5 shows to watch this weekend that will take you to alien worlds

Alien worlds are a great way to indulge in those 'what if' questions and watchers get a chance to see how different life could look with just a twist of imagination. Watching a new planet unfold on screen with its strange landscapes and unfamiliar skies is the great escape. We selected some TV shows that help us escape from the daily grunt of life. These shows let you wander through alien cities, trek across wild terrain, and meet life forms that push the limits of what feels possible. Here are five series that do exactly that, each one serving up a fresh escape for anyone who's ever wondered what might be waiting out there, just beyond the next star. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount Plus) This show is a real treat for anyone who loves classic sci-fi exploration. Following Captain Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise, it's a fresh take that still honours the original spirit. The planets they visit look stunning, from dense alien jungles to icy wastelands and mysterious cities. Each episode feels like a new world, with detailed environments that make the galaxy feel vast and alive. Season 3, which came out recently, keeps pushing the boundaries with its visuals that will make you wish you had a spaceship. For All Mankind (Apple TV+) This alternate history series imagines a world where the space race never stopped, and the results are impressive. The show's depiction of Mars colonies and orbital stations is grounded in real science but doesn't skimp on imagination. The alien terrain on Mars looks both harsh and beautiful. It's a slower burn compared to some, but the visuals and world-building reward patience, making it easy to get drawn into this vision of humanity's future in space. The Expanse (Prime Video) Even though the show ended recently, it remains one of the best examples of detailed world-building in sci-fi. The solar system feels lived-in, gritty, and real, from the dusty asteroid belt to the frozen moons of Jupiter. The mix of political drama and alien technology, especially around the protomolecule, is definitely worth sitting through. The planets and stations are characters in their own right, each with a unique atmosphere and feel. 3 Body Problem (Netflix) Based on the celebrated Chinese sci-fi novels, this series offers something a little different, alien worlds that are strange, complex, and sometimes unsettling. The visual effects bring to life advanced civilisations and cosmic phenomena that feel truly alien. What would you do if you found out an alien civilisation was coming to obliterate your planet, but they're still too far in space and are now dropping clues? It's a cerebral show, with a focus on big ideas and epic scale, and the alien environments reflect that - looking both beautiful and mysterious in equal measure. Alien: Earth (FX) This one isn't out yet but is highly anticipated. It's a prequel to Ridley Scott's Alien films and promises a darker, more atmospheric take on extraterrestrial life. While much of the story is set on Earth, there are glimpses of alien tech and environments. Expect intense creature design and moody visuals that stay true to the franchise's horror roots while expanding the universe. These shows show alien worlds in ways that make those places feel real and inviting, strange and sometimes dangerous. Whether it's the hopeful exploration of Strange New Worlds or the gritty realism of The Expanse, there's plenty here to satisfy anyone looking to escape to the stars for a weekend binge. Anita Hassanandani Shares Cryptic Post About 'Signing Off' From Instagram: 'Irritated AF'

Last Updated: The post comes at a time when Anita is rumoured to be returning to reality TV. According to reports, she is one of the contestants in the upcoming show Goriya Chali Gaon. TV actress Anita Hassanandani has left her fans concerned after she shared a cryptic post about taking a break from social media. On Friday evening, the Yeh Hai Mohabbatein star announced her decision to sign off from Instagram, revealing that she's feeling 'irritated" without specifying the reason behind it. Taking to her official Instagram handle, Anita wrote, 'Sorry guys! Signing off…It's been loud for too long…time to hear myself again." She also shared an Instagram story hinting at her current mood and wrote that she's 'irritated AF." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anita H Reddy (@anitahassanandani) Her post quickly sparked reactions from fans and followers. One user commented, 'What happened can someone explain ?? Is everything okay !?" while another added, 'Mental health is the only priority. Take care of yourself." Several others sent well wishes, expressing concern and urging her to take care. The post comes at a time when Anita is rumoured to be returning to reality TV. According to reports, she is one of the contestants in the upcoming show Goriya Chali Gaon. The show is inspired by the Marathi hit Jau Bai Gavat and follows a unique format where 12 well-known women from the entertainment industry spend 10 weeks in a remote village, stripped of all urban luxuries. As part of the show's concept, participants will live without their phones and modern comforts and engage in everyday rural chores like milking cows, cooking on traditional chulhas, and fetching water from wells. Sources close to the production reveal that Anita recently met with the show's makers, discussed the concept in depth, and officially came on board. No stranger to reality television, Anita has previously been seen in shows like Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, Nach Baliye, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. While she hasn't confirmed her participation in Goriya Chali Gaon, her decision to step away from social media could be related to the show's strict format or a personal call for introspection before a challenging journey ahead. When Lalit Modi Called Sushmita Sen His "Better Half" And The Internet Lost It

Three years ago, fugitive billionaire Lalit Modi sent the Internet into a tizzy after he referred to Sushmita Sen, Bollywood star and former Miss Universe, as his "better half". In a post that still exists, the ex-commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) shared a series of pictures with the Aarya actor on X, when it was still called Twitter. Just back in london after a whirling global tour #maldives # sardinia with the families - not to mention my #betterhalf @sushmitasen47 - a new beginning a new life finally. Over the moon. 🥰😘😍😍🥰💕💞💖💘💓 — Lalit Kumar Modi (@LalitKModi) July 14, 2022 "Just back in London after a whirling global tour #maldives # sardinia with the families - not to mention my #betterhalf @sushmitasen47 - a new beginning, a new life finally. Over the moon," Lalit Modi wrote. What followed was a speculation storm. "Sushmita Sen marries Lalit Modi?" was what some of the headlines looked like. Within an hour, Lalit Modi issued a clarification. Just for clarity. Not married - just dating each other. That too it will happen one day. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 — Lalit Kumar Modi (@LalitKModi) July 14, 2022 "Just for clarity. Not married - just dating each other. That too it will happen one day," he wrote. A day later, Sushmita Sen shared a cryptic post on Instagram, saying she was "not married" but "unconditionally surrounded by love". View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sushmita Sen (@sushmitasen47) "I'm in a happy place! Not married... no rings... and unconditionally surrounded by love. Enough clarification given... Now back to life and work! Thank you for sharing my happiness, always ... And for those who don't... it's #NOYB anyway. I love you guys!" she wrote. The Main Hoon Na actor took no names in her post in which she shared a photograph with her daughters, Renee and Alisah. In the middle of the social media frenzy, a section of people on the Internet labelled Sushmita Sen as a "gold digger". Days later, she clapped back at trolls, saying it was amusing to see many unknown friends and acquaintances passing comments on her personal life. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sushmita Sen (@sushmitasen47) "The so called intellectuals with their ignorant with their cheap & at times funny gossip The friends I never had & the acquaintances I've never sharing their grand opinions & deep knowledge of my life & the 'Gold Digger' all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!! "I dig deeper than I've always (famously) preferred Diamonds!! And yes I still buy them myself!!!" she wrote. Months later, Lalit Modi deleted all the pictures with Sushmita Sen from his Instagram account and changed his bio and profile picture, fueling rumours of a split. In a 2023 interview, Sushmita Sen spoke about why she decided to reply to her naysayers with the post. "Sometimes I think when people keep quiet, their silence is mistaken for weakness or fear. I just needed to put out one post to let them know I am laughing. After that I was done with it. You can't be 47 years old having lived most of your life in the public eye and be afraid of the public... I have been one of those people who has been loved so much, that when this sort of stuff happens, I think it's okay, I accept it, sabki life mein kabhi na kabhi aisi kankan hoti hai. "But it in no way defines who I am. So, I had to put it out there to show, I find the memes funny, but if you are calling someone a gold digger, at least don't monetise it! Check your facts. I prefer diamonds, not gold... And if I was going to marry, I would be married to them, love. I don't try. I do it or I don't," she told Mid-Day. Earlier this year, Lalit Modi introduced his girlfriend Rima Bouri, a friend of 25 years, to the world on the occasion of Valentine's Day. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lalit Modi (@lalitkmodi) Lalit Modi is in the news once again. This time it's thanks to a video in which he is seen performing Frank Sinatra's "My Way" with Vijay Mallya, another fugitive billionaire, during a grand party in London over the last weekend. The video went viral in no time after Lalit Modi shared it on his Instagram page on Thursday.
