Saudi-Syrian cooperation foils attempt to smuggle over 200,000 amphetamine tablets

RIYADH — Col. Talal Al-Shalhoub, security spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, stated that proactive security efforts to monitor criminal networks involved in drug trafficking have led to the foiling of an attempt to smuggle more than 200,000 amphetamine tablets from Syria to Saudi Arabia. The operation was carried out by the Syrian Ministry of Interior, based on intelligence provided by the Saudi Ministry of Interior.
Al-Shalhoub praised the strong collaboration with Syrian authorities in tracking and seizing the narcotics, highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation in combating such illicit activities. He affirmed that the Kingdom remains committed to monitoring and combating criminal activities that target the Kingdom, its youth, and the global community with drugs, and will continue to take firm action to foil such attempts and apprehend those involved in such crimes.

Saudi security forces arrest 13,532 illegals in a week
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — A total of 13,532 illegal residents were arrested in Saudi Arabia in a week. The arrests were made during the inspections, carried out by the security forces in collaboration with the relevant government agencies, during the period between June 19 and June 25, the Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday. Those who were arrested include 7,903 violators of the Residency Law, 3,744 violators of the Border Security Law, and 1,885 violators of the Labor Law. The ministry said that a total of 9,479 illegals were deported while 6,225 violators were referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents and 2,072 violators were referred to complete their travel reservations. The total number of people who were arrested while trying to cross the border into the Kingdom accounted for 1,892, of whom 31 percent were Yemeni nationals, 67 percent Ethiopian nationals, and two percent belonged to other nationalities. Some 17 people, involved in giving transportation, shelter, and employment for violators, were also arrested. A total of 11,908 illegal residents, including 10,783 men and 1,125 women, are currently undergoing various phases of legal procedures as part of punitive measures against them. The Ministry of Interior has warned that any person, who facilitates the illegal entry of individuals into the Kingdom, transports them on its territory, provides them with shelter or any other assistance or service may be penalized with up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to SR1 million. It noted that the vehicles used for transportation or houses used for giving shelter will be confiscated. The ministry urged the public to report any cases of violation by calling the number 911 in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province and the numbers 999 and 996 in the rest of the Kingdom's regions.

Kingdom arrests 13,532 illegals in one week
Riyadh: Saudi authorities arrested 13,532 people in one week for breaching residency, work and border security regulations, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday. A total of 7,903 people were arrested for violations of residency laws, while 3,744 were held over illegal border crossing attempts, and a further 1,885 for labor-related issues. The report showed that among the 1,892 people arrested for trying to enter the Kingdom illegally, 67 percent were Ethiopian, 31 percent Yemeni, and 2 percent were of other nationalities. A further 34 people were caught trying to cross into neighboring countries, and 17 were held for involvement in transporting and harboring violators, the SPA reported. The Ministry of Interior said that anyone found to be facilitating illegal entry to the Kingdom, including providing transportation and shelter, could face imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years, a fine of up to SR1 million ($267,000), as well as confiscation of vehicles and property. Suspected violations can be reported on the toll-free number 911 in the Makkah and Riyadh regions, and 999 or 996 in other regions of the Kingdom.

Syrian charged over plot to attack Taylor Swift Vienna concert
VIENNA — A young Syrian national has been charged with supporting a foreign terror group over a foiled plot to attack a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna last August. Mohamed A, who is described by German authorities as a juvenile and not in custody, is accused of following the ideology of jihadist group Islamic State (IS) and helping another suspect to prepare the attack. Concert organisers called off Taylor Swift's three sold-out gigs on the eve of the first show at Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium last year, disappointing tens of thousands of fans during her Eras Tour. Authorities arrested several suspects at the time saying they appeared to have been inspired by IS and al-Qaeda. "Mohammad A has adhered since April 2024 at the latest to the ideology of the terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS)," Germany's federal public prosecutor said in a statement. "Between mid-July and August 2024, he was in contact with a young adult from Austria who was planning a bomb attack on a concert by singer Taylor Swift in Vienna." Sixty-five thousand fans had bought tickets for Swift's three concerts on 8-10 August, and the singer later apologised for the cancellation, speaking of the "tremendous amount of guilt" she felt. She said she had decided to throw all her energy into the shows at the end of her European tour in London. The main suspect in the case has been identified as Beran A, who authorities say was part of an IS cell in eastern Austria. Beran A, who is now 20 and from Ternitz south of Vienna, was arrested before the concerts following a tip-off by the CIA, which said the plotters had hoped to kill a large number of concert-goers. Investigators allege he had also planned to carry out an earlier attack in Dubai in March 2024. Reports suggested it was part of a co-ordinated plot involving three simultaneous IS attacks but Beran A had changed his mind at the last minute. According to the federal prosecutor in Germany, Mohammad A had helped the main suspect with a translation of bomb-making instructions from Arabic as well as making contact with a member of IS abroad over the internet.
