I played golf with Tiger Woods but he was a ghost behind the scenes – his romance with Vanessa Trump surprised me

TIGER WOODS was a 'ghost' behind the scenes who never gave any clues about his wild lifestyle, according to a golfer who played with him.
Two-time PGA Tour winner Brian Henninger also says he's surprised by Wood's blossoming romance with Vanessa Trump.

Henninger played with top stars including Woods, Phil Mickelson and Sir Nick Faldo.
The American says Woods would cut an isolated figure among golfers and was so focused he could be intimidating.
But Henninger, who also described Faldo as 'arrogant' and branded Jack Nicklaus a 'narcissist', said this attitude set him apart.
Henninger told SunSport: 'Tiger Woods is not a person you're going to go and hang out with.
'He's not eating with you in the lunchroom. He's pleasant though. He'd say 'Hi Brian'. He knows a little bit about everybody, he does his research.
'I'll never forget the first time I met him. We were at the Western Open, we're in this fitness trailer, they were stretching us or something.
'He goes 'hey, I saw your Trojans got beat by Stanford the other night'. I mean, I've never met him.
'So I think he's one of those prepared guys in any situation.

'Behind the scenes, he was a ghost to most of us. We didn't really know about his life off the course. We know what the media shared with us, but I didn't really know that lifestyle.
'He was a natural show off. He had so much popularity and it's incredible.

'I didn't get to travel and own mansions, private jets and have Michael Jordan as my best friend…even though I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that stuff.
'But he didn't show signs on the golf course of being affected by any of it.
'Scottie Scheffler is coming along doing similar things. I don't know all the matrix behind it, but they are very close in terms of how many times they've won at a certain age and all the accomplishments.
'They can just turn it on and off. I mean, they get to the golf course and they're like different human beings."
He added: 'Tiger could be intimidating to some extent. I played with him right at his peak in the early 2000s.
'It's so unique when you're with these people who are so different. They have skill sets beyond what you can kind of comprehend or define.'
Woods was rocked by scandal in his prime, divorcing Swedish model Elin Nordegren in 2010 after allegations of multiple affairs.

Then in 2017, Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving after he'd been found passed out in his car with prescription drugs and marijuana in his system.
Now Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr, son of sitting US President Donald Trump.
And Henninger says he's surprised by the romance but can see how it unfolded.
He said: 'I was surprised to see Tiger dating Vanessa Trump. Even though in today's world, nothing surprises me anymore.
'But he lives in Florida, so I'm sure he's interacting with Donald Trump, who owns a few golf courses down there and stuff.
'Nothing surprises me with Tiger. I just kind of wish I knew. I like the drama, share it with us!'
Henninger believes Scottie Scheffler is currently the best golfer in the world. He sees traits in the American he also saw among the greats he played with.
In June, Nicklaus candidly told Scheffler not to get carried away with his recent success.
11
He said: 'If he is thinking about being the best and starts believing he's the best, pretty soon he starts scratching his ears out here like this, and that's death. Once you start to get a big head and believe you're too good, then you will get beat.'
But Henninger could understand the comments.
He branded Scheffler and Nicklaus as 'narcissistic', but hailed the trait as something vital for their success.
Henninger added: 'Scheffler is different. I almost feel like he's playing for a different purpose, and he seems really balanced with his family, which is really important to him.
'He's made so much money in recent years yet he seems to be doing it for this focus on the process and the competition, not for the money, even though that's the byproduct of playing really well.
'They threw him in jail in the middle of a tournament last year, then he came out and shot 65, who does that?
'So he's got the resilience it takes to be number one in the world and takes responsibility for it.
'It takes a narcissistic person and Nicklaus is that person too, by the way, I've spent a little bit of time around him. These guys have big egos.'
11

Another golfer who had a big ego was Faldo, Henninger says, who now works as a commentator in golf.
Henninger says Faldo was arrogant and recalled a time he demanded changes to his parking space.
He said: 'Faldo is one of them, he's from over there (arrogant). He's intense, a lot of us are pretty uptight.
'To be honest with you, Greg Norman was super uptight, to the extent you don't really want to be around those people.
'He's one of the greatest players that ever lived. He's a big guy, he was very mechanical, so he had a really pretty swing. It was very methodical. But an example of Faldo's arrogance was when we were playing in the senior players' championship in Philadelphia five or six years ago.
'Because he's close to my last name, like F and H are close, he's parked right next to me and when I pull up early in the week, it says Sir Nick Faldo on his little sign by his car.
'It only took about 24 hours and it said, Sir Nick Faldo. That tells you the whole story."

MMA referee screams at doctors to help as former UFC star carried out of cage after sickening kick to testicles

A REFEREE screamed for help from a doctor after a former UFC star crumpled in agony from a kick to the testicles. Stricken Alexander Romanov had to be carried from the cage on a stretcher after just his second Professional Fighters League (PFL) match. 5 5 5 The Moldovan, aka King Kong, was once a top UFC heavyweight prospect. But the 34-year-old switched to a different Mixed Martial Art earlier this year. And he was closing in on a PFL heavyweight title shot when a sickening blow sent him reeling. Romanov was taking on Russian Valentin Moldavsky, 33, in Chicago. And his eye-watering fate came as early as the opening round. Romanov had been struggling to seriously trouble Moldavsky, despite landing a few of his renowned slam takedowns. And when the younger man got up, he put on enough pressure to leave King Kong tiring. Little more than 30 seconds were left in the first of the three five-minute rounds when the distressing moment arrived. The pair were grasping each other on the ropes when Romanov delivered a knee to his opponent. 5 Moldavsky returned the blow in kind - but accidentally went too low. Romanov instantly slumped to the floor, holding his groin - while his rival protested his innocence. Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford in another twist as UFC boss Dana White says he IS promoting super-fight The ref yelled for medical aid as Romanov was in obvious agony and fight fans looked on worried. Meanwhile, Moldavsky sunk to his knees, with his head down - apparently in rueful reflection The cage-side doctor dashed over to treat the stricken giant. And the doc soon confirmed the inevitable - that Romanov would be unable to continue. The 18st 13lbs wrestler was then taken away on a stretcher. It meant the bout - a PFL heavyweight tournament semi-final - was ruled a "no contest". Romanov had dazzled when winning his only other PFL fight in May, beating 40-year-old American Timothy May by submission. It left the East European well placed for a title shot - until a badly placed knee in his very next fight. 5

Disney World fan sparks fierce debate after making major complaint about the beloved theme park

Walt Disney World fans have become embroiled in a heated debate about the transportation at the beloved theme park. A new map breaking down the complimentary transportation offered throughout the massive resort has detailed all the ways that the 130 million annual riders can get from park to park. Guests at the Happiest Place on Earth can travel all the way from Magic Kingdom to Epcot on Disney's Monorail - a quick and easy train that goes back and forth between the parks as well as to some of the hotels. Or they can use the 36-boat transportation services in both parks as well as at Disney Springs. To get from Epcot to Disney's Hollywood Studios, people can hop on the Skyliner, which is a gondola lift system. However, the only mode of transportation that touches Animal Kingdom is the free Disney buses - and some fans are not happy about it. After the new map was released, one Disney fan took to Reddit to express their outrage over the lack of options to get to Animal Kingdom. And the post lead to a massive argument about the Disney bus system. 'I'm someone that prefers Skyliner or Monorail transportation so it's really unfortunate that the ONLY way to get to Animal Kingdom right now is by bus,' the user expressed. 'The yellow line [is] there for the Skyliner [and] could easily be extended all the way to Animal Kingdom if they wanted.' They suggested: 'Maybe even have a station at [the hotel] Coronado Springs and [the water park] Blizzard Beach.' 'Having no way to get to Animal Kingdom except driving or taking the bus is really inconvenient and it's weird that it's the only non-water park to only be accessible via bus,' they continued. 'I'm someone that I would visit Animal Kingdom way more if I could just hop over there on the Skyliner from Hollywood Studios. So why is there no Skyliner?' Many other people rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts, and discussed the possibility of Disney adding more transportation to the park. 'I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually get some sort of transit line out to Animal Kingdom, but it's gonna take a lot of money and desire to make it happen,' one person wrote. Another added: 'Disney likes to avoid guests seeing the backstage areas. They do a really good job at Epcot to minimize the amount you can see from the Monorail and it is only a few seconds right at the end where you can see backstage.' 'I just went on Google Earth and measured [a] straight line from the [Hollywood] Studios gate to Animal Kingdom gate [which] is a little under two miles,' shared someone else. 'But that wouldn't even be feasible because said straight line is right through the middle of the studios.' Others said they had no problem with the bus and speculated the lack of Monorail or Skyliner transportation was due to the animal enclosures. 'It's literally not that hard. You get on a bus and sit down,' a person wrote. 'You do realize it's not as close as this map makes it look right?' another said. 'Not to mention it would have to be routed to avoid all animal areas,' someone else observed. 'Can you imagine how much trash would be dropped in the animal enclosures?' a different user shared. 'A free bus that runs all day is pretty convenient. I would suspect that the ANIMALS play a big factor into the lack of overhead rails and lifts,' a different comment read. 'We're so spoiled at Disney, honestly. One of the best bus systems in the world and we (including myself sometimes) complain about it,' another user admitted. 'Yeah, 15 to 20 minutes from the Contemporary to Animal Kingdom on a mostly empty bus with the AC set to like 60F didn't exactly seem like a burden during our visit earlier this month. [The] bus is good. Take [the] bus,' a person urged. 'Maybe it's just me but the bus ride to Animal Kingdom is totally reasonable,' someone else penned.

Sir Andy Murray-backed company to rip up tennis courts for padel

A company backed by Sir Andy Murray is to rip up tennis courts on the site of the 'Wimbledon of the south' and replace them with padel courts. BBC commentators Andrew Castle and Annabel Croft are also investors and ambassadors in Game4Padel, which is behind a conversion that has sparked the second tennis-versus-padel row in less than a week. The plans to remove Withdean Sports Complex's two indoor tennis courts were announced on Friday by Brighton & Hove City Council, three days after it emerged courts built for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in London faced a similar fate. News of G4P's involvement in the latest venture also came two days after Murray was promoting a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Government initiative that has led to more than 3,000 dilapidated park tennis courts being brought back to life in three years. Withdean Sports Complex is on the site of Withdean Stadium, which the LTA developed as a tennis venue in 1936, the year Fred Perry won Britain's last Wimbledon men's singles title prior to Murray ending what was a 77-year drought in 2013. The stadium became known as the 'Wimbledon of the south' before being converted into an athletics arena in 1955. Said to be 'the only' location in Brighton with indoor tennis courts, the sports complex underwent a £2.7 million facelift the year Murray first won Wimbledon. Murray invested in G4P in 2019, since when the company's value has reportedly surged to £27 million. Castle and Croft are also among the high-profile backers, along with current and former Premier League footballers Virgil van Dijk, Jamie Vardy, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tammy Abraham and Callum Wilson. Telegraph Sport revealed on Tuesday that a row had broken out over plans to rip up all four indoor tennis courts at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre and replace them with padel courts. The move was branded an 'absolute betrayal' of the London 2012 legacy and that of Murray's Wimbledon success and it was publicly denounced by the LTA. A petition was also launched which had attracted more than 1,250 signatures by 2pm on Saturday. Among those to sign it was Olympic Park resident Sinjon Vedi, 48, who told Telegraph Sport he was 'shocked' a company Murray had invested in was behind the Brighton scheme, calling it a 'betrayal of his Wimbledon, Olympic and tennis legacy'. A similar petition was created on Friday in a bid to save the Withdean courts, which had attracted more than 400 signatures by the same time on Saturday. Begun by Robin Coleman it read: 'If this plan goes ahead, it will eliminate the ONLY indoor tennis facilities in Brighton & Hove, significantly impacting our community. 'Withdean's indoor courts are essential for year-round tennis, especially during winter and bad weather. Moving lessons outdoors will drastically reduce availability for everyone, as outdoor courts are already shared with other sports like netball. 'Tennis has a rich 150-year history in the UK. Padel, while growing, is a relatively new sport and may prove to be a passing trend. Converting permanent, well-utilised facilities without long-term evidence of padel's sustained demand is a risky move that could lead to poor returns for our council and community. There are already plans to build new padel courts in the car park, which would meet demand without sacrificing our valuable indoor tennis courts. 'We urge the Brighton & Hove City Council to immediately pause these plans and initiate a full and transparent public consultation process. Our community deserves to have its voice heard on the future of Withdean Sports Complex and its cherished indoor tennis courts. Sign this petition to tell Brighton & Hove City Council to save Withdean's indoor tennis courts and consult with the community!' Upon announcing the move on Friday, the council said in a statement that its decision had been made in partnership with venue operator Freedom Leisure, that the conversion work would be funded by G4P, and that it would begin in August with the aim of being completed the following month. It said an extra tennis court was currently being added to three existing outdoor courts. It added: 'We're keen to encourage more residents to be active on a regular basis and the hope is that by adding more padel courts, even more people will be able to enjoy the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of playing regular sport.' Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet member for Sports, Recreation and Libraries, said: 'We know there will be people who are disappointed we are having to reduce the number of tennis courts at Withdean, but unfortunately the indoor courts there are only in use for around a third of the time they're available, and with such high demand for padel courts, we have to take fair and rational decisions on the best use of our facilities. 'We're continuing to invest in our leisure facilities and we're determined to improve the accessibility, availability and variety of sports on offer. These new padel courts will help us do just that.' Murray, Castle and Croft, have all been approached for comment. In a statement, the LTA said: 'We want to preserve well used indoor tennis courts wherever we can whilst growing opportunities for padel. We were only made aware of this decision on Friday and now want to engage further with the Council and Freedom Leisure to understand their rationale.' The chief executive of G4P, Michael Gradon, was unwilling or unable to say whether any of them had backed the scheme or had been consulted over it. He added: 'It's not for me to comment on Brighton council's decision about Withdean. We were the padel provider there anyway and, obviously, we accept their judgment that the occupancy of the indoor tennis was very disappointing and it'll bring far more people into a healthy sport.' He also said G4P was operating 'six brand new, state-of-the-art tennis courts on Hove beachfront'.
