AP JAC chief accuses govt of betraying employees

Vizianagaram: AP JAC Amaravati state president Bopparaju Venkateswarlu accused the coalition government of betraying government employees by failing to fulfill promises made during election campaigns.
Addressing a press conference here during his district-wide tour, Venkateswarlu pointed to the growing discontent and insecurity among government employees across Andhra Pradesh due to the government's failure to deliver on pre-election commitments.
He was in the district to attend a meeting to form the new AP JAC Amaravati committee for the united Vizianagaram district. The AP JAC is conducting statewide visits to form new committees and collect feedback from employees.
'We are gathering suggestions and grievances to pursue appropriate redressal measures,' Venkateswarlu said. Despite the coalition government being in power for over a year, it has not addressed key employee concerns, including pending arrears, Interim Relief (IR), Dearness Allowance (DA), and the cancellation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Venkateswarlu pointed out that TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu had promised a better Pay Revision Commission (PRC) and other benefits before the elections. 'Employees are now reminding us of those promises through video recordings,' he remarked.
Venkateswarlu criticised the government for failing to appoint a PRC commissioner even after a year. 'Four DA instalments remain pending, and over Rs 25,000 crore is due to employees,' he stated, urging the government to ensure transparency by reflecting pending amounts in payslips or through official communication.
He reiterated the demand for restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for employees recruited before December 31, 2004. Highlighting the plight of contract and outsourcing staff, he noted that of approximately 10,000 contract employees, only 3,000 were regularised previously, and the rest deserve permanent status.
He also called for addressing the severe financial struggles faced by outsourced employees. Venkateswarlu urged the government to initiate immediate dialogue with employee unions and form a cabinet sub-committee to resolve these issues.
He referenced the 2022 'Chalo Vijayawada' protest, which gained national attention, warning that unresolved grievances could lead to similar unrest. Revenue Services Association president T Govinda and others attended the event.

7th Pay Commission DA update: Good news for employees as govt likely to announce DA hike on THIS date; check details

Representational Image 7th Pay Commission DA update: In a significant update for the millions of central government employees and pensioners who are awaiting a DA hike under the 7th Pay Commission, reports suggest that the Union government could announce the same as early as this month. When will DA hike be announced? According to media reports, citing sources, the Narendra Modi government is likely to announce the DA hike by August 15, but the benefits will be retrospectively implemented from the month of July. Over 5o lakh central government employees and 62 lakh pensioners are eagerly awaiting the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission as well as Dearness Allowance (DA) hike under the current 7th Pay Commission, which will cease to be in force on December 31, 2025. How much DA hike can employees expect? The DA hike will depend on the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW), which increased by by 0.5 points to 144 in May 2025. The index has increased for three consecutive months, from 143 in March, 143.5 in April and 144 in May. Considering this trend, its likely that dearness allowance could increase from 3-4 percent from July. The final DA hike will be determined by June 2025 AICPI-IW data, which will be released in August. In case of a 3 percent increase, the DA will be hiked to 58%, from the current 55%, while a 4 percent hike would mean a 59% DA for central government employees. DA is reviewed twice a year, and adjusted according to inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). When will 8th Pay Commission be implemented? Going by the implementation of previous pay commissions, it usually takes about 18 to 24 months for the government to implement the recommendations. Thus, its unlikely that 8th Pay Commission would be implemented before mid-2027. Currently, 7th Pay Commission recommendations are in force, and will remain so till December 2025. A new pay commission is constituted every 10 years which tenders suggestions for revision of salary and pension of central government employees and pensioners in wake of the prevailing economic scenario in the country. The 8th Pay Commission was announced by the Union government in January this year.

DA case: Majithia's judicial custody extended till August 14

A local court on Saturday extended till August 14 the judicial custody of former cabinet minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. Majithia was produced before the court via video conferencing from Nabha jail, where he is currently lodged. He was sent to judicial custody on July 6 and his remand was later extended on July 18. His counsel Arshdeep Kler informed that Majithia's regular bail application is scheduled to be heard on August 4. Furthermore, an application seeking a change of his jail barrack has been listed for August 6. It is pertinent to mention that the local court had reserved its order on Majithia's bail application on Friday. The Vigilance Bureau had arrested the SAD leader from Amritsar on June 25. He was sent to judicial custody on July 6 and his remand was later extended on July 18. According to the FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, its preliminary investigation has revealed that more than ₹540 crore worth of 'drug money' was laundered in several ways and Majithia had allegedly facilitated it. The Vigilance Bureau's FIR against Majithia stemmed from an investigation being carried out by a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team into a 2021 drug case. In 2021, Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, on the basis of a 2018 report of the anti-drug special task force. Majithia had spent more than five months in Patiala jail and walked out of prison in August 2022 after the Punjab and Haryana high court granted him bail.
