As plans for the $1 billion Lenovo Center development advance in west Raleigh, state and city officials are working to ensure the area is prepared for heavier traffic.
This month the Raleigh City Council approved a rezoning request for the 80 acres surrounding the arena to allow for new hotels, restaurants, apartment buildings, office space and parking decks. The Carolina Hurricanes organization, led by owner Tom Dundon, has a bold vision to transform the area into a premier sports and entertainment destination.
To support the growth, significant road work is underway and being planned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation — much of it in the pipeline long before the arena development plans took shape.

Two of the biggest projects are in their final months. NCDOT is lowering the grade of Blue Ridge Road at Hillsborough Street, making it an underpass to avoid the railroad. And it's in the final stages of upgrading the oldest section of Interstate 440 nearby. Both of those projects should be complete by the end of this year or in early 2026, said Becca Gallas, division engineer with NCDOT.

In the future, NCDOT is planning improvements along Wade Avenue, likely additional lanes to enhance capacity.
NCDOT is working with the developers of the entertainment district on a traffic impact analysis that can further 'inform what congestion might look like in that area and how do we appropriately plan for it,' Gallas said.
Bradley Kimbrell, strategy and development administrator for transportation for the City of Raleigh, said the city's role is in ensuring safe public access. That likely means bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the area of the planned development. Kimbrell said there's a larger vision in play and that the city will work to make sure it is respected in the process, whether it's about the bike corridor running along the site plan or nearby greenways.
'It is an open dialogue,' Kimbrell said.
That dialogue has already resulted in some changes. The rezoning application for the site initially came before council April 2 but concerns over pedestrian safety had Dundon's real estate venture, Pacific Elm Properties of Dallas, revising its plans, reserving space for bike racks and bike shares. The rezoning was approved April 15. Gale Force Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of the Carolina Hurricanes, plans to start work on the project's first phase late this year.

Not for distribution to U.S. News wire services or dissemination in the U.S. VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 01, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Keg Royalties Income Fund (the 'Fund') (TSX: is pleased to announce that, at its special meeting ('Meeting') of the unitholders ('Unitholders') and holders of securities exchangeable into units (the 'Exchangeable Unitholders') of the Fund (the 'Units') held earlier today, Unitholders and Exchangeable Unitholders voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed acquisition by 1543965 B.C. Ltd. (the 'Purchaser'), a subsidiary of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (the 'Parent') of all of the issued and outstanding units of the Fund not otherwise owned by it and its affiliates (collectively, 'Fairfax') for a price of $18.60 per Unit (the 'Consideration'), payable in cash by way of a statutory plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (British Columbia) in accordance with the arrangement agreement dated June 16, 2025 among the Fund, the Purchaser and the Parent (the 'Arrangement Agreement', and such acquisition and the other transactions contemplated in the Arrangement Agreement, the 'Transaction'). The Arrangement Agreement provides that in addition to the Consideration, Unitholders will be entitled to receive a prorated monthly distribution for the month in which the closing occurs, as well as a special cash distribution based on the Fund's historical practice of paying annual special distributions, with such special cash distribution being set at $0.055 per Unit for the 2025 fiscal year, prorated for the portion of the fiscal year completed as of the closing of the Transaction. The Transaction required the approval of (a) more than two thirds of the votes cast by Unitholders (including for this purpose Exchangeable Unitholders) present in person or represented by proxy at the Meeting, and (b) a simple majority of the votes cast by Unitholders present in person or represented by proxy at the Meeting, excluding the votes of Fairfax and any other Unitholders whose votes were required to be excluded for the purposes of 'minority approval' under Multilateral Instrument 61-101 – Protection of Minority Security Holders in Special Transactions ('MI 61-101'). Of the votes cast at the Meeting with respect to the Transaction, 99.42% were voted in favour of the Transaction. In addition, of the votes cast at the Meeting with respect to the Transaction, excluding those votes required to be excluded pursuant to MI 61-101, 98.79% were voted in favour of the Transaction. A report of voting results for the Meeting will be available on the SEDAR+ profile of the Fund at . The Transaction is structured as a statutory plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (British Columbia) . The Fund and Fairfax intend to seek a final order from the Supreme Court of British Columbia to approve the plan of arrangement on August 7, 2025 (the 'Final Order'). Bessent says US has 'makings of a deal' with China
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Friday that he believed that Washington has the makings of a deal with China and that he was "optimistic" about the path forward. "This week's negotiations in Stockholm have advanced our talks with China, and I believe that we have the makings of a deal that will benefit both of our great nations," Bessent said in a post on X that was subsequently deleted. "I am optimistic about the path forward," he added. A Treasury Department spokesperson said the post was being reposted because the images attached to it had not uploaded correctly. The spokesperson also noted that the language in the post was in line with what Bessent had said in various media interviews this week. In an interview with CNBC on Thursday, Bessent said the United States believes it has the makings of a trade deal with China, but it is "not 100% done."
