City of Florence takes time to remember fallen soldiers at annual Memorial Day ceremony
Mary Day, an Army veteran, told News 19 what the true meaning of Memorial Day is.

'It's the first thing on the agenda. Every Memorial Day is to be present and remember those that aren't here anymore,' Day said.
A day to remember the men and women who fought for our freedom, who have passed away.
University of North Alabama, Military and Veterans Affairs Coordinator Jimmy Roberts, said that Memorial Day isn't just about remembering those who served and lost their life – it is also about the people they left behind.
'Today means those soldiers who have packed up belongings of fellow soldiers they've served with, and they know that sting of losing someone and knowing of the loved one back home is gonna unpack all of those things,' Roberts said.

People reminisced on beautiful memories of loved ones who served our country.
'Today is about that spot in the bed where that husband or wife will never return, today is about that kid that grows up without a mother or a father, today is about those people who paid that sacrifice and now those families are missing someone in their lives and they know that price and cost that they paid to be there,' Roberts said.
Veterans at the ceremony said the day allows them to take a pause and remember those they fought beside and lost.
'It's an emotional day for so many. Today is for me to be with my fellow veterans, and for me to honor and remember everyone that's not here, cause I've lost so many friends, and a lot of us have,' Day said.
A wreath-laying ceremony also took place, as well as taps being performed.

Five new bus stations are open in Downtown Pittsburgh starting Sunday as Pittsburgh Regional Transit rolls out a big upgrade as part of its University Line Project. PRT says the goal of the project and the new stops is to make trips between Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland faster and more reliable. "I go to Oakland quite often, and I catch a lot of buses to go to Oakland; the new way is working good," said Ray Allen. Real-time arrival screens and safety features are set to roll out in the coming weeks, in addition to the new stations. "It's nice because you can just look there and it tells you when it's scheduled, you don't have to get on your phone, it's just right there," Allen said. Construction is complete for the first phase of the project. A second phase will include 18 additional stations along with bike and pedestrian upgrades and will continue through 2027. "That would actually be cool," Harden said. "I would like to see that process, and I know things won't happen overnight, but they will if we grow towards it." Once finished, PRT's University Line is expected to serve over 30,000 riders per day with faster, safer, and more dependable transit.

3 bodies recovered from small plane crash in California: Reports
Three bodies have been recovered following a July 26 small plane crash in Pacific Grove, California, according to local reports. Television stations KION and KSBW reported that the U.S. Coast Guard recovered the bodies July 27. USA TODAY has reached out to the USCG Pacific Area and the Monterey County Sherriff's Office for confirmation. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a preliminary statement to USA TODAY that three people were on the Beechcraft BE55 it alerted as missing off the coast of the town July 26. Flight tracking data published by FlightAware shows flight N8796R leaving from San Carlos Airport at 10:11 p.m. PT heading toward the Monterey Regional Airport. The tracker indicates that the plane turned around over the seaside town and was last seen around 10:37 p.m. PT. Cal Fire told KSBW that witnesses reported hearing an aircraft engine revving, followed by a splash in the ocean. The NTSB will lead the investigation, the FAA said in its statement.
