Kadapa Collector inspects MGNREGA works after MP's complaint
Inspecting the works at Vempalli mandal along with District Water Management Agency (DWMA) officials, he interacted with the workers and appealed to them to make use of the scheme. The work sites included water harvesting ponds for sweet lime orchards, where Mr. Sridhar learnt the farm management practices adopted by the orchard owners.
The Collector apparently made a visit to the sites after receiving a complaint from Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy on the widespread corruption and irregularities in the implementation of MGNREGA works in the State. In the complaint, Mr. Reddy had accused the TDP-led alliance government of 'systematically subverting' the scheme and resorting to large scale financial fraud, thus leading to exploration of vulnerable labourers.
The MP also brought to the notice of the Collector the issue of fake job cards to non-existent or politically-linked individuals by ignoring and threatening genuine job seekers, digital manipulation of attendance records by uploading the same photographs across multiple muster entries with different names, releasing wage payments for the works that have never executed based on forged documents and without proper ground verification.
.
The Collector later inspected the IIIT campus in Idupulapaya and offered prayers at the famous Gandi Anjaneyaswamy temple.

ED Files Charge Sheet Against Robert Vadra In Land Deal Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday filed a charge sheet against businessman Robert Vadra, son-in-law of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in connection with a money laundering case linked to a land deal in Haryana's Shikohpur. The prosecution complaint filed before the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) arrayed a total of 11 accused individuals/entities in the case, including Robert Vadra and his Sky Light Hospitality, Satyanand Yajee, Kewal Singh Virk, and Onkareshwar Properties. As per the ED's chargesheet, Vadra's Skylight Hospitality 'fraudulently' purchased 3.53 acres of land situated in the village of Shikohpur in Haryana's Gurugram district for Rs 7.5 crore from Onkareshwar Properties through 'false declaration'. It added that Vadra, 'through his personal influence', obtained a commercial license on the land purchased. The federal anti-money laundering agency said that 43 immovable properties worth Rs. 37.64 crores pertaining to Robert Vadra and his companies were attached on Wednesday. In April this year, Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was questioned in multiple rounds by the ED and his statement was recorded. The land purchase deal in question was executed in February 2008 when Congress was at the helm in Haryana, and Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the chief minister. The mutation process, which usually takes months, was done the next day. Months later, Vadra received a permit to develop a housing society on the land, and the value of the plot increased. He sold it to DLF in June at Rs 58 crore. Suspecting the proceeds to be part of a money laundering scheme, the ED has been probing the trail behind the windfall gains. In October 2012, IAS officer Ashok Khemka (now retired), who was then posted as the Director General of Land Consolidation and Land Records-cum-Inspector-General of Registration of Haryana, cancelled the land purchase deal, citing procedural irregularities. Later in 2013, an in-house government panel gave a clean chit to both Vadra as well as DLF. When the BJP-led government came to power, an FIR was registered by the Haryana Police against former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Robert Vadra and others.

After TDP, DMK suggests EC to allow Aadhaar, ration cards as valid date of birth proofs
Days after NDA ally, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), batted for Aadhaar cards to be made a valid document as proof of date of birth in electoral roll revisions, the M K Stalin-led DMK on Thursday made a similar suggestion to the Election Commission (EC). The DMK's suggestion also comes days after the Supreme Court on July 10, while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar, urged the poll body to consider allowing voters to furnish Aadhaar cards, voter IDs and ration cards as valid documents to prove their date and place of birth. The apex court asked the EC to file its counter-affidavit by July 21. A DMK delegation, headed by party MP N R Elango met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, as a part of the EC's meetings with national and state parties to take feedback on further strengthening electoral processes. Terming the meeting with the EC as 'fruitful' on social media, Elango said the poll panel assured that it would look into four of the five suggestions that the party had made. On the inclusion of Aadhaar, the MP said that the EC said the matter was sub-judice. As reported by The Indian Express, the EC on July 5 wrote to Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all states, directing them to begin preparations for a Bihar-like exercise with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. The DMK also urged the EC to implement its May 1 notification, which seeks to allow names of dead voters to be deleted by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) after getting information and verification from the Registrar of Births and Deaths by the Booth-Level Officer (BLO) instead of waiting for a family member to file Form 7. Claiming that no steps had been taken to implement this, the DMK in its letter said, 'Unless names of deceased voters are deleted, the purification of electoral rolls will never be complete.' The DMK also called for better coordination between EC-appointed BLOs and Booth-Level Agents (BLAs), who are appointed by political parties. According to Elango, the DMK was informed that the EC was in the process of translating its handbooks and manuals into Tamil and other official languages. Claiming that the new process of counting postal votes was 'causing confusion', the Stalin-led party also wanted the EC to revert to the earlier process, in which the penultimate round of counting EVM votes was withheld till postal ballots were accounted for. This process was changed in 2019 and allowed votes from EVMs to be counted irrespective of the status of postal ballot counting.

‘Morale of criminals is sky-high': Chirag Paswan hits out at Nitish govt over Bihar's law and order
A daylight murder inside a Patna hospital has triggered fresh political heat in Bihar, with Union minister and NDA ally Chirag Paswan renewing his attack on the Nitish Kumar-led government over the worsening law and order situation. Union minister Chirag Paswan slams Nitish government after daylight murder in Patna hospital. (HT File) 'Murders are happening every day. The morale of criminals is sky-high. The strategy of the police and administration is beyond comprehension. The attack inside Paras hospital in Patna's residential neighbourhood proves that criminals are openly challenging the law and administration,' Paswan wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). 'Criminal incidents right before the Bihar Assembly polls are worrying. Hopefully, the administration will soon take firm steps to bring the law and order system back on track,' the Union minister added. This is the second time in a week that Chirag Paswan has criticised the state government over rising crime. On June 12, he had posted, 'How many more murders will Biharis face now? It is beyond understanding what the responsibility of the Bihar Police is.' Gunmen kill criminal on parole inside Patna hospital On Thursday, five armed men entered Paras hospital, walked into a patient's room, shot him dead, and fled. The victim, Chandan Mishra, was a hardened criminal with multiple murder cases and had been out on parole on medical grounds. Police suspect the murder was the result of gang rivalry. Meanwhile, deputy chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha condemned the killing and assured strict action. 'Such an incident is unfortunate. It will be thoroughly investigated, and the criminal will not be spared. The chief minister of Bihar has said the criminal will be caught and strictly punished.' The incident has once again drawn attention to a spate of violent crimes in Bihar's capital, including the recent killings of businessman Gopal Khemka, Bhartiya Janata Party leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato. Tejashwi slams Bihar govt over hospital shooting Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, also hit out at the government over the brazen hospital killing. 'Government criminals stormed into the ICU and shot a patient admitted to the hospital. Is anyone anywhere safe in Bihar? Was this how it was before 2005?' he said.
