Disabled Scot quit school after making £10k a month managing Fortnite players from bedroom
A disabled young Scot quit school after raking in £10,000 a month managing some of the world's biggest online gamers from his bedroom.
Ross McLaren was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy which left him wheelchair bound.
The passionate gamer, who dreamed of becoming a pro- Fortnite player, built a six-figure business aged 17 while living at his Midlothian home with parents Lesley and Craig.
Now aged 22, Ross manages a team of ten and oversees the daily operations of some of the biggest names in online gaming including megastar Fortnite players Clix and Sentinel.
Ross told the Record: "I really wanted to be a pro-Fortnite player but I realised I wasn't good enough.
"I got into video editing for professional Fornite players and started working with small gaming streamers for free when I was in school.
"By summer 2021 I was making £10,000 per month and I told my parents I didn't want to sit my Advanced Highers.
"They had their doubts and asked me to go back to school - but I quit after one day."
Ross explained how his disability enabled him to get into the gaming world and hone his craft.
He said: "Having muscular dystrophy was somewhat of an advantage for me as it meant I spent a lot more time on a computer when I was younger as I couldn't go out and play sports like other kids."
The then-schoolboy began offering his video editing services to small streamers for fun. Just as he was about to give up, Ross struck gold.
"I was working with a streamer called Bugha who only had about 20,000 subscribers," he said.
" Bugha played in the Fortnite World Cup in 2018 and won $3million. Overnight, his subscriber count hit one million.'
Bugha – now with 4.7million YouTube subscribers – stuck with Ross, and business 'spiralled from there'.
Ross then caught the eye of another famous Fornite player called Clix who had 3.5 million YouTube subscribers.
Following pressure from his parents, Ross went back to George Heriot's School for one day before quitting - and landed one of the biggest opportunities of his career.
He was asked to run a gaming channel fronted by UK YouTube icon KSI who boasts more than 22 million subscribers.
He now works as a freelancer, and manages content for professionals like Clix and top E-Sports organisation Sentinels, based in Los Angeles.
Top Fortnite streamers like Clix earn around £100,000 per month and Ross collects a lucrative commision for producing content.
The young entrepreneur now has his sights on relocating to the US to be closer to his star clients.
He added: "It's crazy how things have turned out.
"My job didn't exist a few years ago - now business is thriving.
"I hope to move to Dallas. With Fortnite, the servers are based there and many of the players are.
"I'm planning on taking the leap to move to be closer to my clients."

Liverpool transfer news: Fresh Luis Diaz twist as Alexander Isak team-mates make feelings known
Liverpool are being heavily linked with Alexander Isak as the Newcastle star considers his future whilst Luis Diaz's next move is unclear with Bayern Munich ramping up their efforts to sign him Liverpool's summer has seen them spend more than £200million but they're being linked with a second British-record transfer move in a matter of weeks with Alexander Isak potentially on the move. The Newcastle frontman has expressed a desire to explore his options despite having three years to run on his deal at St James' Park. The Magpies have made it clear they do not want to sell their leading light - and it would take a mammoth fee to change their mind. Arne Slot has just seen Hugo Ekitike join from Frankfurt to lead their line, but the arrival of Isak could give the Dutchman even more options in the final third. Liverpool still have room within PSR to pursue a move for Isak, if he did ultimately decide to push for the exit door. But it remains to be seen what ripple affects may occur with some of their other frontmen. Here's the latest from Anfield. Bayern ramp up Diaz efforts Bayern Munich are not giving up in their pursuit of Liverpool star Luis Diaz and have tabled a second bid for the Colombian. The Bundesliga club have made Diaz their top target this summer but saw a bid of £58m rejected by the Reds, who would rather not sell the player. Talks are being spearheaded by Bayern chiefs Jan-Christian Dreesen and Max Eberl, who are keen to upgrade Vincent Kompany's squad to help the team push for even more honours next season. They have put a four-year deal on the table and Diaz is keen to make the move to Munich and has told Liverpool he wants to explore a move away with his contract at Anfield entering its final two years and no progress yet being made on any possible extension. Newcastle stars speak out on Isak Newcastle stars Dan Burn and Bruno Guimaraes have spoken out on the saga surrounding Isak, admitting the striker is going through "rough things" after he told the club he wants to consider leaving this summer. Isak is one of the most coveted players in the transfer window after a sensational season for the Magpies - where he scored against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Club captain Guimaraes insisted he hoped the player would return for the club ahead of the new Premier League season. Burn said: "Listen, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. But I think we can just control what we can control. That's a question for Alex to answer. He's obviously a big player for us, but we do have a lot of quality in the squad as well. Bringing Anthony (Elanga) in as well, which I think was a great signing. Alex hasn't trained with a thigh issue that's been ongoing since he's been back that first few days." Ekitike hails Slot's role Ekitike has revealed how a "very good discussion" with Slot convinced him to move to Anfield after a huge amount of interest in his signature this summer. Newcastle were on of the interested clubs and had a bid rejected by Frankfurt, with Liverpool then swooping in shortly after. He has now linked up with the rest of his team-mates on their pre-season tour of Asia and explained how Slot's persuasive tactics helped seal the move as he said: "We had a very good first discussion together. Obviously the coach is very human so we could talk not only about football [but] about everything. "I find him very interesting and I was very pleased to see what I can do with him because I think he is a really nice guy and I can still improve and progress with him. So, yeah, he is a really good coach and good person first, so that's why he made me want to come here."

Oasis superfan gets Murrayfield ticket tattoo ahead of Edinburgh dates
'Hey, if they break up before then, it'll be a hilarious story to tell." An Oasis superfan is feeling supersonic after tattooing her Murrayfield ticket on her arm ahead of the band's upcoming Edinburgh shows. Shannon Rattray, 29, was born at the height of Oasis mania in 1995 and has longed to see the Britpop legends her entire life. Her parents, Sharon, 51, and Donald, 59, also loved the band, but never got to experience the Gallagher brothers in concert because they were too busy bringing up Shannon and her siblings. When Oasis broke up in 2009, the family, from Midlothian, thought they'd would never get the chance to see them live. But when the group announced their reunion tour, Shannon managed to bag four tickets for August 12 in the capital. She will go to the gig with her mum and dad and boyfriend, Kai, also 29. The mum -of-two told the Record: 'I have waited for this moment for nearly 30 years so I wanted something to mark it that will last forever. I might be slightly mad for doing it, but this concert means the absolute world to me. "I was brought up listening to Oasis and my mum and dad never got round to seeing them because they were raising me and my siblings. "When we saw the announcement that they were coming back, I sat in the queue for hours for tickets. "When I got them, I was crying and jumping about with excitement. It was such a special moment being able to call my mum and tell her that her dream of seeing Oasis live was coming true! "I cried down the phone to her. 'As a family have spoken about how we've wanted Oasis to get back together so many times and I have spent countless occasions belting out their songs with my parents. 'The fact that we never thought this would happen again makes it even more special." Shannon decided to cement her special memory in ink on July 23. She continued: "It was by pure chance that the tattoo artist that I had contacted had space before the gig, so I thought know you what I am just going to go for it. "Some might say I am absolutely ridiculous for getting it done, especially given their track record of falling out, but hey, if they break up before the gig it will be a hilarious story to tell."
