned or also to projects to be selected through tariff based competitive bidding, it said. Meanwhile, Union Ministry of Power has requested the Standing Linkage Committee (Long-Term) for Power Sector to consider the request of Tamil Nadu government to earmark long-term coal linkage to TNPGCL under the revised policy for conducting tariff based competitive bidding to develop and procure 660 MW of power from stranded Ennore TPS Expansion project. TNPGCL has also sought cancellation of the long term coal linkage allocated to the project under the provisions which were applicable to only Central / State generation companies, as per the agenda for the meeting of the Standing Linkage Committee (Long-Term) for Power Sector. A senior TNPGCL said the utility is working with Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board on execution of the project and all options including PPP are still open.

73 Palestinians killed while trying to access aid in Gaza, witnesses claim Israeli military shot at crowd
Around 73 Palestinians were killed while trying to access humanitarian aid at different locations across Gaza on Sunday, reported news agency Associated Press. The maximum number of casualties were reported from northern Gaza, where at least 67 people were killed while entering the region through the Zikim crossing with Israel, the report said citing the health ministry in the Palestinian territory and local hospitals. It is not clear yet whether they were killed by the Israeli army or armed gangs or both. However, some witnesses claimed that the Israeli military shot at the crowd, said the report. According to health workers, hundreds of people have been killed by Israeli fire while trying to access the Gaza Humanitarian Fund's, or GHF, a US- and Israel-backed group, distribution sites. Over 150 people were also wounded in the attacks, with some of them in critical condition. Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced new evacuation warnings for areas of central Gaza on Sunday. The announcement came amid Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks in Qatar. The evacuation cuts access between the city of Deir al-Balah and the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis in the narrow enclave. The United Nations has asked Israel to clarify whether UN facilities in southwestern Deir al-Balah are included in Sunday's evacuation order, AP report said citing an unnamed UN official. The evacuation announcement covers an area stretching from a previously evacuated area all the way to the coast and will severely hamper movement for aid groups and civilians in Gaza. Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee warned that the military will attack 'with intensity' against militants. He called for residents, including those sheltering in tents, to head to the Muwasi area, a desolate tent camp on Gaza's southern shore that the Israeli military has designated a humanitarian zone. Earlier this month, the Israeli military had declared that it controlled more than 65% of the Gaza Strip.
