5 wildfires around the valley started Thursday due to lightning

Yahoo2 days ago
MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – Fire crews had an eventful Thursday as they responded to five different wildfires caused by lightning, according to the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit (UCRIFM).
One of the blazes, Bunkwater, was west of De Beque and contained the same day it started.
UCRIFM stated that although these wildfires were caused by the weather, community members can reduce human-caused fires. The interagency noted it is important to follow fire restrictions.
Mesa County is currently under a Stage 1 fire restriction, which includes bans on:
Personal use of fireworks.
Campfires outside of selected fire pits or rings.
Agricultural open burning without a sheriff's issued burn permit.
Use of explosive targets.
Smoking outside near combustible materials.
Operating any internal combustion engine like a chainsaw. It must have a spark-arresting device properly installed, maintained and in working order.
Welding or operating Acetylene or other torches with an open flame except in cleared areas of at least 10 feet in diameter. Users must have a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher.
UCRIFM stated that following these guidelines allows crews to focus on lightning-caused fires, which can spread quickly. For example, the lightning-caused Turner Gulch Fire near Gateway, which started July 10, has grown to over 21,000 acres as of Friday.
'Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe and ensures that our firefighters can respond effectively when it matters most. Thank you for doing your part to protect our land and communities,' UCRIFM said.

Pleasant conditions are expected again today for the Pittsburgh area

Comfortable weather will be sticking around today for the Pittsburgh area with high temperatures hitting the mid to low 80s. Any Alert Days Ahead? No, but we continue to keep an eye on air quality due to Canadian smoke. Aware: Today will be a seasonally average day. Nothing wrong with that. Morning lows will be in the mid to low 60s, and rain chances will remain isolated with nearly everyone dry. This pattern isn't going anywhere for the work week. We should see highs ticking up slowly though. I have today's high and Wednesday's high both hitting 84° in Pittsburgh. I have highs on Thursday hitting 85°. Weekend highs will be in the upper 80s with us possibly hitting 90 degrees on Sunday & Monday. Your comfort level while outside will continue to be on the high side through at least Thursday. Humidity levels start to go up on Friday in a way that you'll begin to notice. It'll be hot and humid on Sunday. Yesterday I had a rain chance on Sunday. It was just isolated, but I have taken that away for the time being. It may come back. At this point I have an isolated rain chance for today. You'll likely be dry. I have another rain chance in the isolated range on Friday as we see humidity returning. Monday's rain chance is also in the isolated range with more scattered to widespread rain in the forecast for next Tuesday and Wednesday. When it comes to air quality, Canadian smoke will be thickest on the eastern side of the state. They're under an air quality alert due to it. All of New York is also under air quality alerts due to Canadian smoke. Right now model data suggests that we may be under an air quality alert on Wednesday due to a thick round of smoke making its way through our area. Smoke moves north out of Twin Cities Tuesday ahead of incoming heat, humidity

Though the hazy skies will continue to clear in the Twin Cities on Tuesday, northeastern Minnesota is still dealing with air quality concerns. An air quality alert is in effect for the region through noon on Wednesday due to Canadian wildfire smoke. The rest of the state will be mainly dry on Tuesday, with highs in the metro topping out in the lower 80s. Wednesday begins a trend toward hotter and more humid weather, with highs pushing into the upper 80s and low 90s by Thursday and Friday. Heat indices will rise into the 90s late in the week, and heat advisories are possible. The best chance for widespread storms arrives Friday into Saturday as a front moves through, though timing may limit storm strength.

Cloudy Skies Return with a Slight Increase in Humidity

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today won't be as bright of a day with more clouds expected overhead. Expect cloudy skies through the day with very few, if any, breaks. Due to cloud cover, you won't be able to see wildfire smoke but it remains overhead today. Air quality is expected to fall just one level to "moderate" but air quality monitors say they'll be watching through the day to see if it falls into the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category. Temperatures will be similar to Monday with highs peaking in the low to mid 80s. It'll be a little warmer within and just around Baltimore City. Cooler air returns on Wednesday with temperatures warming to around 80° under more cloud cover. We do have a slight rain chance on Wednesday through the end of the work week but it's not very impressive. The next few days will be more dry than not. Humidity may be a bit more noticeable this week in comparison to days past. Some sunshine returns just in time for the Ravens' first preseason game on Thursday. We're looking at another seasonably cool day Thursday and Friday with highs in the low 80s.
