Sydney rookie Porter co-leads in just second LPGA event
The 22-year-old Sydney-born, Queensland-raised prospect, who didn't make the cut in her first event at the Founders Cup last month, coped superbly with the windy conditions to shoot a four-under par 68 and join Japan's Nasa Hataoka atop the leaderboard on Friday.
After six-time Japanese tour winner Hataoka shot a six-under 66 -- the best round of the day -- she and Porter were both on a seven-under total of 137 after two rounds, just a shot clear of the field.

Japan's Rio Takeda was their nearest challenger after a 69, while Mexican Gabbie Lopez (70) and American Auston Kim (71) were two back.
It was a terrific start for Porter, who had even considered pulling out of the event before Thursday's first round as she was suffering with a flu bug.
But she followed up her opening round of 69 with an even better effort, featuring five birdies and a solitary dropped shot.
"Yeah, I'm feeling okay. Being a little sick has kind of helped me a little bit, just slowed me down a little," she explained afterwards.
"I always say I get pretty quick if I'm stressed or anything, so it's kind of forced me to slow down."

Leading at halfway didn't exactly faze Porter, though.
"It's great. I'm just having fun out here, really. It's always the goal to be in contention, so I'm not too surprised," she said.
"We work for this, and it's nice to see some hard work paying off. But there's a lot of golf to play..."
Porter even outshone her illustrious compatriot, two-time major winner Minjee Lee, who was still well-placed at two under, tied for 15th place, after a 72, while another in-form Australian was Hira Naveed, who was joint-eighth on three under following a 70.
Jeeno Thitikul, the LPGA's No.2-ranked player, went round in 73 to sit five off the lead.

Can Amari Williams make an immediate impact for the Boston Celtics?
The Boston Celtics selected Amari Williams with the 46th pick in the 2025 NBA draft. The Kentucky Wildcats product is viewed as a high-level passer who could develop into a playmaking hub on the perimeter. He's also a valuable rebounder and screener, while having the mobility to pressure the rim off the bounce, the catch, or when crashing the glass. Currently, Williams is the only member of Boston's 2025 draft class to remain unsigned by the franchise. Hugo Gonzalez has already put pen to paper, and Max Shulga's addition on a two-way contract was finalized on Wednesday, July 30, per Noa Dalzell of Celtics Blog. Nevertheless, it remains likely that Williams begins his NBA tenure with the Celtics. If you're still unsure what type of player the Nottingham-born talent is, Marc D'Amico recently spoke with Kentucky's head coach, Mark Pope, to get the inside scoop. Pope spoke glowingly of his former big man, praising his "modern-day center" skill set and pinpointing ways he can make an immediate impact. Broncos 91-man roster going into training camp, sorted by position
Welcome back, Denver Broncos football! Broncos rookies reported last week and veterans are set to report this week ahead of the start of training camp on Friday, July 25. Next month, the team will play three preseason games. Denver made two changes to the 90*-man offseason roster in recent weeks, swapping out safety Tanner McCalister for UFL cornerback Mario Goodrich. *Fans should note that the Broncos have an extra 91st spot on the roster because Australian-born punter Jeremy Crawshaw gets an offseason roster exemption as part of the NFL's international player pathway program. Will LIV Golf attract 15K fans for team championship in Detroit? Organizers hope so
Three weeks before LIV Golf makes its Michigan debut, Cam Smith already knows what to expect. 'I've played enough in the States, I guess, to know that I guess the further north you go, the rowdier the fans get, I think, is about right,' said Smith, the Australian captain of the Ripper GC team. 'So, expecting a pretty rowdy week, you know, with the concerts and everything. Hopefully, we get some big crowds and it should be a fun week.' During a virtual news conference Wednesday, July 30, Smith was joined by Louis Oosthuizen, the South African captain of Stinger GC, to preview the season-ending LIV Golf Team Championship Michigan, which will be played Aug. 22-24 at The Cardinal at St. John's in Plymouth. Twelve four-player teams will kick off the action the first day. Each match will consist of two singles matches and one alternate-shot foursome match, with three total points up for grabs. The tournament will be run in a bracket-style format with quarterfinals scheduled the first day, semifinals the second day and the final on the third day. The Ryder Cup-style event is yet another difference between the upstart LIV Golf tour, now in its fourth season, and the established PGA Tour. LIV promotes itself as a livelier and more relaxed experience with players allowed to wear shorts and music playing around the course during each round. The deep pockets of Saudi Arabia's Investment Fund, which primarily bankrolls the tour, has spent considerable money to lure former PGA Tour stars and major winners like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson. Those five players alone reportedly received contracts that totaled nearly $1 billion. The star power plus the carnival-like atmosphere that will feature live performances by "Imagine Dragons" after Saturday's round and by house group "Swedish House Mafia" on Sunday could help attract the 10,000-15,000 fans organizers are expecting. 'It feels like you had a festival,' Oosthuizen said of LIV events. 'It feels like … there's a concert. Some have more than one concert and music. You'll see a lot of younger people. They're enjoying (the tournament) outside of golf, not just the golf. 'And, you know, that's the biggest thing to attract people that (don't) really know anything, a lot, about golf, and getting them to see the top players play the game, and then also enjoy family time with the fan zone and everything else we do outside of just golf. So it is different. It's a different experience.' Contact Carlos Monarrez at cmonarrez@ and follow him on X @cmonarrez.
